Great review AJ - so...BMW X3 M340i or Macan? You mentioned an intrusive engine noise that would become tiring in everyday driving during the BMW review. How does this compare?
@@TheKennyG64 thanks Roger. I think the x3m40i has a much more lively engine. It had more personality. But then again, a more boisterous personality, like an athletic puppy. The macan s has the ability to feel a more relaxed, like a wiser dog (pretty silly comparisons, i know). Its only when you push it that it feels electrifying. The m40i feels like a party even at lower rpms and speeds. To me, since both these suvs are meant to be performance oriented, the m40i just edges the macan s in terms of sheer driver engagement.. Though the macan is probably a bit better at being more comfortable and at being a more well rounded package... So, yes the m40i is more lively, you can turn that down with the comfort mode, but the macan feels more mature.

Really good review once again! Very good critical point about the back seats and details as the light in the vanity mirrors. Sometimes Porsche and other companies get carried away when they offer options which should be certainly standard at this price range.

Cool review, AJ. Quick question - does the lane keep assist with steering intervention only work in low speed situations (such as traffic jams) or does it work at higher speeds as well?

Excellent video. @10:00 man does that gauge cluster feel old. I had it on a 2012 911 and even then it's not much changed from the 2007 Cayman I had before that. It's almost 12 years old!!!

Are you sure the rear seat leg room is bigger than the X3?

There is no inductive charger aka "Qi". That is the "smartphone compartment in center console for optimized cellular reception and battery-saving operation." Took that directly from the configurator on the Porsche site.

Do you know if the vehicle you test drive had the option “power steering plus”? I think that’s standard on US models but an option in Canada.

My 2017 Macan S is awesome enough. I didn’t see any truly significant improvements in the facelift. The taillight strip reminds me of a Dodge Durango or Some Lincoln models.

sebastian monasterio it's just a facelift for the 2014 model. New model will be coming after 2020

Thanks for the review: my order for the new Macan S has gone through - I should receive it in March '19. Overall, I am pleased, but disappointed that Porsche do not have 'Agate Grey' any more as an option; that they will not allow all-season tyres; that there is no option for 'surface-coated' brake discs (as per the Cayenne); no option to have night vision; no option to have a head-up display; and no option for matrix LED headlights. Still, looking forward to receiving my first ever Porsche !

@@autogefuehl For unlit roads at night, getting dazzled by headlights of approaching cars, you sometimes cannot perceive a hazard in time. It happened to me a few years ago on a narrow country road, nearly hitting an elderly man walking his bicycle on the road with no lights.
wow. I tested a few of those systems, but I cannot really imagine that the small screen could help, I mean u still look at the road, how can u look at the road and the small screen at the same time? Or is it more about that the system is active and does the auto braking better at night then?
@@autogefuehl But it's not available for the Macan, so, if I hit someone or an animal on the road in the dark, there will have been no prior warning possible, and they will have to suffer the consequences of their not having a light. Does the Macan have 'auto braking' ? I have included Adaptive Cruise Control as one of the options, but I don't think that will help (?)

Everything looks good but the rear end. It works with the new Cayenne but doesn't look right on the Macan.

Exterior & interior color?
Nice review but I don't think you should do rear legroom testing, no offense. When watching this one could really think, that the space is adequate. But you are really short and the Macan is actually really cramped in the rear ! Thomas couldn't sit there and neither could I because knee room is not adequate but smaller than in a Golf ...
Are you sure, that they are cooling exhaust gases going to turbine? Because in turbine you need more energy not oxygen, that is relevant to the air, that goes from compressor to engine. Maybe I'm not so great on physics, but I bet, that hot gases has more energy, than cold.
Cooler air means it is condensed or has smaller molecules (if that is the correct word) for a specific volume. So at a specific pressure more air is in the same size area. Picture a box. You can force more colder air into the box than room temperature air when the same psi is used. Therefore, more air into a cylinder means more energy in each cylinder of the engine. This concept has been used in engines for over 100 years. Things shrink when cold & expand when heated: gases, air, human parts (think a male's part, lol), metals, water/ice....
So cooler exhaust gases to the turbo will reduce the temperature of the turbo itself helping to cool the incoming air into & through the turbo to the cylinders. Exhaust gases only spin 1 side of the turbo fan. On the other side of turbo's shaft is a fun being driven that is drawing in & pushing out to the air towards the cylinders. The shaft has a seal at it mid section to separate the hot exhaust side & the cooler intake side.
Thanks for this review with plenty of information! I'd be interested to see the Macan S in direct comparison to the Audi SQ5 TFSI FY Platform: As far as I can see, the facelift Macan S shares the same AUDI engine, but with PDK instead of the ZF-8HP transmission. It uses the old Q5 8R platform. Would be interesting to see them head-to-head (though I believe Audi stopped selling the SQ5 TFSI for whatever reason).

13:10 "Traffic jam assist" - In the UK you cannot use a mobile phone whilst driving a motor vehicle on a road. Even if you are stuck in a traffic jam. Mobile phone use is more dangerous than drink driving. Please don’t advocate for using your phone because the will stop you because you have your face buried in your phone!
Do you have to insert the key in All the Macans?
No you can get keyless entry option but you still need to turn a switch to turn car on whilst key is still in your pocket. Use the key it’s better for security.

@xennex nice try I ride a BMW s1000rr superbike, drive a miata ND Club Sport 2 litre, and daily drive a Lexus NX F sport, so no donkey cars for me. But what we drive and ride is not important it's what's in the heart. Have a blessed week sir :)

Yes agree. We also do a lot of non-German cars, however the German main manufacturers here of course offer more possibilities than the importers. If we had the chance, we would also show way more other cars. Still we have several non-German cars a month

I dont think so. 30 is the slow speed in Germany close to homes, 50 is the general city speed in Germany. VAG cars often have 2 red lines, one at 30, one at 50, maybe also one at 130 which is the recommended autobahn speed
