Most importantly, it's the safest cat; the all-metal hull and mast work like a lightning rod and are lightning-proof. Most sailboats are made from fiberglass or carbon fiber and are vulnerable, especially with a tall mast. It's a very smart choice.
We have a weekend sailboat that we go out most weekends with our two little girls. What brand lifejacket do you have? We currently have blue ones (would have to look at the brand) and the girls will be outgrowning them and we are looking for new one for them. Charlie looks like she doesnt mind wearing hers!! We will be tuning in next week - good luck on the move!
You will love the screecher! It is my favourite sail, I think you will find that you will use it all the time. Love that cait knows about ticklers aka tatty tussles lol
When we started this adventure Cait had never sailed. I am so proud of all the effort she has put into learning about sailing and how brave she has been taking on this adventure with no real idea as to what it entails
Absolutely! It was super flat calm that day ans we could see the dolphins heading towards us from a ways away! Definitely one for the memory bank 😍💙💙 -Cait
What an adventure and great way to see the world. The most I've been on a boat was a cruise ship. I'm already looking forward to seeing the next episode.
We are in the search phase, actively looking and Inspecting at boats, both monos and catamarans. We are going to be in the Gold Coast in the next few days looking at some catamarans in the area. We have heard really good things about the GCCM and The BoatWorks, looking forward to seeing the facilities there
We have had really good experiences with both and can definitely recommend them. The haul out manager at GCCM was extremely lovely to work with on coordinating Shining Lights haul out date and time. They are right next to each other, The BoatWorks and GCCM. All the facilities and availability of so many trades all in one area is amazing, they have almosy everything there that you could need. Good luck on the search! ⛵️😊
@Sailing with the James’s That's good to hear. We have a handfup of boats lines up to see at the boat works, we are looking around the 40-44ft mark in length
another video topic idea: do a segment showing off all your comms gear on board and talk about how it all works. we caught a glimpse of your antennas from when Cait went up the mast in a bucket in a later video, but I'd be curious to learn about it all.
We could definitely do a video on our comms, it's super interesting all the different wires etc. We will be getting new wind instruments in the future and could do a overview of all our communications onboard! -Cait
I know! Charlie is growing up wayyy to fast! She is starting to tring sentences together so I think we will have a little chatter box on our hands before we know it lol
@@sailingwiththejamess oh very cute, looking forward to seeing her start talking. It's wonderful that she will have these videos to look back on. What a wonderful childhood
Thanks mate! We move on to her this week- super excited about her and about getting back out on the water 😊 Stoked that she passed the survey with flying colours 🙌
Wow it must be sad seeing summer go but the new ride looks mad. I love the crowther flare also just makes them look sick, you will have to let us know if it makes a difference to performance
It was super sad to see summer go but we are excited for our next adventure. I think the flares are a bit of old technology and will just enable us to have less dagger board down but I will have a play and let you know.
Thanks Diane! We have absorbed a lot of information from the two marine surveys in the last few weeks, and it's always interesting to learn from others. The marine surveyor we used was really helpful and we learned quite a bit from him. We are currently looking at ideas for enclosing the back deck, we are looking at others to learn how they have enclosed their back deck
Cheers we have big plans for the cockpit. We love outdoor living and will make it so the whole back deck can be covered in with a table and additional freezer out there.
Hahaha yes this is probably the video that i have watched the most personally for that reason lol. We ended up getting hauled out a GCCM due to availability. I can't remember exactly but I thing it was around about $600. We used Peter pope as our surveyor as he had done surveys for us in the past and we really liked him. I believe he gave us a small discount as it was $1500 for the survey. -sam
Nice lines if you do buy i would look if theres a way to open a direct forward opening hatch ... From the bridge deck to the Tramps? The side deck walks are narrow and might be tricky in a rolly or squally sea ⛵.
Hey Clive, we do plan to put forward facing hatches in at some point but the plan was for ventilation. It isn't an immediate plan so we will see how she is in a heavy see and may make it big enough for me to squeeze through.
@@sailingwiththejamess Take a look at the maine cats and the Windelo design work. I need to see how the interior is laid out. .. you just popped up in my suggestions.😎🧙♂️⛵🇬🇧
Wow I hadn't herd of Maine cats or windelos. The Maine cats look like a cross between a Whitehaven and a seawind and the windelos are next level. I like the look of both of them, shinning light has a table on one side and the gallery on the other, both butting up to the forward facing windows so we will have to put a fair bit of thought into it. She is our boat on Tuesday soo.....
@@sailingwiththejamess Thats great news.. I would recommend tracking down a couple of online articles on the First Windelo's test sailing in a gale and a Ten month round the Atlantic tour via iceland .. The other cat I would take a look at is the pioneering Broad blue Rapier 550 🇬🇧⛵🧙♂️ from Cornwall where one person can sail at 18kn all weathers and barely have to get out of their chair let alone get wet/cold.
@gatecrasher1970 Rush against the tide & time, Had a limited amount of time to beach her and get everything done before the tide came in again, unfortunately the waterline didn't get cleaned that time 🫧🧼 -Cait
Like with all boats, there are a lot of contributing factors. But if I were to choose the biggest thing that affects us upwind, it would be sea state. If a monohul has a similar age of sails, just as clean a hull as us and the total wave height was less than 1 meter, I would put my money on us to have the best VMG. -Sam
Nice boat
Thank you!! 😊 We are super excited about moving onboard full time 😍
Well done
Thank you, the survey and test sail went really well! We are looking forward to moving onboard full time

awesome boat, she looks beautiful.
Cheers Sarah, we think so too. We hope that we don't fill it up to much. It's super easy to turn a beautiful boat into a bit of a junker lol
Cait wants me to correct. It will be me junking the boat up lol.

one question as i seen your latest prop disaster video , why you never polished the aluminium above the water line boat looks a mess

How well does this hull sail upwind? I know cruising cats aren’t famous for that, but I’d still like to know
