I don't know if there was more Loyalty to the colours back then? Ronaldo played for Milan and Inter and Barca/ Madrid, Rooney left Everton at the first opportunity, Gerrard was inches away from signing for Chelsea, Michael Owen played for Lpool and Man U, Ash Cole dumped Arsenal for Chelsea, Abel Xavier played for bother Merseyside clubs, as did Nicky Barmby, Luis Enrique and Figo both played for Madrid and Barca. Seedorf both Milans. Ericsson managed both Roma and Lazio, half of Romas title winning side went to either Juve or Milan.... I don't recall that era of footy being a period of intense loyalty at all tbh. I was however more fun and less bloated than it is now. Was even better in the 90s. Now its not even enjoyable anymore.

It's way more technical now than then. Just the players with the technical abilities stood out more as the game was more physical and you really did have to rely on moments of individual genius to make the difference in a game.

I view footy nowadays the way my dad viewed footy when I was a kid. There's too much money in it and it's become a circus of over the top glitz and glamour. There's so much emphasis on tactics now and cancelling the opposition out it has made the games boring (not a criticism of managers as they're just trying to win games, but as a consumer its boring). None of the players are even remotely interesting and the fact the football is edging ever closer to European leagues and world leagues, the mystique of foreign football has all but faded away. When I was younger only time you got to see Baggio, or Ronaldo play was either in the World Cup or on European nights. And this added to the sense of occasion. Now its just totally boring. All the leagues play the same style too and the winners are literally just the team with the most money.

Today we have Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo that are above 100 with long careers.
    Good players are around 80.
    The average players are 60.
In 2000 we had Ronaldo and Zidane over 100. But Ronaldo got short top-level career because of injuries, defenders were far more rude.
    Good players were around 85.
    Average top-league players were 75.
60 players were in the second league.
