This is the peak of New Wave, 1984.
Some other great ones to get into DD are 'Hungry Like the Wolf", "Rio", "Wild Boys", "A View To A Kill", and "Save A Prayer" - those are all more or less the same era. Later stuff worth looking into are "Notorious", "Ordinary World", "Come Undone", etc.... They even put out music very recently. More than 40 years worth of music is a huge catalogue!

At the point of this video they were arguably the biggest band on the planet. They were put across early on as the next beatles. They were pop and rock and they were also doing a kinda classy fanshion inspired thing like roxy music. They were a huge influence in the 80's.

  • @andre.gorley
    @andre.gorley 2 месяца назад +42

They formed in 1978 in England and they define the 80's. They've sold 100+ million albums with a bunch of #1 all over the world. They have a unique sound and I always thought that bass player John Taylor is one of the best in the business. Their videos were very good and MTV couldn't get enough of these guys. Simon LeBon ( singer ) stated that this song was about walking the fragile line when it comes too having too much fun and wanting to get off the ride, so to speak. These guys must've broken millions of hearts because in the 80's every girl in my high school wanted to... well, you get the idea. Union Of The Snake and New Moon On Monday are 2 songs amongst many that I recommend, both for the music & video.

  • @kittylynnlpn

It was so funny when you put the captions on because honestly with the Duran Duran song it will not help. Lol! I know the words to ever Duran Duran song especially from the '80s and it doesn't help knowing the words. The words never make sense a lot of the time. It's all about the music and the style.. it's from the second British wave is what they call it. The Beatles were the first wave. The second wave was in the '80s and that was Duran Duran, wham, culture club. Etc. So it's British pop I guess is what you can call it. I was living in Germany because of my father being in the Air Force at the time when the British wave was happening. It was happening everywhere even in Germany. I still love Duran Duran as much as ever and I got to see them live in the early 2000s when they did a reunion tour. I still remember all five of their names even though I'm 55 years old and I graduated high school in 87. John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Simon LeBon, Andy Taylor. None of the Taylors were related just to let you know. Lol! They were before New kids on the block. Actually they're still going on. Still touring and still rocking it out. I have their latest album which was I think two years ago. They're just as popular to this old fans as ever. Great reaction is always BP! Keep going! I love all of your channels!

They were so HUGE in the 80's. They were the spearhead of the "New Romantics" genre coming from the UK. And yes, girls went crazy at the point where bassist John Taylor was considered the sexiest man on the planet. No boy band, they are real musicians. Awesome catalog of mega hits in their bag. They had this kind of rivalry with Spandau Ballet but Duran Duran crushed them in terms of sales, public attendance at their shows and worldwide recognition. They were also your favorite 80's top model's favorite band. Often labeled as a teen pop band, truth is their music was quite interesting: dope bass lines, crunchy and heavy guitar riffs, solid drumming from a man who share the same name with Queen's drummer (both Roger Taylor). Some huge hits that come to mind: "Girls on Film", "Rio", "Save a Prayer", "Hungry like the wolf", "Wild Boys", "Ordinary World", "New Moon on monday", "Union of the snake", "Come Undone", "A view to a kill" (James Bond Score)...also I loved "Some Like it hot" and "Get it on (Bang a Gong)" by their side project "The Power Station" featuring Robert Palmer on vocals and Chic's drummer Tony Thompson.

Things is the they didn't stop in the 80s .. The fans of D2 are still going strong! They did have hits in the 90s here in the US as well with Notorious, Ordinary World, Too Much Information, and Come Undone. In 2010 they released Paper Gods which hit the radios in the US as well. However, their success nationally has never ended! They are full of talent. They were the "good boys" of Rock N Roll but mostly because of their clean cut image.

“The Reflex” is indeed a song about self-pleasure. The eponymous “reflex” refers to that moment of joussance that we attempt to bring ourselves as close to as possible for as long as we can before realization-the “danger line” somebody's fooling around with his chances on, in other words.
    Release
The song was released on April 16, 1984 as the eleventh single by the English pop rock band Duran Duran.
    Chart success
"The Reflex" was Duran Duran's first number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching the top on June 23, 1984.
    Album
"The Reflex" was the third and final single from Duran Duran's third studio album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, which was released in 1983.
    Music video
The music video for "The Reflex" was filmed at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario on March 5, 1984. Russell Mulcahy directed the video.

There were basically two styles of music where I went to high school in the late 1980s, hanging out with the boys we'd go straight heavy metal/classic rock. In mixed company when you're hanging with girls you'd throw in stuff like Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, and countless other really good bands that would dominate FM radio Top 5 at 5 type stuff.

Duran Duran was my absolute favorite band! I loved every song they released. Their "A View to a Kill" in the James Bond film topped them off and showed they had made it! Bon, Simon le Bon (using Bond's voice) was the lead singer. Personally, Nick Rhodes left me breathless! Dive deep, Pegasus, dive deep. They are a phenomenal group!

Ok quick lesson in rock history: Late 70’s a new counter-culture started called “New Wave”. At the time most rock stations wouldn’t play this music but then came WLiR, the station that played New Wave non stop. These ARE NOT boy bands. These guys are legit musicians. Boy bands are singing groups that don’t play instruments. By the mid 80’s New Wave was huge. It wasn’t just a style of music, it was more like a way of life. New Wave came with it;s own clothing and hair styles. It was also “freak” friendly, It kinda was responsible for kicking off the more acceptance of lgbtq people in the 90’s.

Yes, boy bands that started in the late 80s like NKOTB, NSync, 98 degrees etc. were invented to try to mimic the success of Duran Duran.
They thought all us teeny-bopper girls just cared about their look. But, D2 ‘s music is much more than just teen pop. They are legit! And don’t get me started on their live performances. Simon Le Bon is an amazing frontman.
Also, Duran Duran basically invented the approach to music videos we see now and were instrumental in making MTV a thing.

I had just graduated high school and Duran Duran epitomized the music scene in the 80s. Take them Blondie Pat Benatar the Go-Gos & you have the pop piece; then you had Queen (crossing decades) as did Fleetwood, Bon Jovi David Bowie & the hair bands and mix it all together in this glorious decade. Also remember that a new channel had just debuted - MTV!
One side note for me I had just discovered what would become I suppose my favorite band overall, which was the Eagles. Little did I know that my favorite song was on the last album that they did for 14 years. However, a brand new style of radio station was available called classic rock. And I was able to sample all of the old catalogs like the Eagles Linda Ronstadt Elton John, Billy Joel, Jackson Browne, Kenny Loggins…. the list just keeps going on and on.

Duran Duran are an English band formed formed in Birmingham in 1978 by singer Stephen Duffy, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist/bassist John Taylor. After several early changes, the band's line-up settled in May 1980 as Rhodes, Taylor, singer Simon Le Bon, guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor.
They are Pop rock, Synth-Pop & New Wave.......
They got their name from the 1968 sci-fi film starring Jane Fonda called (Barbarella: Queen of the Galaxy) there was a character in it when he was asked what his name was he said Duran Duran.....they like the name so much they used it as the group's name. Andy Taylor - guitars, backing vocals (1980-1986, left the band & returned in 2001-2006; Andy also did sessions with the group in 2023)
The next songs you should listen to are
    - Girls on Film (there are 2 versions a censored and uncensored version of this video)
    - Planet Earth
    - Hungry Like the Wolf
    - Save a Prayer
    - Is There Something I Should Know?
    - Union of the Snake
    - New Moon on Monday
    - The Wild Boys
    - Rio
    - A View to a Kill (Theme from the 1985 James Bond film of the same name starring Rodger Moore)
    - Notorious
    - Electric Barbarella
    - Ordinary World
    - Come Undone
    - White Lines (Don't Do It) (a remake of the Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five song)
    - Danse Macabre (cartoon video)
    - Evil Woman (a remake of the ELO song) (this version is more synth pop & doesn't have the catchy electric guitar riff heard in the chorus of the original song) (only has an official lyrics video thats cartoon made from 2024)
(All these songs have official videos)
    PS
Despite 3 Taylors being in the band (Andy, John and Roger), they are not related to each other, and it is just a coincidence.
Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar) formed another group called, The Power Station a British-American 1980s/1990s rock and pop music supergroup originally formed in New York City and London in 1984. It was also made up of singer Robert Palmer & former music group Chic drummer Tony Thompson. Their biggest hits were.....
    - Some Like It Hot
    - Get It On (Bang a Gong) (a remake of the T-Rex hit song)
    They only had 2 albums
Robert Palmer went on to have a big solo career. Palmer, an extremely heavy smoker from his teenage years, died from a heart attack in a Paris hotel room on 26 September 2003 at age 54 R.I.P🥀🌷⚘

At only 27-ish today 🤭🤭🤭, can you believe that I actually tried to go to that exact concert that was recorded for that video. And my mother wouldn't let me go with my best friend because we were only 12 going on 13 and she thought we were gonna get trampled. But then, as a consolation, her mother and my mother said we could go see Michael Jackson, and we looked at each other like. Between these 2 concerts, if you want us to get trampled to death send us to a Michael Jackson's concert and he throws a glove into the audience. We're dead, so we declined. We wanted to live so we didn't go to Michael Jackson. And once again that concert was shot in toronto canada maple leaf gardens. Now, can you believe that they were in their early 20s in that video I actually saw them driving around Toronto the day of that concert. Me, my friend were walking around downtown Toronto and they went by in their limousine with the windows down and we stared at them and they stared at us, I pointed and said "John Taylor" who is the bass player, then some other girl came along and screamed her brains out and the limo took off So that was as close as we got to Duran Duran, but in regards their music. You're really not going to see lyrics that kind of makes sense. It's kind of gonna follow the same theme style as this. That's just how they wrote their music a lot of weird words in place of other words, meaning their song titles and videos artistic style won't really match so expect that more than the traditional straight line crisp word matching video, so you can understand the full story. You'll have to use some brain cells to kind figure out What were they trying to say like how you did with this song But they do have a large catalog. And they are still touring to this day. If you want to go check them out in concert.
