A very good and fair review of the game. Thanks for the shoutout of our Killer App Mod. 🙂
The current version of the mod actually reduces the fall damage. It's even worse in the vanilla version of the game. But the next version will reduce the fall damage further, as I don't think we went far enough. We've been working on a v1.2 update to the mod since the last release (current is v1.1a), and you can see the progress on our RUclips channel. We should have another progress update video some time in the next couple of months.

I played this game back when it came out in 2003 and thought it was SO GOOD, I considered it the unofficial sequel to the original TRON movie! One of the best PC games I ever played. And he is correct, Disney has no idea what they have with this franchise. If it was just handled correctly, it could easily be a huge hit.

Don't think people should blame Disney, but the general public just wasn't into Tron. More of a cult following type thing...one I'm proud to b a part of

Thank you for saying this since Tron Legacy isnt the sequel since it borrows if not tries to oneup Tron 2.0 by copying and pasting the original Tron beat by beat.
When I do an analysis and review of Tron Legacy, I would like to credit this review and some others for how Tron 2.0 is officially the "true" sequel of Tron more than Tron Legacy was.
      Thanks.

You may not like the music, but it introduced something revolutionary: the music are chunks and are randomised and when you go into battle, it switches to a different music list with battle music.

I played this game back in 2009 or so and absolutely loved it. Fantastic game. The FPS gameplay mixed with RPG elements was so good. After beating the game I needed more. So I found and played through the User Error 1 and 2 expansion pacs which were fun as well. Great work by all those involved.

This was one of those games that just blew me away with its presentation and graphics. Very few games set themselves apart so much (Mario Odyssey, Alien Isolation)

I've been replaying it on the original Xbox at 1080, and whilst it doesn't look anywhere near as good as on PC I think the visuals are amazing. They really nailed the world of Tron much more than the muted blue and orange for the Tron Legacy film. This is one of the best looking games ever made ( but then again, I love Tron).
There are two things I don't like about the game, one is the insta death from falling... turns it into a quick save fest, and the camera shake from the green enemies. Bit of a nightmare, but other than that it's great. Also good to hear Wendy Carlos inspired music.

I played this game years before I ever saw the movies. I got reverse nostalgia, reminiscing about the game when I first watched the original movie. I don't think the movies ever mattered to me before I played the game, because there's so much more depth to the game. And you're right about the awe inspiring visuals. The immersion was flawless. I love it when you play a game that actually makes you feel like you're in that world.

As someone who was born in 2000, I loved watching Tron. I saw it a few years ago with my dad who saw it back in the 80s, but I never really appreciated it until watching it again a couple months ago, and since then I've caught the the gridbug for more Tron content, so I've been playing through 2.0 and loving it. Though it is hard at some points.

There is a God Mode actually. If you are playing on PC, hitting the "t" key brings up the talk screen and you can type "mpgod" to turn on god mode. There are other various cheats that can be used if you are really struggling with a particular level.

I love this game, I still have it and every once in a while I'll install it and use a bit of software so I can use a PS joypad on the PC, I was pretty gutted that when the 2nd Tron film came out that there was no mention of any of the characters here, I always wanted to see if Jet would meet Sam or something like that.
I totally agree with you about Disney not realizing what a treasure they have on there hands here, I really thought it was going to take off when they released the 4 Tron 2.0 action figures and the animated series Tron uprising but sadly that came to an end way too soon.
Did anybody read the Tron 2.0 comics where Jet has a mental breakdown after leaving the grid..? it was such a strange comics series.

Enjoyed your review. I've played this through a number of times. The glow effect looks MUCH better on a CRT (that's a desktop filling, vacuum tube monitor for you younsters :). Excellent game. You asked about other games for retro review. How about Descent II & 3? Both have significant mods with bug fixes and expansions. Other than Star Wars Jedi Outcast then Academy and Jane's Longbow Apache 2, the Descent series are the games I go back to most.

Its a hidden gen on a powermac. Back in 2003 I was playing Tron 2.0 on a pc with a nvidia geforce 4mx, now on a powermac G5 with a radeon x1900. On mac the game run up to 2k.
Did you noticed ? The health station sound the same as the one in the original half-life. Same sound effect 😃

I still have my Tron 2.0 CD but that quit working years ago. It has some dodgy copy protection on it that used errors on the disk as part of the verification. I was happy to purchase it from GOG when it was available. The DS Tron 2.0 game was pretty good, too (it was actually called Killer App). It had some mini-games I wish I could play on my phone today.

Whilst I was not fanatic about the world of Tron I certainly enjoyed it - but this game really took me by suprise in the early 2000s. I played through on PC and really liked it - not just for it's looks and great music and SFX. For some reason I even got it on Xbox on the cheap but never got round to playing through it in the end, I hear it's a bit of a downgrade while adding nothing.
Instead think I'll have another PC playthrough after checking out this community mod which I presume works fine on the disk version?

Still have the original disc's and manual. Wife made me toss out all the original boxes to my games from this era...and regretted listening. At any rate, beautiful looking game. Light cycles certainly the highlight. Was never a fan of the jumping puzzles..which was why I never played to the end when they got devilishly difficult.

Didnt this game influence Tron Legacy? I understood they borrowed from this movie many ideas. Could be wrong.

People are FAAAAR too harsh on tron and its sequel. It's a shame too bc these people judging them, aren't even judging them correctly. The original and its sequel are complete masterpieces all the way through and through. A majority hate the first one bc of the soundtrack even though it fits better than it would have with a daftpunk track and then with legacy, the majority hated it because the story got "bland" or "stale" towards the end when it frankly never got stale or boring once. I swear these people only have one set path of how a movie should go, and if a movie doesn't follow that it fails in their minds. Thats not only extremely disrespectful, but its also pretty immature for a movie critic.
