    with all those shelves it looks like more a underground storage area for canned goods, fruits and,roots and the likes.
    While indeed a storm does not last for more than an hour or two,there should be at least a place to eat something and to sit down.
    Meaning a table and chairs.

    • @TeeHeish
      @TeeHeish 3 месяца назад +6

      Shipping containers are not meant to be buried and have significant weight/pressure coming down on it from above and the side. The strength in a shipping container is in its four corners and its ability to be stacked not from its walls in general. A shipping container underground would need significant counter supports added to the structure to resist the force of the earth on it among other improvements.

    basic wood construction with tar paper. a structure like that doesn't last a lifetime above ground, I'm a builder my entire life. Southern yellow pine is a very strong wood, but it doesn't have any real lasting benefits when wet or covered with soil. Even 'treated' green wood will eventually rot. Maybe it's different in Alaska, burying wood, I don't know? Somehow, I think it'd be a lot less labor to use concrete blocks or poured concrete forms. sealing all the joints, guarantee it would last a lifetime. Nice build though, fun to watch, it would make a very nice shed...very sturdy. 🤗👍

    Each local shelter must be adapted to local characteristics. The shelter in the film is more like an emergency storage warehouse than a living space. At least in the tropical monsoon climate area where I live, if such a space is buried underground, it is very likely to become an underground tank filled with water after a heavy rain.
