To be successful on your road test you must demonstrate a set of skills, knowledge, and abilities. These 10 tips will give you that abilities, skills and knowledge that you need to know to be successful!
The 4 basic components of any road test are:
1) speed management
2) space management
3) observations
4) communication
To be successful on a road test you must manage both speed of the vehicle, and space around the vehicle. On a road test, you must drive:
1) the posted speed limit
2) the speed of the traffic flow
3) the capability of the vehicle
WHICH EVER IS LESS! And you must drive to the conditions of the road. If there is high pedestrian traffic, or it is snowing or raining you will reduce speed.
For space management, you must maintain a good distance from other road users and fixed objects.

Driving is not a spectator sport, and you must practice, practice, practice. And do not overlook or speed past doing slow-speed manoeuvres - these will improve your overall driving. Although, 7/8 of the road test is in a forward motion, it is the 1/8th of the road test that is slow-speed manoeuvres that gives new drivers the biggest challenge.

Practice backing. Being able to back well will improve your overall driving. And the steering, throttle and brake all respond differently when the vehicle is in reverse. See videos: • How to Back a Car | Pa... and • How to Back a Car | Pa...
Parking is an is a fundamental of any road test. You will be required to park at the licensing center where you will take your test: • How To Reverse Bay Par...
If you are not taking driving lessons, you should do a mock road test with a driving instructor. A driving instructor will give you precise feedback about your preparedness for a road test: • How to Pass a Driver's... and in the winter: • How to Pass Driving Te...
On the day of your road test, do a pre-trip inspection on the vehicle you are using. Ensure all the lights work, that the seat belts are operational, that the horn, windshield wipers and brake lights all work. And ensure that the registration and insurance papers are in the vehicle and there isn't any damage. Be sure that both license plates are attached. If your vehicle doesn't pass a pre-trip inspection you may not be allowed to take your license.
Paperwork: ensure that you have your license and 2 pieces of identification. And bring money - there is a cost for the road test.
Finally, go to the toilet before the road test. And breath...if you focus on your breathing, it allows you to relax. And visualize yourself passing your test and earning your license.

For people who are yet to take the test, I took it in Langley, BC. The proctor clearly said where and what shes going to do during the test. She took me to one playground zone, highway and a lots of road narrows ahead roads (make sure you shoulder check there) and lastly for slow maneuver, she asked me to back up in the lot.

As many have in the comments I just wanted to say I passed my road test a week ago from today! I am so glad that anxiety is over off to my new found freedom. I really want to say thank you for all you have posted from tips to building confidence. I am the first time driver in my immediately family so this was a big deal accomplishment for me as I had only instructors to observe and teach me..which is the best way when you find a good one. Just passed my road test first try and have been commenting on the channels that helped me pass. Your videos really helped calmed my nerves, and made me concentrate to be more observant, thank you. To anyone about to take their test, it's not as bad as you think!! The instructors are not there to fail you, they WANT you to succeed! Taking some deep breathes and doing breathing exercises before my test really helped. You got this!

Omg I just took my Road Test today and I passed on the first try!!! What's more surprising of all is that I only had 15 hours total of practice and I was certain I was going to fail since I felt so insecure. I've got ten points fault. First I turned two close left and then I turned to wide to the right lol. I was so happy when the examiner told me I'd be getting my license on the mailbox. Thanks a lot for your videos they certainly helped me.

I have mine today in an hour and a half and I’ve only driven maybe 10 hours max I still find it kind of hard park and reverse . I also taught myself how to drive with RUclips I also drive manual so I’m just freaking out over this test ... my mom really believes Im gonna pass and she never believes in me so it’s putting a lot of pressure on me sorry I know you don’t care but I wanted to get it off my chest i guess this is where my mind chose to do that

Hello Rick, I failed the road test last 28 August 2020. I forgot that I was driving in the U.S. and took the (wrong lane) opposite lane when examiner told me to make a left turn. Thank God there was no car or maybe if there was, I would have realized it was the wrong lane. I forgot I am not in Japan anymore. That was automatic failure. On the 2nd attempt 2 September 2020, I passed the road test with a score of 94%. Hit the curb slightly doing the parallel and driveway curb backing. I have to use the driving school’s car because that was what they allowed. Other than that everything was good. Was nervous but I kept telling myself “I CAN DO IT” and Right, right right. I reviewed a thousand times the tips you had provided on road test, how to pass the road test, how to overcome anxiety during the road test and especially focusing on parallel parking. I did not even know how I did the parallel parking but I DID IT! Thank you for the encouragement and your time providing very useful smart driving information and tips. Thank you for responding to my email that “I CAN DO IT.” You are God send. My examiner contributed to my success too. He is very cheerful and relax while I was driving. He showed his confidence in my driving. That helped a lot too. Thank you and stay safe Rick. God bless!!!

I have a road test in exactly one month, did 2 lessons so far, have 3 left, have drove about 6 hours in total. I know what I need to work on, I'm just nervous. For me it's shoulder checking, switching lanes in traffic and parallel parking. Haven't even really done any slow manoeuvres yet. Have a month to put it all together and pass my test. I'll continue watching your videos

Rick! I finally have my road test tomorrow morning! I’m 29, and spent many years in an abusive relationship… He never allowed me to drive, and he always did his best to make sure that I felt in my heart that I just wasn’t capable of it… what a lying loser! I’m proud to tell you I got out, ran far away and have since started my life over… one thing I’m missing is a proper license! I’m praying that I pass with flying colors, and I have faith that it will happen thanks to all I have learned from you.

I got my test today. I keep reminding myself, you got this! Breathe and take it easy. I hope it’s okay if I ask my instructor a question about school zones and playground zones? And other signage. In my city the signage is a bit weird so I hope I can clarify. It would suck to fail for speeding in a playground zone bevause it didn’t actually state the speed anywhere.

I finally passed the road test on my fourth test. There were particular speed issues in the previous three tests. I have been driving in Korea for 5 years and never felt any problems with driving. When I started driving here in Nebraska, I didn't really care about the speed limit, only the distance between the car in front and behind. From my perspective, other drivers didn't really care about the speed limit, and I felt pressured by cars following and passing by, so I ended up habitually going over the speed limit. After failing my driving test three times in a row because of this habit, I developed a prejudice that testers were discriminatory toward foreigners rather than facing my own problems. After a while, I pulled myself together and practiced while watching the smart drive test video. In particular, tips 1 and 10 in this video were very helpful. Even though I practiced for about 3 hours the day before the exam, I couldn't sleep at night, so I practiced extra at 12 PM and went to sleep. In the morning, I arrived at the DMV, went to the bathroom, took a number, took a deep breath, and imagined myself passing. At the end of the test, I heard the words “Good job” from the examiner. Of course, my driving course coach helped me a lot, but I was able to check and practice my problems by watching these videos every night after the classes. Through these videos, I was able to not only pass my driving test but also become a better driver. I will also look for videos for new drivers later. Thank you so much Rick, and I will recommend this channel to my wife who will take the road test soon.

Hey Rick, I had my driving exam yesterday afternoon and I PASSED!! Before my test I was nervous all day at work lol but also I was confident that I was gonna passed because the night before I watched this video which made me less nervous wand more confident when I was doing my road test, also what help me is that I pictured that it was my instructor before me in the passenger seat testing me instead which also make me more focussed and relax, so I passed my g2 test on my first try. I would like to say thank you very much for this video, it really help me a lot and your channel is really awesome and very helpful, now I have wait to do my G 😁👏🏾👏🏾

I took it in the US, in the state of Ohio, they have a maneuverability skills test that is a pain! I feel so relieved that it is done! As for road trips, I'm from Colombia and we arrived a couple of months to the country, so we have a lot of places we want to visit but haven't decided yet (Canada is one of them), we're going to start planning and I will definitely continue to watch your videos so I can get better.

Taking my driving test on the 6th and I'm kind of nervous. I have confidence in my regular driving skills, just a little nervous about parallel parking and parking in reverse. However, I'm pretty decent at parallel parking so I guess it's a lack of self confidence. I do know one thing; I am definitely going to practice as much as a I can before the test. Hey Rick, we celebrated by going out for wings with the family. I think most of the content we look for when preparing for road tests, you cover it very well. I managed to pass the test in Calgary. Hi rick! I'm a new suscriber. I watched this video a couple days ago, and it helped me on how to pass my road test the second time around. I didn't take my second attempt road test yet, but when I do, I want to pass this one. The first time I failed, because my speed was too slow and I was far from the curb on my parallel parking. My k-turn was good, and the instructor I had was very nice, a young guy. I think I was nervous too, bc I was expecting my baby girl at the time. I was so disappointed that I didn't pass, but I'm determined to pass when I sign up for my road test again. I want to do this for myself 1st, husband and my kids. I'm 34 so I need it. You're awesome to reply to every single person that had a question or a testimony to give about you helping them pass their road test! :)

Thank you so much for ur advice. I practiced the manoeuvre at slow speed just before my exam and during the exam I was perfect at parallel parking and passed in-spite for being late for my exam )) it means a lot as it was my 6th attempt I was trying to pass for 7 month in UK ))

I failed my road test again today I know all of my maneuvers I have a good driving instructor it's just I get so so nervous as a new driver I could not remember steps to parallel park have to take test again in two months also I had trouble with speed control and focusing I did well on practice pre test but still keep failing I know this stuff by now been practing what can I do to focus and relax so I can pass help Arleen Rahway New Jersey!
