@@bana-nice Death is the loss of someone's active presence in the world. In the author's terms, it means their character arc is cut short and they can no longer interact with other characters. To many people, it's difficult and one may wish to avoid it, to think "They never died," but if you ignore their death, ignore the fact they've passed, you also ignore their presence in life. To deny their passing is to deny their existence.
Having been in a community performance of it . . the script and the story aren't brilliant. But the performances can really lift it up and make it an enormously fun show - as seen in this example above!
I like the attention to detail in the ancestors' motions, behaviors and even parts of their instrumental introduction. It's not as readily noticeable for the pilgrim and the saloon girl, at least not on the musical side, but starting with the conquistador the musical cues seem to become a bit more defined and associated with different ancestors. For the conquistador there's a consistent rattling noise almost like a ratchet to go with his spinning motions, almost like clockwork. As the lamenting bride approaches, the drums in the percussion take on the beat of the opening trumpet chords of the "Wedding March"; the soldier has a more defined tone and rigid melody and percussion, which is shared by the next ancestor (from the looks of it, the nurse). The flapper naturally has a 20's-sounding riff to match her dancing, and the Native American and caveman have an emphasis on the drums in their portions, followed by the fluttering of the wind instruments in the last ancestor's showy dance moves. It's little things like that that add to the atmosphere, love little touches like this.
I know this is old and I know this is so small but the ancestor in the bustle I believe came from the late 1700s instead of the 1800s. And the nurse is actually a 50s/60s flight attendant!
Yes! Also playing an ancestor is actually important and SO MUCH FUN!!! I play the conquistador at my theatre (not saying where and when the show is y’all-)and I already love it!!
Dj Hendricks I'm pretty sure it's not a tribute. She's just wearing braids. If that means anyone wearing braids could be a Wednesday Addams tribute. Its just a Native American ancestor
Maeve i only came to that conclusion because it's more than just the braids, it's the design of the dress, the placement of the feather, that type of stuff that mirrors movie Wednesday pretty well
It's always those little touches that makes me love productions so much, be it theater or film. I especially love how their interactions differ with each ancestor, like how Morticia does a curtsy to one and how Gomez and her gossip (?) when it was the bride ancestor (I'm assuming she was left in the altar). :))
Oh my gods..you have no idea how much I adore you for putting this up! I will never be able to see the full production, all I have are videos kind people like you put up so thank you from the bottom of my Addams heart..you rock :)

I know this show wasn't any kind of monster smash but I'm not sure I can think of a more perfect casting job with Nathan and Bebe in the history of the theatre....
I was thinking the same thing!!!! There’s a reason she’s in the ancestor dance scene when none of the other living family members are. She’s so fun to watch

Every once in a while, footage of this musical is posted and taken down. From the original Chicago performance and when they performed on Broadway. I wish it would stay on RUclips. It's such a great and underrated show. It was the first musical I ever saw on Broadway. Honestly, I wouldn't even mind if an official movie were to be made based on this musical.
Just seen the show on a school trip with my daughter on the 14th -- I haven't laughed sooo much!! The kids got to do a workshop with the ancestor cast earlier in the day & learned the routine & song. it was an awesome day!!!
Which ancestor were you? I mean, I know high schools do like to add a new ancestor that wasn't in the original Broadway version. But it is fun when schools decide to add new ones.

saw it in Buenos Aires back in 2013 and was stunning about its production. However now I get the smartness on every single lyric, the costumes and dancing referring the series (the clapping fingers and twist back from the 60s) and the movie, bout the clan the dancing parties at Addams graveyard and house, all was a kind of honoring
My least favorite thing about this show was the lack of a good villain. The plot is cute and all, but it's very cheesy. The movies were good because it juxtaposed the sweet but macabre Addams family with evil humans that were somehow far more insidious than they were. The wedding thing should have been a b plot.
Thank you for this! I want very much to see the original cast performance, but it doesn’t seem to be available on any home video format yet. Am I mistaken?
I doubt many will see this, and it is possible that not many have seen the 1998 adaption of The Addams Family but does anyone think that the very last ancestor could be Cousin Vlad?

“Because to deny death is to deny life.”
- Morticia Addams
one of the most powerful quotes ever said by her character
TRUE.
too bad they changed it :(
@@wirag4680 to me the other still is impactful. “Because dead or not, family is still family.
Can you explain what that meant?

the last ancestor is amazing. Great entrance. I couldn't keep my eyes off him the rest of the song.
if I had to guess is the last ancestor Charlie Sutton? He's an awesome dancer
No, it’s the brilliant and beautiful Reed Kelly.
The most underrated show ever.
Amen to that
We're actually putting it on at my school

Krysta’s belt on that final “die” is so clear. is perfection
this is one of those shows where no one will ever top the obc
it happens with almost every show
jordan pennell I'm not sure the uk tour looks really promising
Lauren Lopez Is my queen agreed.
Lauren Lopez Is my queen the UK Gomez and Morticia are awful
Lauren Lopez Is my queen the UK Wednesday and Lucas are pretty good
This number was apparently added late in the game in previews, and the arranger did a great job of fitting the band parts to the choreography.
Anyone else love the little melody the orchestra plays during the final "dieee"
Seriously there is one amazing ancestor who is a beat at dancing. Omgsh he is the last one out of the door and he is great throughout the whole dance

my school did this play and I was cast as the last ancestor to come out :) so excited to be able to showcase my absolute favorite dancer of all time♥️
name of the actor ?
These addams folk are hella glam tho...
we just had closing night for the show so im in post show depression and watching this. miss u addams ;(
the actor playing gomez addams played timon in the animation lion king if no one knew
he also played Nathan Detroit in the broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” which is where he got inspiration for his first name
I was in this musical in high school as an ancestor
Which ancestor were you? I mean, I know high schools do like to add a new ancestor that wasn't in the original Broadway version. But it is fun when schools decide to add new ones.
I was the pirate
@ Adding a pirate, a Viking, prisoner, and a cowboy were really cool
i laughed soo hard when they said the country music for Tennessee when I saw this bc my Honor Society class went to see this and we are from TN
THE LAST ANCESTOR
Gah this is so good, can't get enough of this!!
I can't believe I'm doing this musical at my school, so exciting 😆😆
I mouthed the whole thing, I’ve heard it so many times I might as well play Gomez. I’m a girl though. I’m also in a production of The Addams Family, playing Alice, which is why I’ve heard it so many times... help.
Ceci The Unicorn I feel you. I’m playing Gomez and our show is in like 2 weeks
You’re*. When YOU’RE an Addams.
This is a great performance though. Our High School is doing it this year. Such a fun play!
Yo! Our school is doing it as well! I'm an ancestor, but it's still fun to be apart of it.
Can't wait to see my local highschool production of Addams family musical next Friday and Saturday
Im currently in the Adaams family musical for school and they took out the Indian (as they should) and replaced it with a courtesaun
Braydon Hoggatt and Heidi Livingston were awesome last year as Morticia and Gomez can't wait to see what the 2020 show is 😊
My local highschool did an awesome show of Addams family musical. Last weekend 😊

2:23 Yo Nathan Lane is getting it
I did addams family and it just finished! I miss being the conquistador ancestor
I just finished The Addams Family too, I was the gambler ancestor!
I’m the conquistador ancestor as well for the show at my high school! Currently rehearsing and the show is next month
i was asked to be the native american (because i am native american) but like thats about it (i wasnt we decided against that lmao)
I just finished playing Morticia!
I wanted to be a bush, but I had to be an ancestor. I was the acrobatics ancestor.
My local high school did this show in 2019 perf for Halloween
This seems so fun to be in, I can’t
My local highschool is doing this as their spring musical March 15&17 Braydon Hoggatt is Gomez and Heidi Livingston is Morticia
My school is doing a play of this I'm an ancestor
Gotta love Nathan & Bebe!
I like this more than the new Wednesday show, to be honest.
Love this opening its catchy
Before you know it wensday will be Thursday 🤣🤣
Me: wow this looks pretty coo-
HOLY FUCK IS THAT NATHAN LANE
we did this show at my school! It was so fun!!
I just closed this show ❤ I played the bride and was understudy for Alice in 5 shows
So this performance was exactly 10 years before broadway went dark
Doing this song in my show this year 😍
Thank you for this! I want very much to see the original cast performance, but it doesn’t seem to be available on any home video format yet. Am I mistaken?
Ok but the flapper ancestor
Lurch giving my life during a number with dancing dead people.
This bit should have been on the Tonys.
I wonder what it’s like doing this in heels
Oh my gosh, do you have the full show?? I've been looking for a broadway cast recording!
did you find one 😢
7:06 Hold Up! Did They try to Kill Lurch before!?
I doubt many will see this, and it is possible that not many have seen the 1998 adaption of The Addams Family but does anyone think that the very last ancestor could be Cousin Vlad?
SamcroAngel wow good call

Love this song
Krystin Rodregez is great
Unsure why you would pay all that money to film, and not watch the show. The magic is the moment. If I work a camera, I get paid.
You can watch and enjoy a show while recording. I recorded half of Wicked at the Pantages using my knees to hold my phone lol
There are some people who go just to record it and sell it online
I know I'm 9 years late but is there a full recording of this show? ;;
You didn’t hear it from me, but allegedly if you look up “slime tutorials” and then whatever show you want to see something may come up.
Hypnotoad except i cant find an obc recording anywhere.. there was one posted here but i didnt have time to watch then the same day it was taken out lol
