If you ever feel self-conscious about the length of your ShB videos, keep in mind two things: 1. Other content creators all have the same problem of "How do I edit this footage, I want to show it ALLLLLL?", e.g. Quazii who recently put up a three hour(!) ShB vid. Which was awesome, by the way. 2. We're here for you and love your content. No such thing as a "too-long" Bree video.
Also, I love Minfilia giving Thancred the practice cartridge: "I've been putting a little bit more explosion magic into this little shell every day for the last five years so take it for good luck and hopefully it won't explode on you"
I'm not sure if you read the tooltips, but Thancred's 'Perfect Deception' restricts the aether that keeps him alive to turn him invisible. Then when Ranjit starts seeing through it, 'Souldeep Invisibility' completely cuts it off, which makes him undetectable, but is also killing him faster. I was actually kind of worried that you were going to take too long and die during those parts.
"When all hangs in the balance, _you_ must give them hope." "But not even the most valiant heroes can stand alone. Only _together_ may you change the fate of two worlds." These hit really hard when you understand them.
Lol chat got you good on Thancred. I believe the reason Urianger changed course before the trolley was because he had a vision of Thancred’s battle with Ran’jit. It’s very likely Thancred would’ve died without all of them there to help regenerate his aether. Just another reason to love Urianger.
Don't apologize for the length of the video, it's exactly what everyone wants to see! I've been watching for updates from you like a hawk, can't wait to see the rest of ShB and onward!
Ryne's character arc makes me cry so much. Living in the shadow of not only the original Minfillia but living up to the expectations of countless other Minifillias. And then Thancred comes along and puts even more burden on her, constantly reminded of his lost childhood friend, it's no wonder he had such complicated emotions. He didn't need to keep her around, he could have left her with the Crystarium, but he chose to travel with her and in doing so he only abused himself and in return he sort of passed on that abuse to her. I don't think he meant to do the things he did but he still did them and that left such a terrible strain on Ryne. Then when Magnus said "All you left behind was this useless thing." It was like Magnus was Thancred and Ryne was that golem, she couldn't handle it anymore. And right at the end with all the emotions at a peak Thancred finally lets go, Ryne gets to make the choice, she can either choose to become what she was expected to be by everyone or forge her own path and try to become the person that she wanted to be all along. Thancred and Ryne's dynamic was complicated and tragic but also at the end they both found a way to accept not only each other but themselves. This expansion dealt with some just fantastic themes and executed on them well.
Ryne's later character arc (part of the "Eden" 8-man raid series) just seems to continue the work started by her MSQ character progression from "Minifilia" into Ryne proper, as she becomes a little more independent and makes a steadfast friend (albeit one with her own dark secrets and checkered past). I love everything they've done with Thancred & Ryne this expansion, and I hope they get the chance to be reunited someday (somehow) or at the very least, that Hydaelyn's Chosen will do them the courtesy of ferrying handwritten mail between the Source and the First.
For some reason, the fact that the name on her text box changes from "Minfilia" to "Ryne" mid-cutscene always gets me. It's a little touch, but I love it.
I am a 42 year old man... I have been playing MMOs for 23 years... and I will unashamedly admit that I was a blubbering mess through a good half of Shadowbringers. Such a great story. I can't wait for Endwalker.
Just also want you to know, Minfilia said the exact same words to Thancred (your kindness, your compassion, your love) at the end of 3.4 when she headed to the First
I just now realized Thancred probably survived because the entire rest of the scions are all healers and he probably needed all four. Good call Urianger.
@@tenjenk Imagine the double whammy of pain that would occur... Losing him once, then again when Tataru and the others find out what happened to him...
My favorite detail about the last appearance of Minfilia here, that legitimately makes me emotional all on its own, is this. You know how Norvrandt and Eorzea are mirrors of each other geographically, just with different histories leading to different development and whatnot? Amh Araeng is the mirror of Thanalan, and there was a live letter a couple years ago where the devs basically winked at a question mentioning the trolley tracks going through the hill here in Amh Araeng being a match for the tracks through the hill just past Horizon. That means that the spot where Minfilia stopped the Flood, and where you and Thancred both had your last meetings with her, is around where Vesper Bay is on the Source. I know that it's a meme nowadays, but you both essentially returned to the Waking Sands one last time to say goodbye to her. And that actually hits me surprisingly hard? Also yeah, Minfilia being a miner, and all the Thancred and Minfilia backstory here, is from 1.0. There's a canon short story on SE's site about how Thancred first met Minfilia (then named Ascilia and actually given the name Minfilia by Thancred) too! No spoilers in this, it's safe to read: na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/tales_from_the_shadows/sidestory_01/
aw, poor Bree. *hug* It made me cry seeing you cry. I know exactly how you felt! As far as the length of your videos go, I love longer videos personally. When other content creators make these 30 minute reaction videos or playthroughs, I feel like they cut out a lot! So if I want to watch a reaction or a playthrough, I want to see all of them! lol
I know that to the other Scions (especially Thancred), this dilemma of Ryne vs. Minifilia was.... well, a dilemma. But to me, it wasn't even a question; not even an issue to be thought about. Not because I love Ryne more than any other NPC in this game (I do, but that's not the point), or because don't like Minfilia (I wasn't a big fan of her or anything, but I certainly didn't DISlike her), but I think I always looked at her "loss" at the end of ARR differently than them. They all think about her selfishly; how they are losing her, and don't want to. They can only think about trying to get her back, because they miss her. And I mean, hell... I get that. But I always saw it more like she was doing what she wanted; what she felt was right. That she was *happy*, and I was happy for her. And it kinda pisses me off a little that they seem like they refuse to even consider that. It's almost like they don't even care what she wants; they only care about what they want for her. Mourn her, sure... but eventually you have to accept the loss and move on. I did, but it feels like they refuse to. And as I was typing this, I realized that kinda mirrors the Ascians and their plans. They want to bring back their world, their friends, their loved ones, by offering up the souls of those alive today in sacrifice to restore them. But those people willingly sacrificed their lives in the first place so that others could live; would they really want to be brought back in such a manner? Probably not. But the Ascians have probably long stopped thinking any such thoughts; they're only concerned with what *they* want; salving their *own* hurts. It's really the same issue; being unable to accept loss and move on. That said... I felt a little guilty watching your reaction to that part with Thancred, because I was chuckling a bit, knowing what was coming up after. And then when you got to that, I laughed kinda loud. xD
I was gonna watch a tiny bit of the video ended up watching everything. Too good! What a emotional ride. The reason I love your videos is because you're so emotional, kinda like me. “So, Thancred, our new plan is to throw a dice and see whether your old daughter-figure lives, or your new daughter-figure lives. You wanna join us?” Yeah, I felt terrible for Thancred this chapter, playing through. This was a lose-lose scenario for him in the most devastating sense. Also, a lot of people think that speech was the deathflag for Thancred. The truth is, it’s dramatic and sad because is the deathflag for Minfillia. Thancred knew in the moment that Ryne had the resolve to take the mantle of Oracle of Light, and knew that it would be Minfilia who would be the one dying. He was saying his tearful goodbyes because he couldn’t be there to say it to her in person. Also his goodbye is very reminiscent of the speech she gave to Thancred when she left for the first.

Ranjit essentially became so embittered and broken by minfilia's repeated deaths, who he raised as both apprentice and daughter, till he lost all hope and was vulnerable to the words of Vauthry. it would have been really nice if both of them had been wrecked by their fight, with him revealing his past raising the Minfilia's as both apprentices and daughters, but how much each death wrecked him and embittered him, made him lose hope enough to listen to Vauthry. He could have heard what Thancred had to say in his turn, similar to what we did get with Ranjit getting to know more about the original Minfilia and Thancred's history with her. He could have passed away, conceding that perhaps Thancred was the deserving guardian but then make it look like Thancred did too, leaving it ambigious until later like they actually did. If they really wanted us to fight him too, they could have had vauthry reveal during the invasion that he had Ranjit's body taken and morphed into a sineater, with us having to put it down. It would have established Vauthry as an even bigger bastard and been another one of shadowbringers painful blows to us to see that done to Ranjit's body after his and thancred's one on one time.
Thancred 100% was kinda pissing me off during this expansion! Like get your shit together Dadcred, Minfilia needs you and your being all broody and stubborn. Urianger forever better.
Never feel stupid about not knowing who any of a dozen "Mysterious Strangers" or "Man With One Left Boot" or whatever are. There's a smegload of NPCs in the game, and when you're playing -- or at least, when I'm playing -- your attention tends to be hyperfocused on the mission at hand, not this one guy you saw in a cutscene 2 expansions ago. :)
Lyna's speech gets me every time, no matter how many times I've watched that scene. Her voice actress is so damn good.

Stop saying sorry for rewarding us with your content. :D
let's cry together
