A lot of what is released today, from the mainstream artists, at least, should not even pass as music. It rarely receives any real input from the artists, because the record labels are too afraid to stray from the established norms for fear that the music will not sell. Consequently, we are stuck in this rut of repetitive and forgettable music.
I am a total Duranie. I think this was their biggest hit. They always end their concerts with this song. Still going strong. Saw them a few weeks' ago.
It's good that you listened to this without the video, to appreciate the sound and the lyrics. It is sooo catchy. I was a teen when this came out, and was wary because they were such a teenage girls' band, but you couldn't help going do-dood de-do-do de-do, to this. But now go watch the video, because that is soooo much fun, and such a quintessentially 80s video and a classic.
"Save A Prayer For Me," "Ordinary World," and "Rio" are my all-time favorite masterpiece songs from Duran Duran who I saw in concert in 2006 and the concert was AMAZING!!!
Perfect pop album, every song is gold here, without a doubt one of their best... Duran Duran are one of the best bands ever, still today, Simon's voice is incredible, Nick's keyboards are magical... Big rabbit hole!!!
Duran Duran were the Kings on Mtv back in the early 80's. I was 13 when I discover music and DD was a big part of my journey. Fun Fact, first concert I ever attended was DD at Universal Amphitheatre.
Have U watched the glorious video to this?!Iconic '80s piece of art 'n glamour .The official clip (plus all the album's clips to the songs featured in ) was thrown in a video era that exploded and impacted the '80s culture.
Oh Salvo another band I saw in concert when I lived in Houston. Saw them at the summit which is now oddly a mega church. They did a video for mtv at this concert. This period of the 80s was awesome!!!
This is the first album I ever bought myself! Duran Duran were my little secret lol. I wasn't into pop. Metal, New Wave, Punk were where I lived. But omg DD completely captured my heart lol. Seven and the Ragged Tiger is another great DD album!
Very excited to see you react to Duran Duran, they were such a huge part of my life, it's kinda weird but wonderful to see someone hear them for the first time. I know that you will love them, they are right up your street. Can't wait to see more, thanks for this, you made my day.✌❤
I'm from the UK and I'm a die hard Duranie since 1981 when they started out just brilliant awesome amazing band 🎉🎉🎉I've got there 16 studio albums and Rio is my No1 fav album check um out playing this epic brilliant awesome amazing single live on there current tour future past 🎉🎉🎉it's the encore last track it's totally epic awesome amazing and the crowds go mad Duran Duran best ever band on planet earth 🌎🌍🌎 enjoy buddy thx for a fantastic review 🙏👍🙏👍
You should try The Chauffeur. That song is just hypnotising and the coolest song ever. By the way, it's not just the bassist that was great. Nick Rhoades on the keys and synths was star attraction at the beginning with those really cool sounds. Signature DD sound due to his talents.
Duran Duran are a great English new wave band that was formed in 1978. "Hungry Like The Wolf" is one of their most famous songs from 1982. But they had a lot of hits such as "Girls On Film", "The Reflex", "Come Undone", "A View To A Kill" (James Bond Theme), "Notorious", "Ordinary World" etc.
I love Duran Duran! This song was absolutely fresh and phenomenal when it came out on MTV. I love the official music video. I'm an old hippy flower child who loved the music from the 70's and early 80's and an official metal head and Ozzy, Randy Rhodes fan and when MTV debuted I was introduced to all kinds of really amazing and talented bands I would not have paid much attention to otherwise. I love this song and I would have loved to see Duran Duran live in concert! Thanks SalvoG!
I would rush off to the corner shop and get my Smash Hits magazine coz the lyrics were in it (no internet then) for the Duran Duran song me and my mates had been humming. Even better if it had John Taylor pull out poster.
This is the song that made me respect these guys. I wrote them off as top 40 kiddie pop till I heard this. And it's John Taylor's Bass attack on this song that did it. Totally amazing performance by him here. ✌Peace✌
This is my favorite DD album. I have on vinyl and listen often. Every song is awesome!! Save a Prayer, Hold back the rain, New Religion, My Own way, (Night version) John Taylors bass is amazing!
This was my favorite song when I was 12 years old during the early eighties. 😄 By the way, the entire album is great! 💯 They're also performing at Madison Square Garden tonight.
It was so fun to see this song permeate your soul. You could swe it happen throughout the reaction. I wish you had reacted to the video, and yet, I'm glad you didn't.
You should watch the 'official' music video for this and Hungry Like the Wolf. They were iconic and staples in heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. MTV really made these guys what they are.
This wasn't my favorite Duran Duran back in the day, but as an adult, I appreciate it a lot more. (I was a HUGE Duran Duran fan though). The bass line in this? FRIGGIN AWESOME
I'm sure many here have seen the Rio bass tutorial by John Taylor here on youtube (if not, go after watching Sal! ruclips.net/video/mtcLKAGN-II/видео.html) but there's this deep dive into Nick's synth here: ruclips.net/video/t3Rjb_a4Oj0/видео.html It's just humbling, realizing what skill and knowledge goes into a part of this song that I barely even notice (but definitely feel).
Love this song! Spring break in Fort Lauderdale 1982, played all the time. MTV new then. The look on your face says it all. Hard not to like this song.
So that album art was by Patrick Nagel. He was really big in the 80s, his art was everywhere. And then he died unexpectedly and everything by him shot through the roof. I had several of his art prints and I was shocked by what people were willing to pay for them.
I never thought much of them where the first album was concerned - I was 14 when Planet Earth and Girls On Film came out and was like..... mehhhhhh, prefer heavy rock. And then this came along and a lot of us heavy rock kids were like..... errrrrrr.... hang on... maybe these guys have got something. This is a great track, the whole album is really strong. And this is one of John Taylors great basslines. Very very very under appreciated bass player.
In the early 80's I went on holiday to Spain, and saw the image that's on the front cover of the album on a MASSIVE billboard. It was an advert for a cigarette brand. It really messed with my mind!
I always wanted to be right in the video with them. Now I want to be in the video and the time period again with them, when we were younger and better looking : )
Love this whole album but my favorite song on it is "Hold Back The Rain". I orginally owned the cassette. When they released it on CD, they cut the song. I was not happy.
Yes my friend Rio is just bloody epic Both song itself and Album as whole Duran Duran are one of the very best bands of all time And hey After this album you could do the other 15 Duran Albums All the way from 1981 through to 2023 / 24 and in Duran time I’m sure there will be a 17th album in or before 2028 for Duran’s 50th Anniversary ( scary shit right there )
We need some Wanted Dead Or Alive Bon Jovi Live!! I would recommend the 1989 Moscow peace festival, or the Livin On A Prayer and Wanted Dead Or Alive acoustic together!
The whole album is a masterpiece, still sounds fresh and innovative after more than 40 years!
the whole album reaction is on his patreon 😍
One of the most amazing bass lines ever!! This one needs the video with it to really get the whole experience.
They isolated bass track is unreal. Definitely a banger.
Phenomenal album! "Save a Prayer" is a beautiful tune also. Enjoy!
My favourite!!
All about that bass 💋
John *sigh*
@lizmarch4000 oh my GOSH yes
Three guesses what song has been stuck in my head since I made this joke
That bass really thumps and grooves. Love it
Bass bass that buttery biscuit bass
Rio is the most quintessentially '80s of '80s albums. It defined the decade in many ways. Not just the music but fashion and art.
I am going to see Duran Duran in concert tomorrow for the first time ever in my 53 years of life!! 🙌🏻
I went last year for the first time in my then 53 years of life. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy, fellow Duranie! ❤
@ it was absolutely fantastic!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You'll love it. Their brilliant live.
Jealous!!!!! Have a blast!!!!
NOW GO WATCH THE VIDEO. 😁💖
John Taylor is a beast on the bass.
THAT sax and bass solo THOUGH!......RIGHT????
Duran Duran changed history.
Still one of my favourite bands and I’m 69! 😄😄🇨🇦
I will die on the hill that says that's the BEST fucking band of the 80's. 💯😎
I took music like this for granted 40 years ago. It has stood the test of time and nothing compares to this stuff today.
A lot of what is released today, from the mainstream artists, at least, should not even pass as music. It rarely receives any real input from the artists, because the record labels are too afraid to stray from the established norms for fear that the music will not sell. Consequently, we are stuck in this rut of repetitive and forgettable music.
A song i grossly under appreciated when i was a college student in the early 80s. Has gotten many many times better as time has passed.
Duran Duran just makes me happy 😊
I am a total Duranie. I think this was their biggest hit. They always end their concerts with this song. Still going strong. Saw them a few weeks' ago.

I love the 80's!!! The best era in so many ways .... Number one has to be the saxophone for me 🎷💖
"Save A Prayer For Me," "Ordinary World," and "Rio" are my all-time favorite masterpiece songs from Duran Duran who I saw in concert in 2006 and the concert was AMAZING!!!
Those are my favourite 3 Duran Duran songs too.
Perfect pop album, every song is gold here, without a doubt one of their best... Duran Duran are one of the best bands ever, still today, Simon's voice is incredible, Nick's keyboards are magical... Big rabbit hole!!!
Written as a love letter to America. Fantastic album!
Back in the eighties, Duran Duran were known for their high quality music videos! Rio is one of their most famous videos!
Even 40+ years later I still remember the lyrics and the video, which you should watch sometime.
These guys really made the most of MTV. Do please check out the music video!
Killer bass all the way through. A band at their peak.
That album is brilliant! Not one bad track, still love it all these years later x
Duran Duran's Rio & Seven & The Ragged Tiger albums were IMO some of Duran Duran's best music

Seven and the Ragged tiger is my favourite album by DD
7 and the raged tiger!LURVE this album!
Salvo would be so great on the dance floor in the 80's! 🤩
The opening to Rio is fantastic.
A wall of sound hitting right deep inside 🎉 glorious
He’s not even watching the video!!! ❤❤❤❤
I’m 52 and can still remember every word to this song 🍦🍧
Very excited to see you react to Duran Duran, they were such a huge part of my life, it's kinda weird but wonderful to see someone hear them for the first time. I know that you will love them, they are right up your street. Can't wait to see more, thanks for this, you made my day.✌❤
Their songs are great and are so much better with the videos. I was a hard core Duranie back in the 80's❤
Isn't it great to finally see Duran getting the praise they've always deserved. It only took them 43 years!
42 years of his release and still kicking as ever.
Wow that took me back to the days of early MTV!!! So much fun to watch your reaction to this gem! Thanx for the flashback!!! 😊❤😊
It blended in perfectly with our disco music we were jamming and slamming dance to.
❤I watched this video on MTV dozens of times and wore out this vinyl a couple of times. John Taylor was my crush!!
During an italian TV quiz show, this song used once as a break with female dancers
You should try The Chauffeur. That song is just hypnotising and the coolest song ever. By the way, it's not just the bassist that was great. Nick Rhoades on the keys and synths was star attraction at the beginning with those really cool sounds. Signature DD sound due to his talents.

Ah, Duran Duran. My childhood. I was so head over heels in love with this band for so long. And this is one of my favorite albums from them.
80s timeee
I love Duran Duran! This song was absolutely fresh and phenomenal when it came out on MTV. I love the official music video. Welcome to the fabulous 80's ❤❤
Duran Duran have many great songs! do more! yes!
I saw them live last night at MSG here in NY. They sound great. Love them ❤
This was my favorite song when I was 12 years old during the early eighties. 😄
By the way, the entire album is great! 💯 They're also performing at Madison Square Garden tonight.
DD lyrics always so clever 💯
Usually art and poetry by Simon.
Saw them live last year in the UK. Still sound as good as the 80's. They were brilliant. Go see them live if you ever get chance
It was so fun to see this song permeate your soul. You could swe it happen throughout the reaction. I wish you had reacted to the video, and yet, I'm glad you didn't.
It’s such an awesome track, and massively underrated.
It’s a mood!
This song has been in my head for days. Wow. Loved it for decades
Love the artwork too, by the great Patrick Nagel. RIP
this is a great track, absolutely! :D cool reaction. i see someone saying save a prayer, and yeah, that's another absolute belter from duran duran.
6:33🎉🎉🎉yess
You should watch the 'official' music video for this and Hungry Like the Wolf.
They were iconic and staples in heavy rotation in the early days of MTV.
MTV really made these guys what they are.
This whole album is sooo good….brings me back to being a little kid…
This wasn't my favorite Duran Duran back in the day, but as an adult, I appreciate it a lot more. (I was a HUGE Duran Duran fan though). The bass line in this? FRIGGIN AWESOME
Wished you'd done the videos for the 3 hits from this album. Their videos are always really well done. Classics now.
The whole album is incredible, not one dud. And so many styles..
The absolute best track is left till last.
One of my favorite songs of the New Wave era -- we had a great thing going on in the early 80s during that Post Punk explosion.
Just saw Duran Duran, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them 25 times at least.
Epic, cinematic song,. It's impossible NOT to sing along. My favorite DD song by far.
@@mayabairey there is. His own channel.
That bass line! I was an 80's metal head when this came out, but there's no denying it, dude ruled the bass. Right there with Entwhistle or Geddy Lee.
First single - planet earth the best. London New Romantics looked down on these musically proficient Brummies (posh ones).
❤️👍🏽👍☘️
Save A Prayer is my favorite Duran Duran song by a good margin but they had a lot of hits.
All their videos were smashers!
Ordinary world is a jam.
Dude. I love the way you actually check lyrics
Best band ever
Awesome song! Too bad you didnt see the video.....
kinda missed chance!Videos to RIO/Lonely in your nightmare and SAP are ma favest from this album.
Very deep lyrics
I never thought much of them where the first album was concerned - I was 14 when Planet Earth and Girls On Film came out and was like..... mehhhhhh, prefer heavy rock.
And then this came along and a lot of us heavy rock kids were like..... errrrrrr.... hang on... maybe these guys have got something.
This is a great track, the whole album is really strong. And this is one of John Taylors great basslines. Very very very under appreciated bass player.
The Rio album is DD's absolute masterpiece but their 2022 album Future Past is arguably their best since Rio.
John Taylor's bass is so underrated.
DD was THE band in the mid-eighties. The Fab Five. They are definitely my favorite band from the 80's. Great reaction!
it's so entertaining watching you bopping to the tune! yea, i exactly know right. first time heard it when i was 11 in 1982!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
80s icons
In the early 80's I went on holiday to Spain, and saw the image that's on the front cover of the album on a MASSIVE billboard. It was an advert for a cigarette brand.
It really messed with my mind!
Why not the video?Such a classic!
Ah. The gated snare. Brings me back....
Yes my friend
Rio is just bloody epic
Both song itself and Album as whole
Duran Duran are one of the very best bands of all time
And hey
After this album you could do the other 15 Duran Albums
All the way from 1981 through to 2023 / 24 and in Duran time I’m sure there will be a 17th album in or before 2028 for Duran’s 50th Anniversary ( scary shit right there )
We need some Wanted Dead Or Alive Bon Jovi Live!! I would recommend the 1989 Moscow peace festival, or the Livin On A Prayer and Wanted Dead Or Alive acoustic together!
'My Own Way' original version.
🇬🇧
You really ought to have watched the video to this song too. ❤
Next one from this band you should do is The Chauffer
