Thanks, that was great to watch. It’s not often you get the opportunity to see an exhibition like that in Australia. I was a bit confused but; at 12:22 it looks like Ramses’ mummy was stolen, but around 13.15 it’s back. Do you know the story there?
Hi Arthur and thank you for watching 😊 - You're right! Yes, Ramses II sarcophagus has an unusual history and was moved multiple times, as robbery of tombs was becoming widespread. His tomb was looted. He was buried in a gold coffin (which was stolen in antiquity), placed in an inner alabaster sarcophagus (the one found smashed to pieces in his tomb - fragments were found during restoration work performed in his tomb in the 1990s) and then in a larger granite sarcophagus, which was pillaged 200 years later. In this museum exhibit, it was told that the priests deliberately moved him into a 'non flashy' (but excellent quality) wooden coffin to disguise the fact it was the Pharoah in order to avoid being pillaged. The markings on the front (3 texts) were stamped onto the wooden sarcophagus which detailed the movement history, which Egyptologists call 'dockets', that list the contents of a coffin too. This is why we now have his mummy, as looters passed it by and took the shiny things. You may be interested in reading a wonderful summary of his movement and the process of 'hiding' in this article here: arce.org/coffin-ramesses-ii/#:~:text=Though%20stripped%20of%20its%20original,Bahari%20(TT320)%20in%201881 🙂 Hope you are well and have a great week ahead!
Thank you for watching and leaving your comment - this is a great little info piece I was unaware of! The history is so interesting! I hope you are well and have a wonderful week 😊

He became king in August. Good time for a sun king to be crowned.
