I'm really leaning toward the Macan after years of owning BMW in all it's configurations. I feel Porsche is still more Germanic than BMW, these days with the BMW business model favoring a more American design, in terms of weight, gadgets and comfort over sports agility, handling and sports car fun. The build quality seems to be a little better than BMW as well. Porsche for me, seems to be winning the day.

Great review Thomas. I recently purchased a 2017 Macan GTS to go along with my 2015 Cayman GTS. Without a doubt, these are the finest vehicles I have owned in my lifetime. I really look forward to my daily commute to work in these phenomenal vehicles and enjoy every minute I spend behind the wheel in them. I am a huge fan of the GTS trim level and performance. I never thought I would like the black rims, but they have grown on me and I think they give the vehicles a more exotic and modern appearance. The air suspension, when lowered with the sport plus feature activated provides nothing less than an exceptionally exhilarating ride. But when I feel like driving in a more relaxed manner, the normal setting provides a beautifully smooth yet responsive ride. So in conclusion, I love these amazing vehicles, and Autogefuhl as well. Best wishes from across the pond.

Great and very detailed review. I received my Macan GTS 2 weeks ago and love it. I opted for the Carmine red with interior leather and red stitching. I always drive on Sport +, the wife uses Sport. We don't ever drive non sport, too boring. We love all of our sport cars, this one fits in perfectly. Cheers

Based on your review I bought one! With ALL options except tow-bar, roof rails and ventilated seats. Torque Vectoring & air suspension amazing and as for the 14-way seats, well they don't get any better. Does it drink fuel, just a bit!!!!! Handling, as you said, amazing and can probably keep-up with anything with 4 wheels on a twsiting and winding road. Clearly the acceleration isn't as quick but it's more than enough for most. Great review and very accurate.

Most Macan owners believe they have Torque Vectoring Plus and they don’t. Dealers tell them it does only to realize 99% of Macans don’t have have it on the build sheet - especially in the USA. Right now there is 1 pre-owned Macan for sale in the entire country with it. But it doesn’t have Nav, Connect or Connect Plus. Expensive waste of an option that wears thorough brakes twice as fast. I think they are more fun without the PTV+ and I’ve owned one with and without it. My present GTS doesn’t have it, but it has every other option.

Thomas - A car review more than 15 minutes is like watching a full fledged movie. Thou I love your channel, it is tiring to sit through 30-40 minutes and sometimes 1 hour. You seriously need to cut down like most other car review channels. And at times I am not sure whether its the love of the car or it self obsession of seeing one self on camera that makes you do these long videos. And am sure I am not the only one who feels your reviews are one of the longest or maybe the only channel that does such lengthy videos.

Superb detail in the Review - again. Fantastic format. You've been busy. Many thanks. You ask our opinion? My opinion: just like yours Thomas, I like the exterior rear profile. I like the integrated centre display. And interesting centre console. I prefer a bright, or light coloured interior, giving an airy feel to an SUV's spacious interior. I agree with Thomas's views about AEB. Superb sound this car makes. Performance impressive: on Thomas's autobahn section, this Macan did 80-200 km/h in approx 14 sec. In your recent Tiguan 240ps Review, Tiguan did 80-200 km/h in approx 25 sec! However, Macan is typically "very expensive-Porsche". And we'll also have to wait for the new Q3, and new Q5 (and new X3)... I also agree with Thomas that a "full-spec" Tiguan surprisingly represents good value compared with these cars, and has all the equipment... (I guess, normally you don't compare a Porsche with a VW, but it was mentioned...!).
I love those buttons, feels like I'm in the jet fighter :D

A very thorough review, thank you for taking the time to make this very useful video. My wife test drove the Macan GTS this week and its a very capable solid car indeed, the car was extremely comfortable and as expected the handling was superior to both the BMW and the Mercedes equivalents we have driven. The only gripe my wife had was the rear view Mirror as per the reviewers comments. I would also add that because the car is so planted and even with the sports exhaust switched on, it seemed impossible to tell how fast you were actually going.
If you ever get the opportunity would it be possible to review the Macan Turbo ?

Dark rims for dark colors makes more sense, as it gives the car a more stealthier and uniform design, imo. Contrasting colors work fine for the smaller items such as brake calipers.

Great review of the GTS......I have the macan s petrol 3l bi-turbo and am thinking of getting the GTS.....the macan is my first Porsche and I have never driven a car and felt so safe and exhilarated by the drive at the same time......especially now having completed the Porsche experience day at Silverstone a couple of months ago to see actually what it is capable of. Don't use the sports mode much since on UK roads and its 'plenty' in 'normal' mode with the PASM which is brilliant. I've built a GTS online and will see what the transition figure might be.....!!

Nice And comprehensive review as usual. I'm loving my GTS, so I agree with your conclusions. A couple of points: I don't think the car you tested had the optional insulating glass; it's just that the cabin is that quiet in the Macan (a bit too quiet, perhaps). The standard 8-way GTS seats are snug, but you can equip the car with the 18-way sport cars that where you can open (or close) the side bolsters some more but still maintain the sporty feel, or for more comfort you can even select the 14-way comfort seats that are standard on the Macan S. About how often GTS owners use the Sport button... well, every single day, even if it's just for a couple of minutes; it's just too much fun to pass on it! Great reviews; keep it up.

Couldn't agree more about autonomous emergency braking. All cars should have it, as a last ditch defence against collision.
my mom just got a new glc 4matic, although not as fast as this car, she doesn't need the extra speed or stiffer suspension. Also in my opinion the interior in the glc is far more luxurious than anything else in the segment
I would buy it just because of the outstanding manual controls available for direct choice without having to go through endless menu options! NOTE: when testing a SUV - it should have a bit more driving impressions about the SUV characteristics--- too often the driving part of the review is the same as when evaluating a sedan.
Black wheels are fine but my favorite Porsche offering is Platinum. Not bright but not too dark either.

Porsche always lagged behind in car dashboard design. I seriously dislike this about them. Beautiful looking cars, amazing handling, ugly outdated interiors.
They should speak with some of the Benz guys for their interior design or audi
Is the car on sport setup while driving in the city? The suspension seems very rigid. From the camera movement seems it does not go very well over bumps in the road.
Hello Thomas I've had my Macan S for 2 years now (in Canada) - I was surprised to see the GTS has manual adjustment for the steering wheel position. The 2015 S has electric adjustment. Agree with you - cannot understand why Porsche does not have emergency braking - with ACC it will stop the car if the car in front stops from moving but if the car in front is stationary then "BANG" - no automatic braking.
as for manual steering adjustment: this only applies to Macans without the 14 or 18 way adjustable seats with the memory system.

Something for you guys to consider is put GoPro cameras on the rear bumper so people can see/hear the exhausts of the cars you're reviewing.

I preferred the normal and sometimes in sport mode. Road secure feel is best in a German engineered car. Btw, I feel the Mercedes has the safer secure feel when I sat in my brother's GL. The the seat belt tighten a bit once you have the seat belt on you.
I have the normal mode at most time. I love Porsche brand. I had a couple of 991's. Now I am keeping my 2011 GT3RS for now. Tell me when it is a good time to sell my RS?! Give me your input.

Thanks! We answer more questions than most other channels. And the best way to answer a comparison is to check out both of our reviews of those cars because we give a 50 minute answer each instead of a simple yes or no. I dont talk about my daily drive because i am unbiased and dont care about any brand personal favour. But u know people, some would immediately think i would rate my own cars brand better.

If I'm into fun drives, but not track, and want a 4 door car (not necessarily sedan or CUV) and I have narrowed my choices to M3, C63S AMG or Porsche macan GTS - can argue for each one and which will you pick? Don't have a sports car. But wants a sporty car or sporty luxury car

Dark rims look more sinister in my view which can be a very cool look. Bright wheels look more classy and refined in my view. I prefer to have bright wheels for summer and when I switch to winter tires in winter I have them on black rims. So I get to experience both personalities :-)

regarding that overtake thing at 35:00 - that was your mistake - this lane is for overtaking only. If you are slower - move to the right as rules suggest you. This not your business how fast other drivers goes there - police will take care of that.
Exactly this kind of retarded thinking is the reason why idiots are causing so many accidents with their idiotic drivings. If you knew a sh... about driving on Autobahn you would realise that Thomas was doing a school example of proper driving, he switched to the right lane in the 100Km/h speed limit area because a merging line was coming ahead, and with so high freqency of traffic that merges on the Autobahn from the right side, is always normal to make a preparation and to switch to the left lane to allow traffic to merge more easily. Now what this guy in the VW did is the first class of idiotism.
First he overtakes agressively on the exact point where merging lane meets the Autobahn, and the idiot does it with the Trailer, this configuration of Car & Trailer has maximal 80km/h allowance (there is no 100km/h sticker nowhere to be seen), and the guy was doing well over 120-130km/h on this point.
Second, you can't be SLOWER if you're doing 105Km/h in the are where everybody else is doing 100Km/h in 100km/h zone, and some jerks thinks that speed limit doesn't exists because he can go faster.
Third, it's obvious that you know shit about Autobahn because Left lane is in many cases not for the overtaking only. If you have ever driven on German Autobahns you will see that in many ocassions Autobahns with only two lanes in each directions are so much packed with traffic, so that that all of the traffic in your lane (which is according to you the overtaking lane only) goes much slower than in the right lane. There are days for example, when traffic on the Autobahns that are fully 3+1 (A2,A5,A9) in each directions is so packed with cars on the fast lane, that the traffic goes faster in the remaining middle and right lane than in the fast lane.
Please, do not ever think of driving on Autobahn, at least up 'till you get some reason. Autobahns are anyway full with people with such a poor reasoning, egoistic behaviour and deficit of dick&balls "substituted" with big and long cars. Have a nice day.

At least for US, the macan GTS come with the 20" black spyder wheel, air suspension, PASM, sport exhaust as standard.
