My husband and I did many projects ourselves too. On our first house, there was a huge increase in interest rates. Over 12-15% so people ended up walking away from their homes because they couldn’t afford to convert from construction loan to mortgage. (It was in the 80’s and an awful time.) The house we bought was left for several years and alder trees had tried to take over the font and back yards!! We pulled all of them, rented a rototiller that was almost as tall as me (I couldn’t turn corners, I could only pivot 😜🤪😳). Then, we laid topsoil, peat and other soil amendments (we got truckloads, not delivered) and finally, we laid the grass seed. Every day I went over it pulling the bits of thistles that were trying to sprout. Hard work. I had sweat dripping in my eyes and down my nose! 😂 Very satisfying once complete! Love love love the drone!
I bet you absolutely enjoyed that property! We really are appreciative of the Things we earn with sweat equity and our time investment. Thanks for sharing and being here Leslie 🤗
Great job Lauren and Neiman, you guys work well together. I really like the shape, just becareful of sparks starting your mulch on fire, maybe a three foot ring of small stones around pit then the mulch. Enjoy your first outing.
THIS IS SO STINKIN' CUTE! Oh my WORD! I am over the MOON! Wow, wow, wow!!!!!!! FANTASTIC! That Nieman is a WHIZ! So glad to know you guys and follow your journey! I am chuckling because ----well----because I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Well I love watching you Lauren, you’re very Inspiring and so down to earth. But the two of y’all together is even better. Y’all are great pair keep up the good work. I truly enjoyed watching y’all work so well together. Awesome, Way to go!
Friends of ours made a firepit similar to this. The landlord said it was okay w him....UNTIL he stopped by one Saturday & said, "Oh no!......u cant put the mulch next to the pit due to possible fires....YOU HAVE TO do SAND!! They had to rake up all the mulch & put sand down instead. _____they then bought some plastic adirondack chairs & palm trees, painted the perimeter railroad ties a weathered driftwood gray, added some seashells & beachy lanterns & made a beach themed outdoor space. It was so cool!
Hello, I have been watching your furniture flipping videos for about a month now, and I have gotten a lot of ideas. Watching the fire pit project makes me wanting more. So, I subscribed, I want to see more and can't wait for part 2. GREAT JOB GUYS!
You guys did an awesome job!!! Can’t wait to see more. I usually buy my mulch by the yard for $30. They usually dump a scoop and a half into the pickup and off we go. Some garden centers charge more so shop around. Luckily, mine is a supply place a few miles down the street. I got my soil for raised beds this year too. Very economical.
This was awesome! You guys are so cute! Glad to see you doing new things. Lauren you are a true teacher…..I could see you teaching your students about shapes when you were talking about a hexagon😊.
Lauren, you and Neiman did a fantastic job !! I love the hexagon shape with the fire pit in the middle. Can't wait to part 2 of this project. Thanks for a great DIY project !!
How exciting! Love projects. Inly thing I could think was, 'the firepit is so small' When you guys brought the chairs up close, now the pit seemed to be better. (Yeah, chairs aren't staying.) Have fun. Hope you discuss the old farmhouse & perhaps some of its history...?😊
Fun project. I've done all those same hard work yard things with a few minor mistakes. That's what it takes. What a great fire pit and fun place to gather. Good Job!
Yes it was! Can’t wait to showcase part #2 and bring it all together. It always is that much more enjoyable when the work is put in for it as well! Thanks for watching and happy to have you enjoy this with us!
OMG, great job. That was a lot of work. I wish I had the energy to do a parking pad in front of our house, but all that hand digging & leveling is a huge turnoff. You both did it & it looks amazing. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I'm so happy you did this, I've got something similar planned but with pea gravel. You can save lots by getting truckloads. They can put more than one product on the truck too.
So far it looks very cozy. I like how its a dedicated space. As a contractor and like others mentioned you need sand or pea gravel around the perimeter of the pit, about 5 feet out. Sparks fly and mulch can ignite. The next time you build a fire pit look for firebrick used in fireplaces and bricks pizza ovens, its made to take the high temperature of the fire.
Using that drone to film was perfect! So happy you guys invested on a drone to film. You guys did a terrific job on the fire pit. It looks 101% perfect. Now you guys are going to be approached by everyone and their brother to build the a fire pit…..🤪
We were super excited to utilize the drone and thought it really helped showcase key parts of this project! Happy to hear you liked having it apart of this project as well 🙌 We would not be opposed to that at all - bring it on haha!
This turned out beautifully, y'all worked so hard with such a fabulous result. I love the wood, with black mulch and the grey stones for the fire pit. The shape is super cool too😷🤩🎉☺️
Don’t feel bad about underestimating the mulch. After years of running back to Home Depot for more mulch I now buy twice as much as I think is needed. Enjoyed the drone views
Looks great! You should check out the DIY 'smokeless' fire ring video. The smoke is what was holding me back from having a ring, but we're going to try his method.
You've both done so well, congrats on your first big diy Project together, it looks so good,I have mulch in my raised beds it's fab, knly downside is because of what it is,mulch it does just disappear lol..literally just vanishes after a while, rots down with the weather and standing on it..have a few bags spare so that you always have a top up supply being as you have a different colour than the norm as such,to be honest I've never seen black mulch, plenty of the normal stuff though..well enjoy your new area ,get a swing seat in your hexagon & a bbq ..you will be set for years 😊
I hope your black mulch does not bleed color. I have bought red mulch in the past (for flower beds) that bleed terribly when water was applied. Staining hands & clothing. The bleeding resulted in a great amount of fading. Thus, causing replacement sooner than I desired. I can't remember which variety of mulch I purchased. My choice is cedar mulch. Cedar smells good, holds its color, & the durability is great. Living in South Carolina this seems to be a better choice for me. Everything looks wonderful. Can't wait to see your finished area!
Weed barrier will prevent weeds from rooting deeper than the barrier, but weeds will root in the mulch/stones. My suggestion is to use a product called PREEN every spring before weeds start to germinate. You might have to sprinkle this a few times during the summer, but it’s worth it. Weeding (I know this from experience) is backbreaking work. The weed barrier will make weeds pull up easier, but it’s still weeding. Beautiful job!
You guys did a great job and this was an interesting break from furniture! My only concern for you is that the inevitable fire embers that pop out of your firepit don't set your mulch on fire.
I'd be concerned about that as well. That mulch dries out really quickly, especially in that Nebraska wind! It will be so fun to have hot chocolate and roast marshmallows on a chilly night though
When Neiman says "bougie"!!! lolol I can see why you keep him around even though you don't laugh at him too much (at least in your videos). Great job on your new outdoor space.
Well done you two, I bet you just sat back and had that smile on your face with the “we did that”. 👍
My husband and I did many projects ourselves too. On our first house, there was a huge increase in interest rates. Over 12-15% so people ended up walking away from their homes because they couldn’t afford to convert from construction loan to mortgage. (It was in the 80’s and an awful time.)

Exactly 🙌
Love that Neiman is more in the forefront. You make a great team. Great job!!!!

U guys did good that hexagon was precise!
I wanted to originally do the gravel but decided to go with mulch! 😀 thanks for watching!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher You can also get mulch by the truckful - much more cost effective if you need a lot! Good to know for next time :)
Pea gravel is a way better idea than mulch, less flammable!
How fun and something totally new!!!! Thank y’all!!!!

Yes, mostly just hoping for better prevention instead of having weeds everywhere!
Love the drone from the gitgo 👌 Love you two working together 💛

What is bougie?
Oh trust me he tames down a bit for the camera 😂 thanks for watching!
Hey Gina! It just means fancy, over the top, a bit extra, etc.
Amazing enjoy your videos
Great job 👏
thank you!!
It's perfect.
Well done. Isn’t it so satisfying to see your hard work payoff. I knew 12 bags wasn’t gonna cut it. ;)
Sure is! And yes...ended up needing 50!
Good job!
