I'm one of the 70% that has never parallel parked after my drive test! I had a fear of driving as a teen and didn't get my license until I was 22. My license expired years ago and I haven't had a vehicle for many years. Now, I'm 48 and have to take the drive test again. I have my permit and have been putting off my drive test because of parallel parking! This video really boosted my confidence! Thank You! I'll be scheduling my drive test soon...

@@smartdrivetest im a little confused on the 45 degree mark, what I'm used to is using cones and using the cone behind me as a reference point and I found out that I won't have that cone to help, so do I just imagine there is a cone there or how do I approach this? Thanks.

I'm an instructor, too, and determining the 45 degree angle is what my students have the most trouble with. Using a reference point in the car and outside the car to determine the proper angle is genius! Thanks!

I don't understand. I parallel roughly 10 times a week. How are you able to avoid it for 20 years? Is it on purpose? Do you go out of your way to avoid it by parking elsewhere? Isn't it a hassle?
This was my situation as well. I got my license in '93 and I still break into sweats everytime I have to parallel park. I used this video to help my 17 yr old son and I think I may now have beat my fear of parallel parking myself. Thanks!

Just passed my test today!! Super easy make sure when you schedule your test you do it in the morning because for me it was at 9 and there was barely any cars.

The amount of people who said they fortunately passed here, honestly gives me hope lol. I'm really needing to get my parent/s to take me out for a practice drive because it would help me tremendously more, if I actually was able to be more confident when driving, verses the saying of Point A to Point B. I was relaxed the first day of my road test, but ultimately I felt everything blanked my mind, and I wasn't sure how to handle the situation because of nerves, being scared to hit the cones, ultimately had someone nice that day & she simply said I needed more progress, and wrote me up. 😅 When I write down notes, I completely know how to do so. When I was with my driving instructors taking practice drives (only way I've driven a car; not with my parents nor friends which lessens the practices), I would always do them nearly perfectly. K-Turn, and Reverse, as well as parallel parking. Day of the test lol I went blank in the mind, in due to being minimally distanced to the cones, feeling the car was crooked- fixed the car, got scared of hitting the cones, and was told to park to be written up, was very quick. Going to watch this video a couple of times & get in some extra practice. May I pass it on my second time. 🙏🏼💯❤❤ lol I needed to be more confident in my ability to drive, look, signal, reverse it to the right, signal, reverse it to the left, straighten the car, drive forward, park it. Have it checked. Then check blind spots, signal, and begin the K-Turn when ready to. Later the reverse, and minimal driving to have aced it. 😂🤣 I got so pissed when I got out of that car & knew I could've made it.

@@godiseverything1482 heya! just an opinion here but it seems you arn't turning the wheel as hard or for too short of time when you begin parrallel parking.. aim for around 45 degrees from the other car your parking around then slowly bring your wheel around the other way and when your clear from the back of the car, hard lock around untill you have a straight line from the middle of your car to the middle of the back of the car infront of you... Hope this helps!
Your instructions are GREAT! I had to teach my daughter parallel parking, and while I have no fear of parallel parking, like you I could NOT explain it. Found your video and tried it out, then had my daughter watch the video before taking her out to practice. We just came back from her FIRST foray into parallel parking...and she NAILED every attempt! This has been a life saver for BOTH of us!

I just got back from my dad teaching me how to parallel park. I’m just crying because it was to hard for me and my dad kept telling me I was doing it wrong and getting mad at me. Hopefully watching this video can help me because I don’t think I can pass my test.

I still parallel park after driving for 35 years. Never really had any issues doing it. Only time I’ll choose not to it, is in heavy traffic. People don’t seem to want to give you the time or space to get it done. I found your channel, looking for help on teaching my daughter. I have parallel parked everything from a motorcycle to a school bus. But can’t seem to teach my daughter to park a Subaru. Funny how we “people” can perform a complex task with ease but can’t teach it. Thank you. You videos have been a great help.

I had to parallel park between two cars in a very tight spot on my road test in Pittsfield, MA today. Am still very grateful for your videos, above all for the encouragement and moral support. I just kept in mind what you said in your other video: your one job is to take away the examiner's right to fail you- nothing more, nothing less. It was a tight squeeze with a lot of back and forth in the spot, but I managed to get lined up close to the curb and get back out without hitting anything. Passed!
I parallel park regularly. It is needed in neighborhoods and on city streets all the time. It seems hard to believe that 70 percent of drivers get away with never doing it. I do appreciate this reminder of methods for knowing where to set the vehicle before backing up, how far to turn the wheel, angling to the 45 degree spot, and how far to back up before turning the other way. I usually do it by sight, making visual calculations as I go and relying on a basic understanding of how the car moves,, without such a specific set of instructions to follow. Following the steps laid out in this video should make it super easy. Thanks!

The 45 degree mark tip is SO simple and yet so effective. I’ve had my drivers license for 12 years but I never felt comfortable attempting my advanced road test because I’ve never parallel parked since my initial road test! I’ve spent years lurching in and out of spots before giving up for an easier spot! After watching this I tried parallel parking between two vehicles and got it on the second try, and since then I’ve been able to do it in one try. Thanks so much! I wish somehow had explained this to me in drivers ed many years ago.

Smart Drive Test I took it at the DMV. it’s by appointment only right now but they’re prioritizing new licenses/ID’s. For the test itself, I had to do the fast stop (20 mph with out skidding the wheels), parallel parking and then we just drove around a bit for observation. That was pretty much it. I was one point from failing but I know for a fact it’s because I was so nervous. Longest hour and fifteen minutes ever, but I passed and got the parallel parking down pat so I’m gonna hold on to that! Edit: I also had to back up in a straight line
Thank you for the information. Yes, those pesky nerves can get you every time. Still, you practiced enough that when the nerves kicked in, your skills you practiced took over. I’m definitely nervous. My test is on Thursday but I have been doing really well and anyone I drove with thinks I’ll pass and a big thank you to you, Rick, as you have taught me so much and made me confident about my parallel parks!

I'm 58 and teaching my 20 year old how to parallel park for her drivers test when truth be told I'm not that great at it myself. I always joke that I was absent the day it was taught. In those days we had the high school teachers teach us and literally did miss that lesson. You're explanation was so good that I'm feeling confident about doing it myself. Normally it would take 3 or four attempts but now understand the 3' and 45 degree thing. Thanks so much and hoping tomorrow goes better while teaching my daughter. By the way....you are a very handsome man.

I never realised what my instructors and drivers said to me “straighten up” or go “straighter for longer” and I realised from this video- its a turn and then you REVERSE STRAIGHT and then turn in. Thank you so much for clarifying this :)

I had to take a driver's test in the state where I relocated. I had been driving elsewhere for 50 years with a good record, and failed the test in my new state due to parallel parking! This video helped do what I dread!!

I got for my test on monday and I'm sooo nervous I feel like I'm a pretty great driver but my parallel parks is 50/50 ! I'm either acing it or failing it lol

Rick, I passed my road test today ( Long Island, New York) on my second try. I want to thank you for helping me learn how to pass my road test ( your 45 degree angle tip is amazing for parallel parking). There was a lot of self study for me to prepare for the test as my parents did not always have the time to teach me. There was also a lot of pressure for me to learn to drive and pass the road test in a hurry as I am going to medical school in 3 months. Your videos helped this future doctor achieve his goals and learn how to drive safely. For that, I am deeply grateful. To anyone reading, confidence is key for the road test. Be confident in yourself. When the instructor asks you to do something on the test, do not be a mute and do not speak in a silent voice. Reply in the confident voice that you were born with that you understand the instruction. It will keep you focused and remind you that you are in charge and can win this. Practice this in your head and room before the test. It will help you when you are alone in the car with the instructor. Best of luck, everyone.

Locating 45 degree point was a really good tip. Also, not to panick if you don't get it right the first try. Had my road test on Fridayand nailed the parallel park on my second attempt. Passed. I now have my Ontario G2. Thank you.

Had my test last Tuesday and these have helped a lot. My experience: did everything right on my first test but I was reproved for not paying attention on an imprudent man that signaled to the left and went to the right, second test (last Tuesday) I was so nervous and mess up the parallel parking (was able to fix though) but the instructor was so nice and friendly that he let me pass saying that I did the most important: I cared for the safety of the vehicle and the passengers in it, so at the end of the day is not worth stressing about it because whether you pass or not, it will depend on how the instructor see the seriousness of certain situations.
I passed my test today, and it was thanks to this channel! I must have watched this video a dozen times. I was too nervous, and that caused me to have a close shave of a pass, but a pass it still was. Thank you so much!

I had to retake my driving test because I went too long without renewing my license ( 4 years ). Here I am 4 years after retaking my permit and road test and I have had my license since that test. This video out of the tons that our out there is what helped me pass the parallel park with ease. The guy testing me even commented how easy I made the parallel park look. All because of this video. I'm up for my renewal in June which I will absolutely be doing and I just wanted to thank the guy that made this video. Best parallel park video hands down!!
I practiced Parallel Parking for my G Test and the instructor never instructed me to do it. So I was 100% sure I failed, when we were driving back to the lot. But I passed. But I am glad I still took the time to learn it.

By far the best driving instructor on RUclips. This approach worked PERFECTLY for me. all other approaches by other youtubers and driving instructors did not. New drivers watch this guys videos.

Finally got my license today! Funnily enough I kept telling myself it’d be rare that I’d ever have to parallel park between 2 vehicles in the area that I live, and that was my only available parking space near my home today. At least this helped me out!

I wish you were my driving instructor in driver's ed, mine has this thick irish accent so he's hard to understand and he grabs the wheel alot so he scares me

I just found you today, the day before my road test, and while I was doing ok at parallel parking before today, it was a little hit or miss... today I did all 6-8ish parallel parks perfect (or a couple were adjustable - and then perfect) thanks to your advice. Feeling more confident for tomorrow (though still nervous!). Thanks!!

I'm one of the 70% that has never parallel parked after my drive test! I had a fear of driving as a teen and didn't get my license until I was 22. My license expired years ago and I haven't had a vehicle for many years. Now, I'm 48 and have to take the drive test again. I have my permit and have been putting off my drive test because of parallel parking! This video really boosted my confidence! Thank You! I'll be scheduling my drive test soon...

I'm an instructor, too, and determining the 45 degree angle is what my students have the most trouble with. Using a reference point in the car and outside the car to determine the proper angle is genius! Thanks!

I don't understand. I parallel roughly 10 times a week. How are you able to avoid it for 20 years? Is it on purpose? Do you go out of your way to avoid it by parking elsewhere? Isn't it a hassle?

The amount of people who said they fortunately passed here, honestly gives me hope lol. I'm really needing to get my parent/s to take me out for a practice drive because it would help me tremendously more, if I actually was able to be more confident when driving, verses the saying of Point A to Point B. I was relaxed the first day of my road test, but ultimately I felt everything blanked my mind, and I wasn't sure how to handle the situation because of nerves, being scared to hit the cones, ultimately had someone nice that day & she simply said I needed more progress, and wrote me up. 😅
When I write down notes, I completely know how to do so.
When I was with my driving instructors taking practice drives (only way I've driven a car; not with my parents nor friends which lessens the practices), I would always do them nearly perfectly. K-Turn, and Reverse, as well as parallel parking. Day of the test lol I went blank in the mind, in due to being minimally distanced to the cones, feeling the car was crooked- fixed the car, got scared of hitting the cones, and was told to park to be written up, was very quick. Going to watch this video a couple of times & get in some extra practice. May I pass it on my second time. 🙏🏼💯❤❤ lol I needed to be more confident in my ability to drive, look, signal, reverse it to the right, signal, reverse it to the left, straighten the car, drive forward, park it. Have it checked. Then check blind spots, signal, and begin the K-Turn when ready to. Later the reverse, and minimal driving to have aced it. 😂🤣 I got so pissed when I got out of that car & knew I could've made it.

I have a question, when I put the car in reverse and turn the steering wheel to the right while I am backing up, The car is usually too wide from the curb.
Why is that?
@@godiseverything1482 heya! just an opinion here but it seems you arn't turning the wheel as hard or for too short of time when you begin parrallel parking.. aim for around 45 degrees from the other car your parking around then slowly bring your wheel around the other way and when your clear from the back of the car, hard lock around untill you have a straight line from the middle of your car to the middle of the back of the car infront of you... Hope this helps!

Your instructions are GREAT! I had to teach my daughter parallel parking, and while I have no fear of parallel parking, like you I could NOT explain it. I still parallel park after driving for 35 years. Never really had any issues doing it. Only time I’ll choose not to it, is in heavy traffic. People don’t seem to want to give you the time or space to get it done. I found your channel, looking for help on teaching my daughter. I have parallel parked everything from a motorcycle to a school bus. But can’t seem to teach my daughter to park a Subaru. I had to parallel park between two cars in a very tight spot on my road test in Pittsfield, MA today. Am still very grateful for your videos, above all for the encouragement and moral support. I just kept in mind what you said in your other video: your one job is to take away the examiner's right to fail you- nothing more, nothing less. It was a tight squeeze with a lot of back and forth in the spot, but I managed to get lined up close to the curb and get back out without hitting anything. Passed!
I parallel park regularly. It is needed in neighborhoods and on city streets all the time. It seems hard to believe that 70 percent of drivers get away with never doing it. I do appreciate this reminder of methods for knowing where to set the vehicle before backing up, how far to turn the wheel, angling to the 45 degree spot, and how far to back up before turning the other way. I usually do it by sight, making visual calculations as I go and relying on a basic understanding of how the car moves,, without such a specific set of instructions to follow. Following the steps laid out in this video should make it super easy. Thanks!

The 45 degree mark tip is SO simple and yet so effective. I’ve had my drivers license for 12 years but I never felt comfortable attempting my advanced road test because I’ve never parallel parked since my initial road test! I’ve spent years lurching in and out of spots before giving up for an easier spot! After watching this I tried parallel parking between two vehicles and got it on the second try, and since then I’ve been able to do it in one try. Thanks so much! I wish somehow had explained this to me in drivers ed many years ago.

Smart Drive Test I took it at the DMV. it’s by appointment only right now but they’re prioritizing new licenses/ID’s.
For the test itself, I had to do the fast stop (20 mph with out skidding the wheels), parallel parking and then we just drove around a bit for observation. That was pretty much it. I was one point from failing but I know for a fact it’s because I was so nervous. Longest hour and fifteen minutes ever, but I passed and got the parallel parking down pat so I’m gonna hold on to that!
Edit: I also had to back up in a straight line
Thank you for the information. Yes, those pesky nerves can get you every time. Still, you practiced enough that when the nerves kicked in, your skills you practiced took over. I'm 58 and teaching my 20 year old how to parallel park for her drivers test when truth be told I'm not that great at it myself. I always joke that I was absent the day it was taught. In those days we had the high school teachers teach us and literally did miss that lesson. You're explanation was so good that I'm feeling confident about doing it myself. Normally it would take 3 or four attempts but now understand the 3' and 45 degree thing. Thanks so much and hoping tomorrow goes better while teaching my daughter. Rick, I passed my road test today ( Long Island, New York) on my second try. I want to thank you for helping me learn how to pass my road test ( your 45 degree angle tip is amazing for parallel parking).
There was a lot of self study for me to prepare for the test as my parents did not always have the time to teach me. There was also a lot of pressure for me to learn to drive and pass the road test in a hurry as I am going to medical school in 3 months. Your videos helped this future doctor achieve his goals and learn how to drive safely. For that, I am deeply grateful.
To anyone reading, confidence is key for the road test. Be confident in yourself. When the instructor asks you to do something on the test, do not be a mute and do not speak in a silent voice. Reply in the confident voice that you were born with that you understand the instruction. It will keep you focused and remind you that you are in charge and can win this. Practice this in your head and room before the test. It will help you when you are alone in the car with the instructor. Best of luck, everyone.

Had my test last Tuesday and these have helped a lot. My experience: did everything right on my first test but I was reproved for not paying attention on an imprudent man that signaled to the left and went to the right, second test (last Tuesday) I was so nervous and mess up the parallel parking (was able to fix though) but the instructor was so nice and friendly that he let me pass saying that I did the most important: I cared for the safety of the vehicle and the passengers in it, so at the end of the day is not worth stressing about it because whether you pass or not, it will depend on how the instructor see the seriousness of certain situations.
I passed my test today, and it was thanks to this channel! I must have watched this video a dozen times. I was too nervous, and that caused me to have a close shave of a pass, but a pass it still was. Thank you so much!

I had to retake my driving test because I went too long without renewing my license ( 4 years ). Here I am 4 years after retaking my permit and road test and I have had my license since that test. This video out of the tons that our out there is what helped me pass the parallel park with ease. The guy testing me even commented how easy I made the parallel park look. All because of this video. I'm up for my renewal in June which I will absolutely be doing and I just wanted to thank the guy that made this video. Best parallel park video hands down!!
I practiced Parallel Parking for my G Test and the instructor never instructed me to do it. So I was 100% sure I failed, when we were driving back to the lot. But I passed. But I am glad I still took the time to learn it.

By far the best driving instructor on RUclips. This approach worked PERFECTLY for me. all other approaches by other youtubers and driving instructors did not. New drivers watch this guys videos.

I wish you were my driving instructor in driver's ed, mine has this thick irish accent so he's hard to understand and he grabs the wheel alot so he scares me

Hey JokerTV - that's great that your Dad's helping out. Ask you Dad if he could make some time for you to practice what you're--hopefully--learning in driver's ed. I just found you today, the day before my road test, and while I was doing ok at parallel parking before today, it was a little hit or miss... today I did all 6-8ish parallel parks perfect (or a couple were adjustable - and then perfect) thanks to your advice. Feeling more confident for tomorrow (though still nervous!). Thanks!!

I park further away so I don't have to parallel park.

Teacher Jay lol 😂 I thought I was the only person who still did this well I’ve only been driving for 6months now and I just got my Permit last Friday and I’m trying to get the parallel parking situation so I can schedule my driving test as soon as possible! This video was very helpful I am going to take my day tomorrow to practice ☺️☝️👌❤️

My driver examiner was really ogre he let me park between two car for a basic road test.
