- Bob Martin as Man in Chair in the opening of the 2006 Broadway musical "The Drowsy Chaperone." THE LIGHTS DON'T COME UP UNTIL 1:31; "Drowsy Chaperone" began with Man in Chair speaking to us in darkness.
So I have a story for this. Back in 2007, this was the very first show I ever saw on Broadway. At the time I was disappointed that Phantom of the Opera wasn't my first, so I didn't really know what to expect of seeing this with my drama class. As soon as Bob Martian said his first line, I somehow thought that I was gonna see the best show ever and I was right. The Drowsy Chaperone is an underrated classic and I wish I could see this show with this cast again cause it was such a magical night for me. Hell I hope I too will play the man in the chair someday.
I'm pleased to say that I have THAT album that he's holding. The one that says "drowsy chaperone". It was signed by the original cast after the production.. It is in my house as of this date. I can believe I see it on screen.
I would sell my firstborn child to have that
I’m playing Man In Chair this Fall. I saw it when it was on Broadway and fell in love. I played George 11 years ago. So many great parts in this show.
I love Bob Martin. Thanks so much!
Such pure joy!
Thank you as always Spiderwoman!!!
Always great to hear from you---glad you liked.
As someone who has owned and played vinyl all my life, the way he "cleans" the LP sets my teeth on edge.
Joyous. Happy memories of his run in London. Thank you.
He should have won the Tony. Hopefully the sequel will remedy that.
Does anyone know where I can find the full bootleg to this performance PLEASE.
So good!
Bob Martin
He is back with Hey look me over, isn't he?
Yes indeed---that inspired this posting.
as wonderful as this is, i can't get over how the teabag steeps for 10 seconds and the milk pours for 5 seconds. This is why the British don't take us seriously. ;)
Hey, fun fact. TDC opened in Broadway four days after Elton John's "Lestat" flopped. FOUR! DAYS! Last stake in that heart, I tell you wut.
And I happened to see it the day Lestat closed. The response to that Elton John line was TOTALLY electric.
@@JoshFreilich oh, man. Poor Stat.
Do you have an entire recording of this?
i think so, but she or he will never will share it :(
Isn’t this a press reel though?
I have a callback for this role in 2 days
Good luck!
