Jess, in spite of the downside, you are admired because you are doing what someone else is incapable of doing. It is well-known that every single person experiences adversities and bad/terrible moments in their lives... but they forge ahead, as YOU do. Good circumstances don't always fall on our laps; oftentimes, we have to CREATE those good circumstances. It may well have to do your positive mind-frame. Best wishes.
"I could've been in Justin Timberlake's 'Cry Me a River' music video, like in the background, just crying." You always get me with your illustrations!!
i recently found your channel and i am truly obsessed. first time/night, when i found ur channel i had a lil jessica maraton, and i watched ur videos till 3:30am, lol. i love photography and editing, i don't even have photoshop or lightroom (yet), but it's something with you that i really like. - and when i think about it, this is the reason. that you are so honest and, open. you are struggling with life, everyone does that sometimes. but you are just human, and a person who really work hard to be where you are today. you are just so real and genuine. you inspires me. you really do.
+Jessica Kobeissi i wanted to ask you is nikon coolpix b500 good for me im 11 and i want to start with photography THANKS IN ADVANCE I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS YOU ARE SO INSPIARING!!!❤️💗
Jessica Kobeissi yes!!! This is so true for artists. Art... well It's like a form of schizophrenia I swear ! I feel for you girl. My husband probably thinks I'm crazy from the numerous creative breakdowns I have had over my artwork 😂
Jessica you are strong. When I first saw you on youtube it was the humor and my home girl from Detroit that sparked my interest. However, it was your humble, hard working drive and attitude that kept me. I worked 50-60 hours a week, raised a family, and had little time for my passion of photography. Now I travel the world for my job, work 50+ hours, raise a family, AND give 20-30hours a week to my love photography. Learning on YT from driven and encouraging people like yourself, inspires me everyday. Also, shit happens in life. How you overcome and prevail shows the spirit and toughness more people could use. I have found it hard to ask for help. But, network, rely on people and they will love and support you more. Peace girl! Love and keep doing it.
Jessica, you are an inspiration ;you are so honest and down to earth. We all have obstacles some financial others physical or even mental but the key is to keep getting up and pursuing our dream to inspire and make the world a better place.
Everything you said around 11:45 was super relatable. I'm obsessed with thinking about photography/improving my work too, even when you want your brain to turn off. You rock though, thanks for everything you do!
Wow, you really never know what someone has been through. I'm glad you didn't give of on photography, Jessica. You definitely inspired me and I'm sure this video will inspire others. Thank you for this.
OMG Jessica. Bless your heart. I had no idea you had gone through all these things. You're absolutely right, as a viewer you only see the "good parts" and you dont even know what people are going through. I hope life blesses you tenfold and things only look up from here. And if they dont, know that we are here for you
I really hope you achieve your dreams, Jessica. And then achieve things you didn't even know were possible. And I know you will because you work hard, you keep it real and you have a beautiful talent. You inspire me. I'm so glad I found your channel and your art!
Stay encouraged Jessica! You're an amazing photographer and artist . . as a photographer myself, you inspire me to create. You have a great spirit & your work pushes me. All the best to you in 2017!
When I found your channel I actually wasn´t into photography, just editing my best friend pictures. The day I started watching your videos I began to be obsessed, now I really want to move from editing pictures to taking them, and all because of you. You're such and inspiration to me. Love you Jess! PD: Sorry if there is any mistake in the writing. I'm from Venezuela
I like your honesty, and you work so hard. I really admire that. I have phases when I think about photography day and night and it is so draining, I imagine that it must be like that for you all the time! My motivation dropped this winter because it's so cold, the weather and light are bad so my ideas are hard to execute, and I feel so guilty for not shooting.
Much respect. TBH I find these realistic views from hardworking people more inspiring than seeing people live (seemingly) glamorous lives. Thanks for this! :D
hang in there Jessica, and never give up..things may come against you but you will always over come them, you are a huge inspiration to me and have had much good advice....for that I thank you.
Omg Jess I feel so bad for you :((( I would be BEYOND devastated if all of my expensive equipment and old art projects that could not be recreated were destroyed!! And that dog attack sounds so scary I'm so glad that you are physically ok though! You're so strong I'd still be bawling about those things :(
Very strong story. We had our previous office in a cellar without any draining system. SO scared of exactly that happening. I even practiced on how to walk in complete darkness down to the gear cabinet and get everything out quicksnap in case of water leak/flood/power outtage.. So glad you are recovering, and keeping creative and busy. Keep up making good images. Appreciate the sharing.
I just saw this now, Jessica, I feel you, I've been attacked by a dog when I was a kid...scarred me for life... and I grew up in a war-torn county (I know it does not relate to photography but i feel a lot for you now). It's so typical for social media to make people believe that everyone has a perfect life but them, that is why videos like this are important! Thank you :)
I wanted to tip my hat off to your honesty. We work in an industry based on appearances, and it became pretty common for my follower base to think I'm living the dream life, shooting beautiful girls everyday in a massive studio on my own. The reality is far from that and I've always felt a bit torn between maintaining the dream perceived by my audience and telling them the bare truth: that's it's not unusual to tinker a makeshift softbox with bed sheets, using a tiny wall of my little apartment as a background, working around the limitations of my half broken camera body and trying to make the magic work all night long in photoshop -while not managing the make ends meet yet. The reason I'm torn about it raises a question though: do you think honesty could limit your career opportunities somehow? Especially when getting started. I feel like sometimes that the fashion world brushes off "normal" people with "normal" everyday feelings. Can we afford to be truly honest from the very beginning of a photographic career? I don't want to fake anything. I just want to be what I am. Thank you! Stéphane, from France. @stephane.michaux.photo
Jessica, thank you so much for sharing. I recently fell in love with photography and definitely at times envy you guys' lifestyle (from watching youtube videos/instagram feed/etc). I think it's important that people know what goes on behind the scene as well. Social media has a way of focusing on only glamorous parts and leaving the audience envious or sad about their own lives. What you shared here is personal and I'm sure it wasn't easy, but I'm sure it brings much needed perspective to people who badly need to see it. Also, I've learned quite a lot from your videos. Thanks for sharing!
I am happy i found your channel, and i cant stop watching. lol i am happy that you're kind and amazing please dont change. your photos and editing skills are impressive. As a college student who wants to pursue graphic design/ photographic you're an inspiration. We are not perfect and its okay to struggle because thats what makes us human at the end of the day. :))))
honestly Jessica no artists thinks of creative ideas during the day it always happens when youre laying in bed. As a matter of fact i was up just last night writing ideas and woke up first thing this morning to implement them. you are an inspiration. im glad you survived the dog attack :)
Its refreshing to hear something like this Jessica, i work insanely hard at my photography as well. I've only started my business recently and have been trying to make my own name, i feel like i can relate to you on a lot of levels. I've noticed my life shifting around as more people begin to approach me for work and lately I've felt it can be a little overwhelming at times, my sleeping patterns change completely during busier times compared to times i might have one job and i'm constantly editing now and its really the only thing going on in my life right now. I adore what i'm doing but i'm finding it really hard to balance everything else on top. I actually use a lot of the tips and ideas you have in your videos to start turning this passion into what i hope will be a fulfilling career and at times its felt at times that although I've hit what in my eyes are big milestones, the reality hits me back saying you're still not ready for this or you can't do this and its nice to find someone although we've not met in person to relate to. i'm sorry for rambling, but thank you for being honest :)
If there was a love button on youtube.... I mean.. I can tell you edited out a lot of emotions in this video .... and as if all your other videos aren't appreciated.. this.. this is very much appreciated cause of how SUPER SUPER REAL it is.. this applies to any entrepreneur. People just don't know. Talking about going places but only to work; it especially hit home cause I live in Seattle and I'm a photographer and you mentioned Seattle a couple times. Jessica you are fuckin dope as can be.
i think a better way to say is that you're profession is a dream. But any career comes with its struggles and if anyone wants to get anywhere they have to fight for it! You go girl you deserve to be at a great place in your live right now, keep positive!
Small advice that has helped me to focus more and improve my work... don't do it alone! Bring an assistant you can trust on board, someone respectful that can help you take care of the equipment and assist you with lightning as well.
Jessica, so I glad so spoke about your struggles with photography. People don't understand how hard photography actually is. People like yourself should never give up on their dreams, no matter what people may think about them. It people like you that help me to move and pursue my dreams, so glad you have this channel.
Great video! Thank you for being open about your personal struggles and what you've been through to get to where you are now. I'm about to embark on the "dream" of being a full-time photographer and while I'm already cringing at what I know it will take, seeing someone like you look back at it and still wanting to move forward gives me some extra inspiration to do it anyway!
Hey Jessica, I can see where your coming from and I don't think you've mislead anyone. The reason why is because a lot of people tend to post their favourite moments nothing wrong with that but not too many people are honest so thank you for that. Everyone goes through struggles no matter what you do in all areas and I believe you to be the type of person who learns from past problems and improves upon them. You live a very fine life. I life I massively appreciate as you have the guts to everyday which I do not, mainly envy. So your appreciated for the struggles, the love, your personality, just for who you are. So enjoy the little moments such as when you realise you've taken the perfect picture, the light was just right, the people and background were one together. I'm glad I came across your work
I can't think of anything during the day like a normal person either! I'm glad you are able to share this with us! You're one of my favorite photographers! Always wishing you the best. And it's very obvious how hard you work!
It's so important for a dose of realism from popular media content creators. With such a passion for putting out quality content, it can naturally seem like your life is just one moment of a highlight reel to the next. But it's not, and that's okay. Thanks for sharing.
I really like this video.. Jessica, you're fantastic as a person it seems and with your talent. God bless you hun. Keep up the good work. I ran across your channel and learned from you.. Great job.. Keep up the good work. I know it's tough to do what you're doing and you are handling it like a champ..
Loved watching this video, and completely relate to the not being able to sleep and constantly thinking. Trying to balance is such a hard thing as a photographer. Sometimes i'm editing around the clock and its like a never ending shift lol but it's all worth it!
I appreciate your honesty. I spend all of my time working too and it's something I'm grateful for but it's also really difficult. I relate to this video so so so much. In regards to your camera equipment and the dog attack I am so so sorry that happened to you.
I'm a beginner in the photography world & your videos are soo inspiring! I could relate alot to this video...it's a struggle for everyone and nobody seems to think so, just because your genuinely happy and travel constantly....there's more to it..I respect you for making a video about it all. Keep doing what you love! xx
Do not give up, please, Jessica. Have faith and go forward. I love you so much, it inspired me so so much and you're still doing it. Go ahead, go ahead. Be strong. I love you. ♥♥♥
Life... it's a terrible thing to happen to a person, it's all in how we persieve it. You just turn around and laugh in it's face. Keep smiling Jessica.😀
Despite what happen negative in your life...you are a awesome person and photographer keep on inspiring people like me to continue the wonderful craft of photography...Thank you!!!!!!!!!
thank you for sharing this, jessica. it kind of reminds me of my time at university. i got accepted on my first try and one of my friends was like "god, venla, i'm so jealous, you're so lucky". little did she know i only applied to uni because i'd been rejected by art school and i thought going to university would make my family proud. little did she know that, while i was thankful for the opportunity, i hated university so much i got severely depressed to the point where i entirely stopped attending lectures because all i did at uni was hide in the bathroom and cry. anyway, it's not the same thing, obviously, but just... yeah. things aren't always as great as they seem from the outside. and i really appreciate you sharing the less glamorous side of your journey. stay strong, and i hope you get some proper sleep soon. x
For a while I volunteered with a local public access Music video TV show (back in like 2000). We'd sometimes get to go to concerts and record, so we'd be up on stage and backstage and we'd get to meet the singers and do interviews. People would see that and say things like "You're so lucky! I wish I could be there!". What they didn't see is all the hard work that would happen before the concert. All the crates of equipment we had to move around, all the setting up, sometimes we'd work for 12 hours with barely a lunch. So I'd always try to explain to people that yes, being backstage, making interviews, being on stage recording, that was all fun but it was also a ton of work that they most probably wouldn't want to do. With that said, I also can't deny that I was indeed lucky, because I'm sure a lot of people out there would have put in the work to make all that happen, but they didn't get the opportunity, I did. So, yes, work hard every day, but never forget that some people out there probably are working just as hard if not harder and they still don't see those results. Just like some probably have worked less and are doing better. So, no, I don't think you make it seem like your life is so great without you having to put any work into it, I think we all know you work hard, but some parts still seem very fun :)
As someone who has been around the photography world for at least 20 years with family members who were also professional photographers at a time when you could make a full time living as a photographer, I see way too many young photogs on social media making it look like they live some glamorous, rolling in money life. It's not like that. Photographers are not one in a million anymore. Everyone is a photographer now, so its harder than ever to make money off of it. I think it's bad that these popular photogs on social media make it look like it's so great and easy. Thanks for making this video.
Wow! That dog attack was horrible yet incredibly lucky that it didn’t hit that nerve! Wow!! That was the universe or God or whatever you believe in telling you to not give up and go after it! You definitely did and are! I agree with another commenter that your attitude, “why you gotta hurt my lenses”.
Marhaba ammo Jessica, I am inspired by people who choose to shine despite the storms they’ve been through. Smiling doesn’t mean life is perfect, it means your attitude is. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. There is always something to be grateful for. Never forget that. Have a powerful day. -Maher
I have hard time to shut off my brain during nights as well. a lot ideas just pop up and can't stop. maybe you should try meditation-purposely let you mind go blank for 10min. that helps my sleep. I love your work and I studied your work and youtube all the time. Best wishes from Phoenix!!!
Jessica, take a break for time to time, you deserve it and we will support and love you anyway, 1 video, post, idea +/-, your work is inspiring and helps us, that's what matters. Stop comparing yourself with others, that's a big root of unhappiness and stress, everyone is unique and you're one of the quality RUclips filmmakers. We thank you for telling us your struggles and next time you need help, have the courage to ask for it, we won't let you down! ✌
Some people want what you have, but don't want to do what you did, to get there.
Hi Jessica! You look GORGEOUS, beautiful eyes, like ANGELINA JOLIE'S.
I am a massage therapist, free massage of you come to Austin.
indeed love
Jess, in spite of the downside, you are admired because you are doing what someone else is incapable of doing. It is well-known that every single person experiences adversities and bad/terrible moments in their lives... but they forge ahead, as YOU do. Good circumstances don't always fall on our laps; oftentimes, we have to CREATE those good circumstances. It may well have to do your positive mind-frame. Best wishes.
"I could've been in Justin Timberlake's 'Cry Me a River' music video, like in the background, just crying." You always get me with your illustrations!!

I feel like, 5years into trying to be a model, I still can't overcome life obstacles and don't know how to improve anymore to follow those damn dreams

Keep doing what you love! xx

Oh don't mind me guys, just having a Jessica marathon at 3:00 a.m.
thank you for sharing this, jessica. it kind of reminds me of my time at university. i got accepted on my first try and one of my friends was like "god, venla, i'm so jealous, you're so lucky". little did she know i only applied to uni because i'd been rejected by art school and i thought going to university would make my family proud. little did she know that, while i was thankful for the opportunity, i hated university so much i got severely depressed to the point where i entirely stopped attending lectures because all i did at uni was hide in the bathroom and cry. anyway, it's not the same thing, obviously, but just... yeah. things aren't always as great as they seem from the outside. and i really appreciate you sharing the less glamorous side of your journey. stay strong, and i hope you get some proper sleep soon. x
your honesty is amazing and makes me admire you SO MUCH MORE thank you
great story, especially about the part about jotting ideas down in the middle of the night.
Thanks for making this video.
your so real!! much respect!! keep grinding girl:)
"Just dont hurt my lenses!!" :D
You have a great personality, Jessica!
14:28 so true! as a photographer i think we need clones for ourselves for 1 so much to do in so little time sometimes :...(
Marhaba ammo Jessica,
I am inspired by people who choose to shine despite the storms they’ve been through.
Smiling doesn’t mean life is perfect, it means your attitude is.
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
There is always something to be grateful for. Never forget that.
Have a powerful day.

Maybe for people with a different background and/or profession doing what you do with all the struggle in the world is still a "dream".
Your amazing! Your human just like everyone els. Hard work pays off!
