The effects of zhan zhuang on my aikido practice were very noticeable.
It’s good not to do too long at the start as the wrong structure can develop, based more on muscular tension than on sung etc. There’s that common(ish) phrase of 90% moving qigong, 10% standing when starting off moving towards 10% moving & 90% standing as one progresses.
And the effects of the differences between each of the five main forms are interesting. And since of the variations: I was happily doing 30mins as a daily practice and then tried weight more on one leg and the other foot at around 45 degrees, heel lifted, and my thigh was vibrating within several minutes.
It’s a great practice and can be quite playful- changing for example the focus of awareness to the lower dan tien and breathing out through the body from there; playing with attention at the bubbling well to just in front of the heel; bones up & flesh down and “just standing” ( like in “just sitting”).

Apparently static exercise is a very efective way to lower blood pressure.

If you do the exercise right, which is very hard to do, you feel like an immovable steel structure.

Exactly. Builds a deep root and connectedness through the frame. It's the central exercise of every art I study.

@@artofinnerpower Thank you! I will. Do you know the work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen? She has an amazing understanding of the body. At the moment and until end December her video courses are available on a "Pay from the heart"_ basis - donation or free scholarship. May be worth a look and so easy to apply. She has a youtube channel if you want to check if it resonates with you. I'll look up Joey Nishad and look forward to your next video! 🌞

Whats the use of training your body when you're not training your mind?
    Keep practice. Good luck.

Who said we not training the mind? This video is about the body. Mind training can be incorporated into Zhan Zhuang. I prefer to meditate. 🙏

Training the body, trains the mind. Zhan Zhuang is standing meditation.

Hmmmm. I would remove the photo of Prof Yu if I were you unless you got permission and also that was at the hospital I think and not many of those students hung around. The others seem to be more Master Lam style which is very different. The tai chi guy is doing sthg else clearly. All these are sick people standing i.e. beginner and sick. The secrets or power etc takes years and harder and harder training yet many look at high easy positions and think that will do it. No pain no gain.

You’re right, definitely good to get permission to use clips etc.
With qigong I go for the “pain equals NO gain” approach! That’s not to say giving up- but for example as I stood for longer periods of time there was a continual and growing opportunity to release tension that built up (eg shoulders and lower back), a continual opportunity to realign. And a fascinating journey in observing thoughts, as well as listening to the body.
