Hi
I see so many guitar body blanks and necks, great work Sir and thank you for sharing.
Do you use a metal detector to find out if an unknown nail is in a piece of timber
Just a suggestion maybe a metal detector hand wand

I'm 59 years old. Been working with wood since I was a teenager. I've never seen a prettier piece of timber. I just keep backing the video up and watching it over and over.
Well said!
Wood porn!!
I'm 63 3/4 yrs old, working with wood since teenage years, and one look made me want to drive from S. Oklahoma to buy that wood. It is outstanding, possibly a once-in-a-lifetime log. It's worthy of a good finish and displayed as is. I'd consider it above some fine artwork.
That one is a beauty! So silly that this is the fantastic stuff skipped by many because it's not a "veneer" log. I used to drag all the walnut from my friends tree service to the mill. At the time he didn't even use it as firewood. Got many beautiful slabs that way.
Kind Sirs, I share the passion y' all have for how beautiful that walnut is. I'm an aspiring wood worker for now. I've got the tools, just not the time. Full time work pays the bills
No matter how hard humans try ,they can never match the art and beauty of mother nature. All we can do is stand back and wonder.
Stand back and recognize the perfect symmetry of Gods creation!
And God is in control of MN I edit all my own vids. But there is no editing to the work of Mn and The Good Lord. Great point Tim. AC
AMEN SIR, totally agree and Nathan Elliott exposes it to the WORLD and does it and shares it with his legendary videos that have truly brought this amazing experience to life, truly has been an honor following him and learning from him.
@@texasjetman yessir Brian. I saw myself when I have time. I sawed a small black walnut that I enjoyed immensely a few weeks ago
my FATHER made that!
Fools will stand in some fancy gallery and ooh and ahh over some painting of splotched paint on a canvass as if some genius painted it . No artist could ever capture the beauty of God's mastery in that slab of walnut , absolutely beautiful . Thanks for sharing , God bless .
Simple word AMEN

Your choice of musical track in the editing the segment reveals the esthetic sensitivities of your Soul for all to experience.
Can't hide behind the beard anymore.
thank you
Oh yes, it was timely and most beautiful ! Kudos, friend !
I so agree with the first statement! I felt myself engulfed in a calmness. Wow!
A perfect choice for the majesty of the wood, certainly.
That was pretty. I would have put some assponys or primus tune, and ruined the video 😹
Tough, gentle woodworking man who loves cats and soulful piano music. There's hope for the world yet.
😎😎👍
anybody else say wow that was over too quickly? time flies in heaven
Boy I hope there's no such thing as "time" in heaven. 😆
Slabs like these are hundreds of years in the making,, just to get to see this is a great honor.
That is one of the most beautiful pieces of Walnut I ever saw,.. Dammmmmm.
Plane that last piece, seal it and hang it somewhere so that all the world can see it, but it's protected from the elements. Astounding curls, triple crotch figuring, and I would consider it a priceless piece of wood. God has his ways to making us stand in awe, shaking our heads on how such a drab log could hold so much black gold within the bark.
I was the Purchasing Agent for a Furniture company and came up with the idea of using a metal detector on our hardwood. Saved Optimizer Blades.
Ive NEVER seen a more BEAUTIFUL 3 slabs of lumber. Thank YOU for sharing. I'm almost brought to tears.
Glad you enjoyed it
"The soul of a tree".....Thank you Nathan!
agreed
Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament displays His handiwork!!!! Absolutely stunning!!!!
What caught my eye was one of your first cuts that you consider scrap that would be perfect for us wood turners.
I'm not one and even I was thinking that looked like it was halfway to being a neat bowl already.
@@zacharyreichert5035 I felt the same way. I saw it being turned into a slate turkey call though
Who knew that we could wait breathlessly to see what the inside of a log w, and reveal? Beautifully done. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Winner winner, chicken dinner! I've been missing these glorious 8/4 Walnut slabs.
That walnut is just stunning, between the color, grain and figuring...just wow.
Thanks for watching
Has to be the most beautiful black walnut slabs I’ve ever seen.
Wow. That’s gotta be the prettiest Walnut I’ve ever seen. God’s amazing creative work.
The maple was beautiful but the walnut was fantastic. Now all you need is a buyer who appreciates the beauty.
I hope every square inch of those slabs fine good homes with highly skilled woodworkers who know how to best feature such beautiful wood. Heirloom quality wood should be used for future heirlooms, what ever shape or form they take.
If you haven't already, check out Blacktail Studio on RUclips....
I think that every mill like yours needs its mascot cat. They probably bring good luck, too, but are always in the way, ha!
I'm 70+ years old and have seen a lot of black walnut in my time - NEVER anything like this! Mercy Nathan...those slabs are priceless pieces of Nature's art! I restored a hand made 200+ year old kitchen hutch cabinet made out of what I thought was beautiful black walnut [it was], but not near as beautiful or with the same 'character' as those slabs. Stay safe - be well - many blessings.
Ross, I couldn’t have said it better. The most beautiful thing in Nature is Nature itself, and this is a fine example. From one 70+ to another 70+, I wish for you smooth sailing the rest of the way, and one day I might be able to to shake your hand, and Nathan’s as well.
What an absolutely stunning log you had on your mill back then Nathan, it bears watching over & over again. Those slabs would have been worth a fortune I would have thought, you just don't get logs like that very often I would think. Thanks SO much for sharing this beauty with us. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
I enjoy watching your videos too much. This one especially makes me very emotional. Seeing the beauty inside that log reminds me of how much my mother loved the elegance of nature's design.
The only thing you can say is GOD can make something that beautiful! Thanks for showing us Nathan.
I agree with u
Mr Nathan, 👏👏👏👏👏 Thank You for sharing both beautiful souls, appreciate U🍀
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHERE THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF LIVING HISTORY ENDS UP. IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL. GOOD EYE MAN. KEEP IT UP!
Nature is the best artist! So very beautiful!
I never get tired of looking at beautiful black walnut.
Unfortunately all the majestic 300-400+ year old black walnut trees in the surrounding towns around me here in Massachusetts died from disease and had to be taken down 40 years ago, so it's very rare now to see old growth black walnut around here anymore. And when one does become available, people go crazy trying to get their hands on it
The table top and furniture that would make! Wow!
this is one of the best sites on the internet.....I watch it everyday...and I'm a woodworker...!!!! I wake up to wood.!!!!!!!
Each piece just got prettier and prettier!
Wow! That walnut is amazing! It sure would be nice to look into the future and see that triple crotch as a finished piece of furniture! Wow!
My god, the rifle stocks in that log...
What a beautiful tree, let's kill something.
@@notahotshot Sounds like a good plan to me! You are obviously not someone that creates things with wood!
@@notahotshot Just because you have a rifle doesn't mean you kill stuff.
@@Pest789 Correct. I have a couple of high velocity paper punches from the 1940's. One was made by a typewriter company called Remington. It had a walnut stock and peepers (Redfield) installed sometime in the mid 1950's. Perfectly round holes appear in the paper exactly where it is pointed. The other was imported from Russia, spits fire and makes my shoulder hurt after making 15 to 20 randomly placed holes in some paper.
Nope, guitar backs and sides ...
In my perfect world, every table top in the world is made of slabs with epoxy where necessary…every tabled surface! (Said in my voice as “Ron from Parks and rec”)
…. I wrote the above and just finished it before you splashed water on the slab. That is beautiful! I am not always the biggest fan of a lot of curl, but this one cut I’d buy in a heart beat.
That's so beautiful I actually teared up a little gazing at it.
So did I. .just a little
Cabbage is such a good supervisor cat.
Wow, that slab is stunningly beautiful 😍
Oh my oath. I cannot even begin to try and imagine what that 3rd slab of wood is worth. The most beautiful wood I have ever seen. Wow, God is good.
I would love to know what that is worth also. To me it's priceless but I know that can't be
Magnificent !! The sight of it struck me …. Hard. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Many thanks!
Hi Cabbage! Always glad to see a cat.
Hello there!
The .....most.....beautiful wood i have ever seen is "Waterfall Bubbinga". This is very nice too....
That's some of the most beautiful wood I've ever seen
God has put all kinds of beautiful hidden secrets out there just waiting for us to find them. Love your kitty cat.
Thank you - that was a moment of wonder, right there.
You’re probably tired of me saying what an awesome gun stock that would make. In my defense, it would take a very small portion of this beautiful act of nature to make a one of a kind, heirloom, keepsake, jealousy provoking, and piece of functional artwork that every shotgunner would envy!
I can relate since I build custom guns, I'm a Clark too btw.
Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately I took a fall on an snow/ice covered patch while hunting with my Rugar Red Label 50 Year Anniversary 28 Ga Over-under shotgun. It came with a beautiful stock with a bit of crotch figure. That was a good 5 years ago, and I still have not sent it to have the stock replaced. You just can't put any'ol stock on this gun, and I've been hoping to run into just the right piece of wood. Take care.
@@straubdavid9 Sometimes a broken wrist can be repaired in such a way that it is practically impossible to tell it was broken. I've done it. Depends upon the break though.
Just Saying, Years ago we used to use nail pullers such as those when I worked on the railroad in mid 1960s, we removed the lap siding inside cookie box cars and replaced it with new siding.
When I get grain like that and show off the end product, I am sometimes asked "Did you make that"? I just smile and say "Not really, I'm just the lucky guy that polished it".
How do you polish it sir?
@@michiel1362 I am just describing the process, but when surface is finally ready, it is Watco Danish oil plain (no color), sometimes with several coats, wet sanded with 600 grit sanding sponges, or spray lacquer coat of base, and then finish with satin lacquer. Usually avoid high gloss. Take small wood cutoffs of your piece and try different ways, make a note card for each sample, and your knowledge will be available in a wood finish library!
Excellent demonstration of your professional viewpoints.Thank you sir!!!!
A true Master craftsman..
Fabulous photography also!!!
awesome walnut there. so enjoy your choice of strings in the background. appreciate your content Nathan. Thanx
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
That’s some beautiful black walnut. That will make a beautiful anything. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
thanks for watching,
I will get cabbage our of the way so he doesn't get killed lmao 🤣 I love watching this guy.
Outstanding Nathan! That's just breathtaking beauty right there. Nothing better.
ty
Every time I think one of your slabs is the most beautiful I've ever seen, you and Cabbage show me another one even more beautiful. Magnificent !
Nathan - You just can't beat the Amish-designed nail pullers you have from Crescent at 05:45, [at least that's what he always called it. My dad had one for years in in tool chest he acquired from his grandfather. I used it the other day to pull some oddball cut nails out of some stairs I was re-carpeting. Someone whatever nails they had and it was pure misery trying to get them out. This tool did the trick. Glad to see someone else uses them too.
One of the best if not the best set of slabs that has come off of your mill. 💰...
thanks Robert,
What beautiful life in that timber 🙏
That is one beautiful black walnut. Wow
THAT IS AWESOME BEAUTIFUL CHARTER IN THE BOARDS
That is a pretty log! Almost worth turning into veneers so that more people get to enjoy the beauty!
I just hope you haven’t peaked too early, and spend the next 30 years fruitlessly searching for a better one.
That has to be one of if not the prettiest pieces of timber I’ve ever scene. That would make an absolutely gorgeous gun cabinet.
thanks for watching,
thanks for watching,
Few can appreciate the natural beauty of that walnut. Each year of that trees life went into creating a kaleidoscope of pattern only to be found by a true craftsman.
Glad that nail wasn’t more worse than it could have been.
The good Lord bless and keep you safe brother!
I am blinded by the beauty of those slabs. Way to open up a treasure chest.
I don’t understand anyone ever giving you a thumbs down all I can say is you can’t fix stupid even with duct tape, keep u0 the good work my friend
Some nice timber you have there, young man!
A pleasure to watch you work.
Thank you kindly!
One year my dad bought a bunch of used lumber from houses cleared for the new expressway in GR. I spent the summer pulling nails. Filled 2 nail kegs with spikes and lath nails, before I was through. The lumber was used to finish out the upstairs in his house. Got to know a nail puller like that one of yours intimately.😂
Absolutely beautiful artistic nature in the wood.
I'm 65 years young and first started using walnut when I was 16. Wow!
Awesome
I know you've been busy making lumber and building the barn, but watching you bring walnut alive is my favorite part of your channel. This one takes your breath away. Very handsome! Thanks for sharing Nathan!
So, is it weird to have a favorite species of wood? Asking for a friend :)
(Black Walnut!)
I have to say Cabbage the cat stole the show.. LOL!
it looks like god takes extra time on this one. your reaction was awesome by the way
I love watching what you do, thank you for exposing such beauty.
Good Lord that Black Walnut slab is beautiful!
Yes sir
Only our God can create such beauty!
Nice log man.
I am literally weeping from awe since the first splash of water through the piano accompanied ending. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Gun stock material. Just gorgeous.
agreed
Nathan, you should make some videos of what you do what all the beautiful wood in the workshop behind the mill....
I have a guy who sorts cows feet, a gal who breeds sheep, a Doc who pops pimples and now a log cutter dude. Some of the stuff on my watchlists they're really WILD. Ah well,. granddaughter of a guy who owned a lot of forest areas so planks, wood and trees are close to my heart.
Good cat 🐱
I love your cat
This is wild beauty at it's finest......and it's obvious that this is not just work for you but a labor of love. Thanks for sharing and educating us Sir!
I know NOTHING about wood or sawmilling, but my mind says that is very nice looking wood.
Thank you
That tree is a cathedral of long making. Thank you for finding it!
Thanks 👍👍👍
I want to be a sawmiller too, after seeing this "out of this world" piece of timber, keep up the great work!!!!!
What a beautiful piece of wood!
Some of these slabs you could just sand, clear coat or oil and hang on a wall. Great images Brother.
I have two book matched spalted maple slabs on my shop wall that I’m not sure I’ll ever use. Only sanded but they are perfect just how they are 😊
It would be so unique and interesting for a video that follows a product from forest to finish.....just to see the Beauty of His Creation and the Creativeness that He bestowed on Man.
This never gets old! Thank You my friend!
The closeups of the triple crotch slab was like flying a drone down the Grand Canyon!
*- Yup. Best slab you have ever cut, Mr. Nathan Elliott.*
*- What fun!*

That's got guitar tone Wood written all over it!
So relaxing watching the process. The patterns of that wood, just beautiful!
What an Amazing piece of wood ,Incredible , Nobody can beat Mother Nature.
Great lookin' slabs, and Cabbage is a beautiful cat with a nice disposition.
Thanks for watching
That is the prettiest wood I have ever seen !
thanks for watching,
Ha! I learn something handy with every video. You can manually swing the debarker out of the way when changing blades. Thanks !
Thanks buddy
@@OutoftheWoods0623 Maybe I won’t ‘debark’ my head as much in the future!
The spalting on the maple is great, good for knife handles.
