    I'm no groomer, but I do have a PWD; this is uncomfortable to watch. Seems like you are moving really fast and aren't very gentle. Dog's in general, ESPECIALLY this breed, are very intuitive and react to a person's energy. I could feel your anxiety throughout the video. As an avid RUclipsr, maybe you could focus on the actual grooming and do voice-over after the job is done. Since, in your words, "this isn't a game and one wrong move could seriously injury the groomer or the animal."

      This. It was hard for me to even finish the video- very obvious this lady isn't familiar with PWD's!

      As I’ve said earlier in another post, we are always so careful to make sure that the groomer is well versed with PWDs! I’ve had both curly and wavy haired Porties, and make sure they go to the groomers every 4-6 weeks along with daily brushing . For our current baby, our groomer talks to him, is much more careful and doesn’t treat him like an object, but as an extremely intelligent and sensitive being.

      I felt the same way my portie wouldnt have faired well at all the way she is handling her! Her panting front he start and the barking the dog is trying to tell her I she is stressed! Horrible groomer

    This was a disturbing video. Im surprised that you posted it. It appears that your frustration with the owner is justified, but not the dog.
    I’m not sure why you didn’t either take a break or change to a different method .... even cutting out some of the knots with scissors might have resolved the pain that the dog was in.
    Honestly, if i took my dog to you and saw this, i would be looking for an different groomer.

  • @suekessler3327
    @suekessler3327 5 лет назад +47

    Study the PWD trims, they are supposed to have the ears trimmed to the leather and the last 1/3 of the tail left natural. Maybe if you slowed down and weren't so aggressive, she would calm down.

    • @cb9369
      @cb9369 4 года назад +1

      The ears were matted to the leather. Hard to work out as matted as this dog's hair was on the ears.

  • @sofieskinkegiraf6153

    To me this looks like a very anxious and scared dog. She is not mean or a ''diva'' as someone mentioned in the comment section. She doesn't know why she has to be in there getting clipped with a device that is very loud to her ears, plus she doesn't now how long she will be in there. It could be an eternity. She doesn't know that and she is just looking to get some release or to escape from the situation. Also scared dogs can bite at you if they feel cornered or feel like there are no other way of getting out of the situation.
    I don't know how many times she has been to the groomer before this video was filmed but if she hasn't been there a lot of times, she might not have gotten into the routine yet. And this is not your fault, but it's the owner's fault for not getting her used to grooming with clippers or even just the sound of them, and for not taking care of maggies coat, so she didn't have to go to the groomer in the first place( at least to get the matting ''fixed'').
    This is just my perspective on this. There's a huge difference between a dog who is scared and anxious and a dog who is aggressive or ''mean'' as you call it.

    I recognize that glass-shattering screech! I watched a lot of grooming videos before getting my first PWD and spent hours training grooming manners. He doesn’t like getting groomed, but he lies flat for brushing and nearly goes to sleep. The only time I ever got fussing like that, my blades were dull and pulling the hair instead of cutting it.

    I don’t understand why people don’t just brush their dogs. People want dogs to bad, but when they get them, they refuse to take care of them properly. I have a cockapoo puppy and I make sure I brush her often. I don’t want her to go through all that pain and discomfort.

    • @WolfieChan9a
      @WolfieChan9a 6 лет назад +5

      The problem I've come up against most commonly when pet parent(s) don't brush the dog is that they got themselves a dog that "doesn't shed" and don't realize that "not shedding" doesn't mean that the dog doesn't change its fur and that they are the ones that need to "shed" the dog. This mind set is what most commonly causes tangled Maltese and similar dogs to come knocking on the saloon doors. Also other issue is that owners get a dog without doing any kind of research about the breed before hand

    • @myfavoritegroomer

      I don't understand why, especially with breeders, if you are selling a particular breed they are not offering training.

    • @AshCinder
      @AshCinder 5 лет назад +2

      I have a standard poodle but she is cut tight and doesn’t run in mud and lakes, but we still go over her fur and make sure it’s tangle freed with no stuff stuck in it that could cause an issue.
      However our family are planning to get a Portuguese Water Dog and we live near a small river and they love Water so we know we will have to be more rigorous with brushing, I just need to research which brushes will work best (and ask the breeder) but I love looking after our current dogs fur. I don’t understand why people shy away from it and just end up causing their dog more pain in the end.

    I'm a pet groomer and I'm not impressed with her emotional attitude toward the dog. If you want a pet to cooperate (no matter what condition their coat is in ) you have to develop a bond and trust with them. I never see you talk gently, comfort, or pet the dog. Dogs know on an intuitive level if you're just there to do a job, or if you care about them or not. Most groomers are always in a rush to get their quota done, and that's stressful to the groomer and the dog.

    She's reacting this way because she's not used to being groomed. LAZY owner!! I go through the coat with my fingers before bathing and check for knots and mats. Then dematt with tool and cut out the long tangled mats with scissors. no clippers, this way I can work quietly whilst reassuring the dog with touch, Takes half an hour longer but the session isn't as tense. I keep clippers to a minimum, I do a lot more scissoring on legs, paws and head . Also on labradoodles and soft curly hair types, I don't want to change the hair structure by clipping close to the body. It's interesting to see you work, I love what you do :D x

    would never take my dog to you, you would freak her out with your dismissive aggression. Doesn't matter how good you are with clippers if you don't know how to handle a dog. Talking to her won't make her understand??? Well, not if you keep using a hard tone and don't even try to comfort her. I'm not surprised you're wary of bites when you're unable to give a dog some reassurance.

  • @TubeMeChannel
    @TubeMeChannel 3 года назад +4

    you don't like or love dogs. Not friendly, afraid that the dog bites, no comfort at all, you are brute and hard. Don't you see that the dog is afraid? Please stop clipping dogs.
    What I do with a barking dog? Talk softly, no shouting. Make her at ease, tell her that it's ok etc. You do the opposite. Dog tells you please stop you are way too brute, harsh, not friendly. These dogs are very very sensitive. Not suitable for a person like you.
    and no they don't bite. But if I was there as a dog I would

    As for this breed
    Is it possible to do this on your own at home?
    Like comb and brush, and trim the hair? And do it more often so the dog is getting used to it and doesn't react like the one in the video.
    I am planning on getting a dog and this breed is in top 2 so far.
    But I dont want to have those problems. So planning on brushing and combing daily, is good right? And trimming hair on my own or going to a groomer.
    Btw is it possible for the owner to stay while a professional grooms? So the owner could calm the dog like David did?

  • @rewghob

    In the last video, she didn't quite seem to understand the gravity of the situation and seemed dismissive of the issue. She's lucky Dede will have them back. Why get these curly haired breeds and then not groom? Curly hair requires more delicate care than straight, just like with us humans.

    If you talked real nice to the dog instead of yelling I think they would respond to you better. Talk pretty girl your such a good girl. I sometimes I have yell loud and say who did this to my baby and then they will let me do whatever I had to do. I have to say it constantly. If she's been coming to you since she was little she should be happy to see you by now. My male pappy-poo loves to see his gromer. He is 13 lbs. 8 years old. My maulti-poo she bites. She's 10. I have to give her a little piece of a happy pill. They won't groom her unless I do. I don't like too. When they were about 2 and 3 years. The groomer was teaching me how to groom them for six week in a row. I bought all the supplies. I use to groom them every month. Then I had an accident and I couldn't groom them any more. I loved it. I sure don't know as much you do. I did know my dogs. I love watching you and I will share your videos when I'm watching them about that's about everyday. Keep making dogs feel good cats to sometime.

    Don't you think David should come back to make things easier. Your not going to train Maggie in one grooming section. Come on now she's really stressed she needs David there. All I ask of my groomer is to not upset my dogs. They are like my children and that's serious to me. I've paid 300 hundred for my maulti-poo. 5lbs. to get groomed. I pay as much as I have to pay for the grommer to be very gentle to both of them. I wouldn't like you to groom my dogs your letting Maggie get to upset. When it all could be over with if David was there sooner. If you would of let David comfort her it would of been a fantastic service all around. Remember they are not humans. If you were to say bad girl in a high pitched voice she would think she did nothing wrong. I can see all the dog are different. One might need more tender love and care then others. That would be called great service if you would give it to the ones that needed it. Your talking about you running a business. Your making money tons of money. Selling the supplies etc. Gromming a dog is nothing but profit. Getting checks from you tube and who ever is paying you to advertise their grooming products and all thats great. I would be more caring to the dogs that need it. To the dogs that don't need the extra attention you got lucky. Don't do everything by oh we are 5 minutes late let's get it done. Thats how accidents happen. One other groomed I knew slit the dogs neck from side to side so he put crazy glue on it and never told the owner. The owner was petting his dog and he started to cry he looked by his neck and he seen the slit. The whole community got his store closed down. Cause he hurt other dogs. Glued an ear back on cause it was an ACCIDENT yea right. That's why we as dog owners have to put some trust in our groomer. Only some trust. I tell everybody check your dog when they come back from the groomer to make sure they are fine. Remember they are not our dogs they are our kids.

    I think if you would’ve been more patient with this dog it would’ve got allot smoother. She clearly was Scared and uncomfortable she even had her tail tucked as you grabbed her legs. Even if you have seen her before she could have had a bad day and I felt bad for her as you just kept yelling at her and forcing her to stand. I bet her parents won’t be back if they see this I sure would not

      Or maybe the parents should help with training the dog and acclimating it?

    Most dogs bark out of being nerveous or just plain don't like it. To have someone to be there to help comfort the dog but I know that can't always happens.

    Poor baby :( I wonder how her mom would feel if her feet felt like that! You guys are so good Dede and David. I wish you were closer! Maybe you can take your mobile grooming on a cross country meet/grooming tour!

    Almost matted? She is matted. Also she is not trained from puppy to adulthood, on the daily grooming routine. So unnecessary if the owners were only trained better.

    Thank you for mentoring face masks. The grooming school I went to did not practice safety. I think masks are important

    It’s not the dog that is difficult - IT HURTS - it’s the dog owner that is to blame. Brush your dog at least a few times a week people!

    I hope people doesn't follow this "technique" Regardless of long-short-medium cut, this person is just rushing too much.
    The passive aggressive comments about the owner wanting certain length? BS.
    How about talking to the dog in a more chilled way, she may not hurt the dog but things could be so much easier. I couldn't finished watching the video to the end.
