      My definition of don't feel like cooking is throwing shh in the oven and calling it a day. XD Today I made a camembert with caramelised onions and paprika sandwich for lunch. The onions was leftovers from dinner last week. And all I did was throw everything in the toaster oven. There's heat but I didn't have to watch anything and all I needed to really wash was the knife to cut the cheese

    Most Middle Eastern grocery stores sell kofta mix, which is a ground beef/lamb mix that already has all the spices and herbs in it. That would save a lot of time for when you don't feel like doing a lot of prep, all you would have to do is mix in the feta.

      @@nomi4582 Every household seems to have their own blend of spices they like along with salt and pepper. The main spices you're likely to see in some combination or all are: cumin, coriander, allspice, paprika, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. Some people use sumac, cayenne and/or Aleppo pepper as well. For herbs it's usually garlic, onion and for the green herbs parsley and cilantro, although it's not unusual to add a bit of mint and/or dill as well.

      No I agree cause it’s region-specific and someone said this is an Egyptian dish. Well what is usually used in Egyptian cuisine? I don’t know.
      For instance, you’re not gonna find cumin and turmeric or paprika in Japanese food. But you will find soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, salt, fish stock, etc

    • @kensmith2829
      @kensmith2829 26 дней назад +48

      @@lucieirl Point is, it's not at all difficult to write down the ingredients to a dish. It's called a recipe. We've been writing them down for thousands of years. And the spices you use entirely alter the taste of the recipe.
      Sure, someone can run around and do research and find similar recipes which have comparable spices to use, but then the question remains...what is the point of this content? What value does it bring the viewer.

      Western cultures today often spend very little time cooking. In many other cultures, "cooking" means many hours of work. If you have ever been a guest in an Arab/Indian/Souteast Asian/etc. household you will know what I mean, they like to prepare huge spreads of food with various dishes at the same time. 30 min of cooking is almost nothing for them.

    A thing I don't like that cooking influencers do is say that a certain meal is made when they don't feel like cooking, yet still have a meal that takes longer than 10 minutes to make. The recipes look amazing and everything, but it clearly isn't a lazy meal. This still uses a many items in the kitchen that will need to be cleaned. This still takes a long time to prepare and has ingredients that may not always be in your kitchen (feta for example). It's a good meal just not a lazy one.

      If you are of Middle-Eastern background then this meal is indeed considered a "lazy" day meal. So many of our Middle-Eastern dishes are quite time consuming to prepare, we have stuffed and rolled everything🤣, dishes that require homemade dough, slow-cooked meats, multilayered rice/veg dishes, and the list goes on and on! So if I get to stuff pre-ground meat into some store-bought pitas then I would feel like I did nothing compared to all our other ethnic dishes! 🤣

      @@alur2005techso true. I’m not Arab but am Muslim so have a bit of experience eating homemade middle eastern foods. This is a simple meal for them. I got invited for breakfast before while we were going to be fasting. I can’t remember how many side dishes were made. There was homemade hummus, ful, meat, spinach and cheese fatayer, tabouleh, dates stuffed with cream cheese, and many other side dishes that I can’t remember as it’s been years. Meanwhile I would’ve been happy with just one of those things for breakfast. I’m sure she did extra because of having guests, but I’ve seen it so many times it can’t be exaggerated that much.
