This did bring back memories for me Nick and made me laugh. In the late 90's, my friend and I holidayed in Corfu and we hired a boat for a day. We had a couple of ladies with us and found a secluded cove, so I asked my friend to drop the anchor in the water, so he did. We all swam off the boat and I noticed the boat was slowly drifting towards some rocks, so I just checked with my friend that he had dropped the anchor - he had thrown the whole thing in the water, rope and all, without tying it off, so the anchor and rope were at the bottom of the bay and the boat was unsecured. We had to dive down to retrieve it. 20+ years on, we still laugh about that. What a plonker!!
Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you Nick! Always enjoy your videos, especially the ones like this where you're out on the water having fun!
What an super spot to anchor and the perfect boat for the job. Our boat is in Menorca but we started motor boating just down the coast in Plymouth, but rarely got further east than Dartmouth. Something I learned about anchoring is that most depth sounders are set up to read the depth under your lowest point, ie your propeller which is probably about a metre below the surface. So if your depth sounder reads 4 metres the actual depth is 5 metres which of course affects the amount of chain you need to let out. You calculated this using a multiplication of 3 which is fine if anchoring for lunch remaining on board, but if you were stopping overnight I would multiply by 4. I love your boat reviews and think this series about how to go boating shows that the dream can become a reality. Carry on the good work. John Parker

Jamie Speight: without stealing Nick’s thunder and his info for the forthcoming video, just a few figures from my experience. Budget 10% of the vessel’s purchase price for parking (mooring and Drystack fees in boating parlance). Fuel and insurance - a whole video on that. Safety kit and consumables. As a Norwegian I appreciate your naming rivers and towns around the coast but also by canal boating but are totally lost when it comes to understanding where on this British planet you are.
I also love when you walk the marina areas but rather like time to watch all the boats than the pontoons maybe. I grew up with boat life in Norway and misses it all here in Manchester, so whatever floating on water is interesting on a sunny day and all the great “boat-people” we meet. We are a special breed I think, trying to help as a great attitude and thanks to the both of you and if possible I wanted to ask about your opinions when it comes to my next boat.
Thank you
Asle
What would be the average cos per year owning a boat of this size?
Planning a video on this very subject!
Sorry I just asked the same question then I read your comment.
Cheers Jamie & Nick.
@@AQUAHOLIC Great idea for a video!
Then the one everyone overlooks, or might try to, regular SERVICING! if it breaks down at sea the RNLI are for saving lives not to be the RAC or AA.
That’s not just one video....
Nice boat Nick, we’re out tomorrow and just waiting for the Solent restaurants and pubs to open.
Please do let us know running costs but also address the age old saying which we have all heard? “There are only two happy days of boat ownership....the day you buy it and the day you sell it”. Is that really true?
In the first week of basic training for the RN we learned "There's Red Port Left in the bottle", it's an easy way to remember Port/Red STBD/Green.
Lovely wee boat that and a brilliant channel. Many thanks for your efforts, Sir.
Thanks Nick. I think this is the best video on the channel yet.
Wow, thanks!
rarely do youtube videos make me smile from joy anymore but this man has pulled it off. Thank you so much your channel is so wholesome. I'll invite you onto my galeon 500 fly when I purchase it. Again thank you for the amazing videos.
Thanks for watching them! 😃
Hi love your vids keep up the amazing work
Thanks! Will do!
Very good to see you back out on the water Nick.
Nice info on how it works.
Commenting 25 minutes after you published your video (I just happened to log into RUclips a few seconds after you posted)
Smugglers Blues 2 is a wonderful boat and the pair of you seem to really enjoy your life afloat
Nice mug 😂 but sandwiches on a paddle board isn't that much fun!
Thanks for sharing your boating life with us.
Thanks for watching! :)
Dont know how i came across this channel as i hate boats as i always end up being seasick but im addicted to it love watching your vids on all the tours im really happy you get pleasure from doing the thing you love Boating keep it up fella
underrated channel
This is soooo awesome!!!!!! Love these kind of videos mixed in with your regular reviews - makes me want a boat even more! Thanks for uploading!
Glad you like them!
The joy of owning a super yacht , beats my duck in the bath 😁 , great video as always 👍
Not quite a superyacht, but thanks! :)
The mix between yachting and everyday boating will make your channel the most important boating channel on youtube. I bet 1 million sub in 3-5 years. BR from Stockholm.
Here's hoping! :)
I see all you got was a Miele cap...😳
Smugglers is a fine looking boat but does the bottom look as clean as the top?
Those pontoons designed to lift the boat up out of the water look like a terrific idea! CHEERS from Canada
Nick, lovely video, thank you for sharing. And you are right: nice hat. Question: whenever we used to take out my gradads Draco 1700, we had to lift the engine cover to air out the engine. Is that a thing of the past, nowadays? Greetings from Switzerland - Oliver
It's a thing with petrol boats (and engineroom blowers), not diesel
Great video, I love these little adventures. You make me feel that I am there with you while I am sat at home recovering from long Covid. Posts like this keep me sane. Thank you for your channel and your happy and positive personality.
Hope you're feeling better soon :)
Great video again. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Hey there The Netherlands! Thank you very much!
Wow Nick. Your choice of sandwiches absolutely superb. Cheese and Marmite, my favourite too.
Just had a look at comment section, Nick has replied to almost every single comment. 👍 Nice
I try :)
I have watched many of your reviews and I so enjoy your enthusiasm and professionalism. Well done!
Glad you like them!
I like how he is looking after the engine. The person who buys Nicks boat in future will know he's got a well loved boat without doubt!
Made a meal of it, really. Not necessary.
Great explanation. Please show more boating steering tips, like docking with a lot of wind, navigation, simple boat maintenance, basic electronics etc.
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Hi Nick and Marianne. So happy to see you back on the water again, this is what boating is all about. Great video as always. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
Hoping u will get to review the coming gulf craft 175 🙏
Hoping to too, if/when I can travel again
@@AQUAHOLIC very nice also pls be safe sir 👍
"A very scruffy way to go boating".....it doesn't get any more pommy than that. Love this guy and this is a great channel.
You have an small boat can you show how to maintain bout how much costs things?
Coming soon!
I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos - so pleasing to see a relaxed presenter, with no annoying tics, full of knowledge and happy to share it.
You are getting me to the point where I want to buy a boat!
After years of my wife saying "I wish you were as interested in boats as you are in cars" all of a sudden she is having to curb my enthusiasm!
I have the time, and the money - I just need to learn to swim...😞
Go for it! You can always wear a lifejacket. 😃
Yes, in America we have “red on right returning”
Fantastic little mini boating series Nick seeing yours and mariane's enjoyment shows people dont need big yachts to have fun.
