  • Tony Adams scored at both ends as Arsenal secured a valuable point.
    As shocking as the pitch at Old Trafford, is the poor crowd of 35,000 with about 5,000 of them being Arsenal fans.
    The game was shown live in England on Sunday 2nd April 1989.

    Loved it when Adams put in that dishevelled appearance for that FA CUP Live Draw back in 1995 after a 4 hour sesh down at The Chequers. What a lad!.

    That was the game, when next morning they put adams on back pages of the newspapers calling tony adams a donkey
    Who has ever been blamed for an own goal, boy did tony adams get some stick in his early years at arsenal in media.

    Also, just to be clear, it was Arsenal who knocked Liverpool “right off their f***ing perch”.

    • @gilwillia
      @gilwillia 3 года назад

      @Flashheart Really? 😂 Well Arsenal were champions in 1989 and 1991 when Liverpool were still great (Liverpool won in 88 and 90, their last for 30 years).
      United won in 1993 so, no, they didn’t knock them off their perch, Arsenal did and to a lesser extent Leeds in 1992. If United had won in 89 and 91 and 92 then maybe they could argue the fact, but they didn’t.
      It was Ferguson’s quote in the 90’s and had nothing to do with total titles and was about ending their dynasty. He was talking shite. Classic United marketing - say it often enough and idiots will believe it.

      @Flashheart Arsenal have been 🚽 a while and have still managed to remain unbeaten against Ya-nited and win 4 FA Cups in 7 years. Hope you enjoyed the game at OT particularly last season.

      arsenal were brought around 1200 to 1500 max until 86-87 season when they were top of table then they filled the scoreboard for the first time. meanwhile utd had been taking thousands everywhere since the 60s.

  • @masstransit2
    @masstransit2 11 лет назад +3

    And ? Nobody filled their grounds in those days unless they were playing top teams or derbies. Evenn the scouse struggle to break high 30's for games against the likes of Oxford etc. This was before the football supporter boom of 1990 [further solidified by the arrival of the PL] and was also at the end of a hit and miss season and live TV DID make a difference those days. I remember for this game having to leave Saturday night due to trains.
    Also notable for Maiorana rampaging down the wing
