Wow, I can’t believe how intact the kitchen was in the farmhouse. The paint was the same…even the cabinet where Book put the gun back behind the canned goods was still there.
Witness is one of my all time favorite movies!! I live in NY but have visited Amish country, Intercourse and Bird in Hand, PA many times. It's just as beautiful in real life as it is in the movie. In one visit we stayed in a B&B and every morning we were awakened by the clipity clop of horses pulling buggies! It's like going back in time!
I just watched again after maybe 20 years.i just got back from Gettysburg and Amish country. This video is spectacular, thank you very much. Fantastic job.
Love the video Charlie, Witness is my favorite movie, two things I would have loved to have seen in your video are still shots of the movie in all of the locations you visited to see the actual before & after effects, and if the barn is still around where John Book (Harrison Ford) was helping the Amish assemble in the movie, anyways thank you so much, really enjoyed your video
Thanks for this video. I've been travelling from Germany to Pensylvania this may to visit the filming locations. Great spots. Thanks for your help in finding the spots.... Rose
The train station in Philadelphia is called (locally) 30th Street station (although it was renamed in recent years). The room with the mural was the Ladies Waiting Room and was filled with benches at the height of the train travel era.
Thank you Charlie, this is really great! Much appreciated! I need to watch it again. Witness is one of my favorite movies! When you were in the barn and I saw the combine, I thought: maybe the people there are Mennonite or new order Amish of a particular church district. Then I saw the pickup, and another car in the driveway, and the enclosed trailer, etc. This was great!
1985? Where has the time gone. Good video. I still like watching the movie. Good acting directing and no CG images. It amazes me how this film is put together and released. The barn and silo scene looked very real even though the silo was a prop. The shooting scene at the end was cool. The trap door scene was a great idea. And when Book punches the wise ass tourist fit the movie just right. I have been to Lancaster many times and it still amazes me that the Amish way of life continues. I admire these folks. I am almost 70 and I hate to see Harrison and myself get older.
Thanks for uploading this video, I'm going to PA this may, traveling from germany. I stay three nights at an amish farm, hopefully they understand me. I speak german, dutch and english. Greetings Lisa
Charlie, great video. I hate to be picky. One more change I spotted is that the wooden railroad ties seen at the train station have been replaced with concrete ties. Still a great video.
Thank you for all this information Charlie, I enjoyed every minute of your Witness talk, and wow at 8:49, the lady owner of the Lapp family farm having her son named Samuel, that is ironic...I wonder if the lady's name was Rachel, that would have been a coincidence!
The scene where they were at the restaurant eating hotdogs was filmed at 13th and Locust. The scene was filmed on May 4, 1984 which was a Friday. The same day a section of the Gallery caught fire.
Ha! I have seen all the locations except the house which you were very fortunate to see up close! A few years back someone bought Book’s 1971 Volkswagen (with the dent on the hood) and restored it.
Fun fact: the dance scene was filmed in the middle of a very hot day. They enclosed the barn in a black tarp to block out the sun. Both actors were sweating a lot between takes.
Wtf? Amazing ----- I always thought that was done at night, cuz Eli found Rachael with a lamp in his hand and they walked out to the house together after dark, arguing over Book.
@@groundchuck76 No problem ! Thank for showing where the Detectice squad room was, because I knew the did not use actual PPD Detectives squad room. However the scene where Book Carter Samual and his mother are in the car with Police Radio on. That was ab actual Police Dispatcher using actual FCC assigned Call Sign KGF587
The Speedway was a Hess station back in the 80s!I have been going down to that area since the early 1970's.Almost like time has stood still when you get on those back roads.
2021: Humanity appreciates a glimpse into how neighborhood farmers built their Farm Houses from scratch. This is probably Harrison Fords best and favorite movie-scene as he is a self taught Carpenter in his real life. It’s my favorite scene due to the protagonist known as “MUSIC” !!! ~~ We believe that the movie crew worked together, in recruited Ensembles from actual home trained population “AMISH” construction workers.
I don’t know what the GPS coordinates are, but it’s listed on IMDb.com. If you type in Witness, and scroll down to filming locations, it will be listed there.
He states, at least 3 or 4 times, "this is where he fights the 'Tourist'". Tourist?? The guy he fights, or beats up, is most definitely supposed to be a local townie, a local bully, NOT a "Tourist". Where on earth did this guy come up with "Tourist"??? Strange...
Charlie does correct himself the first time. I think also, the town guy is out of place to Charlie, he doesn't belong there, he's a tourist: an actor brought in for the moment. And in that area, you are of the community, or you are a tourist. So I see how "tourist" covers several aspects for him. I understand it like that. Also I don't remember the movie ever saying. If they came from Philly to harass in Lancaster, are they tourists then? And one of those town guys I think is the son of Jan Robes (Jacob Lap )
that scenes is one of my all-time favorites scenes! kinda sad now to think it was only for show. But it was genuine when they put it up :) and the score is awesome. ty mr. Jarre, rip. That was a great question VB, I never even thought about it.
I'm surprised that the farmhouse and barn are so run down. When traveling through Amish country, every piece of property and every farm is kept in perfect, pristine condition.
I've lived in this general area since the early 80's and just now watched the movie for the first time. I remember when that Waffle House on Rte 30 used to be a Dairy Queen. That Speedway gas station used to be a Hess gas station. The road has been widened to make turning lanes. I've driven by that location where he makes the phone call many times.
Wow, I can’t believe how intact the kitchen was in the farmhouse. The paint was the same…even the cabinet where Book put the gun back behind the canned goods was still there.

Not really ironic. Samuel and Rachel are extremely common names in the plain communities.
The scene where they were at the restaurant eating hotdogs was filmed at 13th and Locust. The scene was filmed on May 4, 1984 which was a Friday. The same day a section of the Gallery caught fire.
Steve Giannone was that on Philadelphia or Lancaster?
It was in Center City Philadelphia

Fun fact: I heard that the term “walking the grain” was used to describe guys walking on beams over silo and grains in barn.
Soooo cool.... great video 👍 brilliant movie
That was a GREAT movie if you never seen it make sure you watch it myself i must of watch it 10 x
The statue in the main waiting room at 30th Street station in Philadelphia was a WW2 memorial for the Pennsylvania Railroad employees
So how do you know Harrison's number? Amazing! 😆

I noticed that, they looked sweaty, and I found that unusual, thinking how can people sweat at night ? LOL
@@gastonpalavicino8827 Because I never heard of the the Amish running air conditioners during those summer heat waves.

The Parking Garage is in down town Philadelphia. The lunch scene was near or in the Reading Terminal Market

Not for nothing, we locals pronounce the city and county "Lang-kiss-stir" and it a beautiful place to live. It was fun to see familiar places.
Im at the Parkesburg train station right now. Kitty cat is still in the window btw...but has been moved down a bit...a mystery in the making...

It would have been nice to have comparison scenes from the movie with each location.

The bathroom scene was filmed in Lancaster. The same location where Harrison Ford got shot in the garage.
I’m from Lancaster . I think the bathroom scene was filmed in the train station there
The silo entrance was from inside the barn.
When you were at the house, did you see the pond? At the end of the movie where Book was saying goodbye to Samuel they were sitting right by the pond.
Steve Giannone, I think the pond was all dried up. I didn’t see it. But, thanks for watching!!!
Where is exactly the Witness's farm?
Use the GPS.
I don’t know what the GPS coordinates are, but it’s listed on IMDb.com. If you type in Witness, and scroll down to filming locations, it will be listed there.
I will go

im curious about the barn that was constructed during the movie. Is it still standing today and in use by the Amish?
No, it was only constructed for the film, and then torn down after production.

Why is there a refrigerator and tractor in am amish barn?
They are likely mennonites
