  • In yoga, we have a concept of the Koshas, these are the layers of self, literally translated as sheaths. You can think of them as webs…webs that catch our negative beliefs, painful emotions, and physical tension. When we over identify with these layers of self we might think this is all there is…this is all of who I am. Yoga guides on a path through the koshas to arrive at a core of goodness…the truth of who you are…and to the knowledge that you were made for joy.
From this place we can attend to the places that carry doubt, heaviness, worry…We don’t rush them away, rather we simply remind these tender parts of us that we are still hear, carrying on…and we must not lose sight of the core of goodness that exists inside of each of use, beneath these layers.
On a physical level, this class focuses on opening the side bodies, fronts and back of the heart with various forms of bow and dancer’s pose. I invite you to breathe into and open your heart.

    Poem from today:
    READ THE FINE PRINT
    By Chelan Harkin
Some days I awaken so certain of the world's goodness.
This poem is a reminder for those other days when I need to convince my stubborn mind that all is still well.
    Let me present the evidence:
have you noticed all the fastidious care
    that went into pinning up
    so many stars
    to decorate the night sky?
    What did that?
And the way all of nature has a tidiness to it
    even gnarled trees, even dirt?
Or sit a moment and puzzle over the masterful origami of each flower and think,
    "what cosmic interior decorator
chose that gold for those rolling hills?"
And before that, who thought up tenderness?
Who is it that came up

Many thanks as usual Dr. Schwartz for this wonderful practice. The poem is very touching, and your presence and guidance of course are steady and welcoming companions.
