Even the base Macon looks more substantial than some other high end SUV's. For those who value quality and cache but have beer money and not a CEO job on Wall Street or Lombard street, then this vehicle will definitely fit the bill. It gives some of the joy of sporting driving characteristics of the more expensive versions, and looks almost as impressive. Some would even call you smart, by purchasing the base version and the ladies would hardly notice the difference. My color of choice would be black or gray over blue but color choices are in the eyes of the beholder. A good, honest video as always !!

Hi Thomas, first let me thank you for your great reviews, which I enjoy very much (you've improved over time, btw). May I suggest you don't use the adjective "cheap" when talking about cars' prices? "Cheap" would mean "billig" in German, which, as you know, could have a negative connotation, comparable to "minderwertig" (more like "crap"). It is preferable to use "inexpensive" or "affordable", which would translate to "kostengünstig", "preiswert", "erschwinglich".

I can see why the sapphire blue is your favourite colour, when you see it in person it has so much depth to it!
Another great review. Here at altitude in Colorado USA 2500 meters ... for passing those slow trucks on mountain passes I am afraid we need the 6 cyl...wish I could get away with the 4 cyl ..but I can't. That being said, I agree ...this 4 cyl should be just fine for 70% of buyers out there.

I realize this is a very old post, but I beg to differ with the poster's assessment. I live in Evergreen Colorado at 7400 ft and routinely drive various mountain passes. The car is more than adequate to pass on the interstate.

I live in Poland and very bumpy roads is nothing new to me but I didn't realize that in Germany such bumpy roads exist!

The only bumpy roads in Germany are the old Polish roads that Germany conquered but haven't got around yet to fixing! ;-)
Great review Thomas. I recently traded my Macan S for a Macan GTS and am happy I did. The GTS offers a much sportier ride with the Sport and Sport Plus modes activated. Also, the air suspension allows you to lower the chasis of the vehicle , and therefore the center of gravity , which adds to the sporty nature of this beast. Wider tires and sport exhaust also contribute to the spirited driving characteristics of the GTS model. Looks like the base Macan has a lot to offer as well, but I will always be a fan of the GTS trim line . Greetings again from the U.S. and thanks for all your hard work !

Too rough for me in that Macan! You ask about the car? I don't know! It seems every little thing, literally, is an optional extra on a Porsche - expensive! Keep up the good work Thomas and team.

Hi, after seeing your Mecan GTS and the promise of review of the Mecan 4 cyclinder really got me excited and kept checking to see it. Finally it came and honestly I was hoping more on a more discussion of the engine, gas consumption ect. However it was not all that bad but your GTS was better. It seemed more like checking the box.

Beautiful Autumn and very nice review Thomas, like always! I like this car and I only add the Turbo basic wheels, the ones chosen here too, Alcantara standard interior, multi-function steering wheel, panoramic roof cos I like to look at the high buildings when I am beneath! Deletion of model designation and the bigger fuel tank! Not to forget the Bose surround system and dark head and tail lights! :)
I wish if they can make an opaque shade for the panoramic roof instead of this semi-transparent one for the very hot countries!

at 4:00 it's not fake exhausts, it's just oversized tips as seen on many cars.
A bit like Subaru WRC blue.. looks real quick in the footage although that 4-cylinder engine sounds like it's struggling a bit once you start revving it. I do prefer resolved look of Macan over big brother Cayenne.

The rear of the Macan is best in class !
I think the 2.0TSI is very torquey and powerful, even for heavy cars!
But I would rather go for a V6 engine in the Porsche Macan.

Great review once again. Hello from Australia. I ordered my S in sapphire blue with LED lights although 20 inch wheels yesterday. Choosing the colour was due in majour part thanks to this review. Kept the new lip front skid plate, looks more aggressive. S instead of Base mainly due to engine start sound ! Mum of course not so keen on leather interior as Vegan but not much choice. Thanks Thomas !

That is one heavily optioned Macan R4....by my estimation, judging from the visible options, that $47,000 USD Macan has been optioned up to at least $67,000 USD, a price point at which you have to wonder why you do not just go with a Macan S. As to the panoramic roof.....I had one on a Cayenne I recently traded in for a Macan - which also has a panoramic roof. I drove the Cayenne for two years in Arizona, through the (very hot) summer without any issues.

It is nice but just a bit too small for my taste. Probably good for the small streets in Europe. Also good for singles or couples but not good if you need to (ever) use the back seat.

Thomas, did changing the PASM modes really make much difference to the ride quality ? It did not seem to in this review when you were changing modes. Another fantastic review. Keep up the great work ! PS: what camera is used to capture video ? The sharpness of your videos really stand out.

Autogefühl Thanks. I assume that since PASM does not change the actual springs it can only electronically increase the stiffness which would make "comfort" equivalent to standard springs.
I agree with the turn indicator stalk review...feels like a flimsy plastic chopstick when compared to even a golf.
why compare this to a Macan V6 or GTS to this model?? This power obsession with 0-60 sec times sub 4.0 is ridiculous. The 2.0 serves a different purpose. Great fuel economy, build quality, handling, well executed interior. And of course we must always include exhaust sound ... quiet is nice when cruising.

I really enjoy your tests, since you are giving many details as possible. So, there isn't much to say in order to improve your tests. But, one thing I don't like is your interior camera position.
When possible, please position your cam to the sunroof (over middle arm rest I mean). So, we will be able to see the cars interior much better.

I test drove the 4 cylinder the other day and I had to work harder on this car as I am currently driving a BMW 535i. Not sure if I want to spend more on the S or not.

Great review! I'm in Canada and was looking into German sports sedans. Eg S4, C43, and 340i. How would the macan compare against them. Is it a valid option? The macan would probably handle the snow better.

To me the car seemed to have average sound insulation, you were doing 60-70 kph and I could hear tire noise. might have slightly worse insulation than my 5series.

Der Macan ist für mich eine Hass Liebe, ich mag SUV´s gar nicht und der Macan sieht einfach nicht gut aus ABER es ist Porsche und Autos machen können die. Wünschte nur die blieben bei Sportautos aber naja was der VW Konzern halt will.

The steering wheel in German says Glatt leder meaning smooth leather. I would like to know if it is synthetic or from animal skins. If is synthetic that is excellent. If not I'd have to order the car with an alcantara wheel. I prefer animal free cars ( besides the human drivers and our dogs!).

Don't most prefer leather? Natural leathers are more durable, easier to clean, feel luxurious, and more breathable.

First to the practical reasons:
1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
2. they are cold in winter
3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
Now to the environmental reasons:
1. There are productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable part of the body.
2. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals
3. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed?
4. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/

Autogefühl thank you for a very thoughtful response. While we wouldn't agree all that you shared, we can certainly benefit from listening. You always have terrific reviews, and I enjoy them. I am not for cruelty of animals for sure. Are there any car manufacturers that make it a point to humanely harvest the skins of animals? Seems to me, that would be a responsible approach to folks with concerns as yours. However, I wouldn't characterize the killing of an animal as "murder".
Well, all mammals are to 99 % genetically identical like us, so I think most people do underestimate how alike we are. As for the manufacturers, I did a survey once among the manufacturers and no single manufacturer would reveal their source of animal skin - guess why?

Well i d compare the offers see what i can get from the dealer, see which one i can get without animal skin seats and probably have a first leaning towards the x3 since its more comfortable

Can anyone tell me why the 2.0 Macan is much lighter (approx 100kg) than Q5 and it is powered by the same 2.0 T engine from Q5 also it's equipped with PDK but on paper it is slower than Q5 2.0T TFSI ? Q5 is 0.4 seconds faster ( please don't tell Quattro makes such a big difference )

That extra price is not worth it. Also the 43 suspension is too rough. Get a GLC400 or smth. Or a VW Tiguan or BMW X3 or X1

Thanks, We only have GLC250 petrol and 250d here and BMW X3 2.0d , all of them at around 98,000 Euro, but I am looking for something more powerful than these. I like how Macan drive even in 2.0engine. Surprise to know GLC43 too stiff ride even with air suspension ? Macan GTS will cost me 200,000 Euro too.

Thanks Thomas, I watched all of your GLC,Macan and Cayenne reviews . Even you seemed to hesitate to pick one in your video. Actually what I really like is 6 cylinders Diesel, be it on GLC, X3,X5, Macan, or Cayenne. Too bad Porsche do not offer diesel anymore. Now I will wait to see how much power the new 2019 base Macan will have.
