If you grow up in an Italian family you would wake up by smell the of garlic and onions frying for the Sunday sauce and meatballs frying. The best!
I think the old school Italians called it gravy, cause it usually contained several kinds of meats, like meatballs, sausage, pork. Gravy or sauce, it's all good.
Gravy for the Italians!
Italian Americans call it that, my family was straight off the boat and never called it gravy. Gravy’s for turkey. Gotta be a jersey thing
Make our meatballs the same with beef, pork and veal. From our Little Italy neighborhood in Chicago, we still call it gravy.
You're right. Growing up, my Mom always called it gravy. I am 100% Italian. Half Sicilian and half Napolitan. Sauce was in jars. I myself always thought of it as gravy cause it had several kinds of meat in it. Meatballs, sausage, pork neckbones, sometimes pork skin rolled up into little rolls with grated cheese, garlic, and parsley. We called them "pig in a blanket." It was always on a Sunday, cause it took so long to cook. What great memories. It was usually rigatoni or ziti and a big green salad afterward. Funny, in those days we ate the salad AFTER the meal! At least in my family we did. ❤
Yes we are Napolitan and we called it gravy because there was always neckbones and sausage in the sauce.
Nothing better than Sunday sauce and family
Love watching you two, such a joy cooking together..great recipes ❤😊
You guys are so freaking ADORABLE!
YOU'S were always my favorite couple on Cake Boss!
So much true love ❤️
I love, love, love this!
I just want to share- for really tender meats balls I like to use heavy cream - delicious! Thank you for your love 😊
Same
Nothing better than homemade meatballs…this makes my heart sing 😊
This is the way I make my meatballs exactly like you make yours My Nonna. Taught me how to make the meatballs. She never had a recipe she just would put it together Every sunday, meatballs and all kind of meat And she Would fry the meatballs but made ours like you did for Mauro. It brings back so many memories.
I miss her dearly. Thank you, Madeline for sharing your recipes.
God bless❤❤❤
Omg...GRAVY is for meatloaf or turkey...SAUCE is for pasta...I never heard anyone say do you want sauce on your turkey..lol...love your channel...I make meatballs pretty much the same way...I use bread crumbs with milk..I think the milk is what is the trick to a moist meatball...
You are 100% correct!! I do the same thing. I use Italian bread crumbs and one cup of milk per pound of meat. However, where I come from, it's gravy. If you look in the Soprano's Cookbook, it's "Sunday Gravy."
@@nblue1938 lol...and remember they were all actors with a script...lol...
Italians call it what it is it's gravy. It starts out as sauce but the juices from the various meats put it turns to gravy
Mauro getting the first fried meatball is like licking the beaters after just making whipped cream❤️❤️❤️
These are the best meatballs I’ve ever made! Thank you. My husband would like to thank you from turning his Polish wife into an Italian cook. lol.
So excited for this recipe. Cant wait for the Sunday sauce one. My girls ask all the time, but being from Ireland (living in NJ) Irish recipes are it. You e helped me learn all the awesome Italian stuff. My girls love your cutlets
My Dad made his meatballs exactly the same. They are delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Fear of “you don’t know how to make meatballs???” Thank you for inviting us into your kitchen. I felt right at home. You’re fun and a great teacher. Thank you! Meatballs for dinner tomorrow!

Gravy / sauce whatever as long as it is delicious. I'm in Rhode Island a lot of us call it gravy lol.
You always have to fry up a few extra to test them out 😂

Looks soo good, wish youtube had smell 🤤
I love you guys I wish I could be part of your family
I cant wait to try this recipe
♡♡♡♡
It is love in action.
Traditionally my family used beef, pork and veal. If I was home in So. Jersey, I'd hop over the bridge to the Italian Market in Philly for my meat at Cappuccio's. Even now in Ohio, I made 12 braciole & there's just 2 of us. I make at least 45 meatballs. We fry or bake...my mil used to tell me I was wrong bc I didn't dump in raw. To me it is Sunday Gravy.
I love this channel. I love her so much. I wish I could come have some meatballs
❤ I just made your sauce so far I love it and I love you keep the food coming
Do you have a video on how to make your sauce? I just started following your accounts. Love your recipes. 😍
Oh my gosh, just made these meatballs and im in LOVE ! I got like 38 meatballs, and nice size. Never will i buy the tastelass frozen kind.
How long do you simmer the meatballs with the sausage and the pork???? This looks fabulous 👌
I can almost smell them!!! 😋
Oh. I think I can smell them.!!!!
Love love your utube
I LOVE TO COOK AND BAKE!!!! I used to be a personal chef.
Maddalena, could you show us how you make Baked Ziti is it the same as you made sausage Penne? Please answer as i plan to make it tomorrow (Saturday). Thanks Donna xoxo
Can’t wait to make these
I'm Sicilian,
My Mom and Nonnie made meatballs exactly like this!
Trying this tonight!
I used to make this once a month and freeze for weekly dinners! Nothing like pork cooked in the sauce 🎉
I make the meatballs the same way you do. I learned from my mother who loved to cook too.
I go through cilantro, like you go through parsley! ♥️
I do the same thing for my husband as you do. When I make potato salad I always boil an extra egg or two just for my baby.
I whiz the parsley & garlic up in a little food processor. The smell is terrific
Do you always use flat leaf parsley?
I use the bread and milk also it makes them so moist.
you guys are too cute!!!
Use your meat hook on your new mixer for the mixture. So much easier to mix the meat mixture when you have arthritis.
When are you going to make Auntie Anna’s shrimp scampi? I’d love to see you make it
I always use ground chuck and no other meat. But Now I am going to be adding mild Italian sausage to the mix. And making a much larger batch for my family. I have never done the wet milk bread method personally and before
Love you your doll you make me happy
The best at times I’ll use veal with hamburger pork and sausage omg what a flavor what is the best hamburger lately our hamburger doesn’t taste like it used to
My mom used to add slice bread. Take the ends off & wet the bread with water
Mine like yours, love fry meatballs 😋.
I Make mine exactly the same way
We’re the sauce what kind of tomatoes do you use or suggest please even our tomato aren’t tasted good
Some nights I make fried meatballs and mashed potatoes and a vegetable. My family loves them and it's something different.
Yum
Yummy

My only question is, after you touched the meat while explaining about the four sausage links, you went directly to the bread and picked up the milk container with hands contaminated by the raw meat. I just assume you then cleaned the handle of the milk jug.
I like using the bread last
I like using bread also
My mom, used stale italian rolls, softened by water. Then fried them!
🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹💯sauce💯💯💯💯
Double that recipe for guests. Leftovers! ❤🎉
I grew up in NYC and lived an immigrant Italian neighborhood and no one ever said gravy. Where did gravy come from? Do they call it gravy in Italy? I was very confused when I first heard sauce called gravy.
No onions?
I use costco olive oil.
Last name Brilla like the pasta I'm one of 11 6 sisters 4 brothers from PGH your a doll
My meatballs are bigger then those but these look good
I would lose my mind putting my bare hands into that bowl of raw meat and eggs. I would need to wear gloves. I'm going to try the bread method for sure.
