    The 4 cyl. seems responsive enough for most people except the very die hard enthusiast. One would have to determine if spending thousands more for the 6 cyl. Is really worth it in the U.S. markets where speed limits, even on the highways can be painfully slow. The interior is so much nicer and sportier than in the Q-5. The Q-5 is tuned more for family use as well as it's design cues while the Macan is more sport oriented. I personally like the Macan better than the Q-5 and may get one soon. Good review.

      Bob Herrmann It’s not. It’s the normal stock exhaust. This isn’t the extra cost exhaust system and you can tell because if it is the extra cost exhaust system the exhaust would be a quad exhaust with 4 circles. I know because our Macan has it.

      I‘ve had 2 in my lifetime and the options bloat at Porsche is no joke at all. The options are also basically all that depreciates on them. The smartest shopper, though not the preferred one, is the driver who skips all the vanity options and gets the go-fast stuff. (Get sport-chrono, and an upgraded differential in the cars that offer it, buy the seat heating/cooling ale carte and then move away from the order sheet :-) ). Then they only really get to rob you when you go for service.

    Nobody seems to make a note of the fact that this is the only model in its class that allows you to adjust temperature, fan speed, and vent selection independently for driver and front passenger for the climate control. That's why there are so many buttons on the center console. I'm pretty sure Audi and BMW only allows you to adjust two of the three, but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure it's standard on the base Macan.

    Go for the S at a minimum. I got a Macan Sport 4 cyl as a loaner and the engine is outclassed by everything else about the car. S engine is excellent, especially with a Cobb Accessport tune and PSE. Smooth, powerful, and sonorous.

    • @cbatiau2528
      @cbatiau2528 5 лет назад +4

      I disagree. I find the S engine to be under-whelming, and it's a gas guzzler. The base engine is not that much worse than the S V6 engine, seriously. I did a lot of testing of both before deciding to save my money and buy the base Macan. (And I'm used to driving a 462-hp Porsche, for context.)

      I think that the cheaper wheels look better than the more-expensive wheels in Porsches. They are also cheaper to maintain (the smaller wheels) and get better gas mileage because they weigh less, and they are safer because of higher sidewalls and give better ride quality. I don't get the big-wheels craze at all.

  • @Andrew-zv4fm
    @Andrew-zv4fm 5 лет назад +5

    Great review. I was wondering how the 4 cylinder engine preformed.
    I hope the roomer is wrong or they change their mind. For EVs to be more accepted, we need to change the infrastructure and have quick charging times that is comparable to filling up at a gas station. It might be short sighted for Porsche to make their top selling SUV into an EV. Maybe better for a hybrid.
    Yes SUVs have become the main vehicle for traveling. But that is because the price of gas is somewhat low. Once the price of gas teachings $4 a gallon people will get sedans and small cars.

  •  4 года назад +3

    Why do you need extra 100 hp if base model can do 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. That’s pretty quick for SUV and plenty of power. Are you in a race track?

    This car shows the wisdom of buying a sparsely equipped Porsche, one model up. The S with just a few options would come in under this price and have another 100 hp. Admittedly that is a car one would have to order, not merely pick out from dealer stock though.

    • @jayp398
      @jayp398 Год назад

      Would you get the premium package? Would you get nice red leather heated and ventilated seats? Would you get keyless entry? 19 or 20-inch wheels with hot rims? If so... S is fine. Just 100hp without internal comforts will only enhance pleasure on special outings. For regular fun driving in a city or fairly crowded highway, Base with perks for 15k less seems better than getting hp you are tantalized to use but really can't. Now if you're hauling crap or going up hills, then Yes, S all the way!

  • @cbatiau2528
    @cbatiau2528 5 лет назад +7

    Actually, most 2019 base Macan owners (myself included) find that this vehicle gets 28-30 mpg on the highway (especially with ACC) -- way better than the Macan S gets (low 20s). And the Macan S isn't that much better acceleration-wise than the base Macan, seriously, to warrant the extra expenditure in cost. The base Macan is plenty fast. Better to spend the extra $9k on options like ACC and LCA, or even save money. (Also, FWIW, Porsche recommends not letting the car get over 4000 rpms for the first 2k miles of driving; I see that you have been pushing this loaner car to 5k, 6k, and 7k rpms quite a bit with only around 200 miles on the odometer. That's why I only like to buy new cars.). As for your negative comment about this base Macan not being a "good value", I think you're wrong there, on two counts: (a) I think it's about the best vehicle you can buy for $50k base price (I got mine without the pano roof and paid around $54k after discounts), and (b) Macans are known to hold up value extremely well, for trade-in or re-sale (much better than most other cars in this price range). And, no, Porsche said they will keep the gas version of Macan for some time after introducing both an EV Macan and a PHEV Macan in 2-3 years. And, dude, put some pants on over your pink underwear!

    • @DMCarReviews
      @DMCarReviews 5 лет назад +1

      I can agree with some points, but 54k is a harsh price tag. That is XC60 T8 territory after rebates. The pink underwear 🤦‍♂️😂😂

There was a car called Touareg Hybrid, 380 hp, quicker 0-60, 21/23 mpg, more interior room, more cargo room, 7700lbs towing capacity, on the more premium platform of the VW-Audi family, and costs the same when new after dealer premium on the Macan and dealer discounts on the Touareg...

    Please use "premium", that premium increases a typical 15K a year cost by $450 (750 gallons x additional 60 cents per gallon) , so does one need to spend additional $40/month for a 248HP vehicle? It's not like people just forget to use premium gas, but they don't like spending extra money for a relatively low HP vehicles. (Of course, diesel vehicle with two times the mpg and price comparable to regular gas would take care of this extra gas expense.)

    I prefer putting the dollars in upgrading the base model instead of adding horsepower with the “S” model.. The only difference is performance vs comfort and appearance. A bunch of options (larger wheels, keyless entry, leather, 14 way seats etc.) can be purchased for what Porsche charges just to add horsepower that most people won’t use in their daily drive. Remember that paying those extra thousand of dollars only gives you the extra horsepower. Any and all options are additional dollars.

I thought back in the day you weren't supposed to run Quattro/synchro cars with staggered wheels, but that was a while ago so I'm guessing this isn't running a torsen center diff

  • @caglioso

    I don’t care that it’s a “base” model, a company like Porsche shouldn’t even offer this or any of its other vehicles with the 2.0T set up from the A4. No reason to get this base model over one of the cheaper VAG models except for the badge.

      Why are they offering an SUV at all, by that logic? You think these cars hold a candle to 2 doors for the rush? S owners delude themselves if they think their extra 100hp suddenly gives them a race track feel.

      Tim but that makes so little sense. My old BMW N54 3.0 300hp/300lbft gives 17/25. Even after tunning it to stage 2 (380hp/420lbft), it didn’t sacrifice the efficiency much. Does Porsche 2.0 feels so good and torque? But anyway, even if so, the numbers look horribly mismatched

      If you're not going to drive the Macan as it's meant to be driven then it makes sense to buy the SQ5. However, I think the Porsche is much better looking. I live in the Philly suburbs and see, maybe, one Macan a day. The Audi is all over the place. I would be very interested in the Alfa Stelvio, but the tech is far behind its competitors. I don't believe they'll ever catch up.
