Love theme from the 1957 movie of the same title as performed by Johnny Mathis. Starring Anna Magnani, Anthony Quinn, and Anthony Franciosa. Music by Dimitri Tiomkin and Lyrics by Ned Washington. Johnny Mathis debuted the pop charts in 1957, placing no less then six songs in the US Billboard charts that year, all of them making the US Top 30. Here's the final one of those six - his last chart entry for 1957 which peaked at #22 Love me, love me; say you do Let me fly away with you For my love is like the wind And wild is the wind Give me more than one caress; Satisfy this hungriness Let the wind blow through your heart For wild is the wind You touch me; I hear the sound of mandolins You kiss me And, with the kiss, the world begins You're spring to me, all things to me; You're life itself! Like a leaf clings to a tree Oh my darling, cling to me For we're creatures of the wind And wild is the wind, the wind Wild is my love for you You touch me; I hear the sound of mandolins You kiss me And, with the kiss, the world begins You're spring to me, all things to me; You're life itself! Like a leaf clings to a tree Oh my darling, cling to me For we're creatures of the wind And wild is the wind, the wind Wild is my love for you
THE LONG STRING OF HIT SONGS MR. JOHNNY MATHIS EXPERIENCED EARLY IN HIS CAREER WAS UTTERLY MAGICAL. AT ONE TIME HE WAS MY FAVORITE MALE VOCALIST, AND THE VOICE I WOULD MOST LIKE TO HAVE POSSESSED. BUT AS THE YEARS WORE ON AND I HEARD SO MANY OTHER OUTSTANDING VOICES, I ENDED UP NOT HAVING A FAVORITE ANYMORE; THERE ARE TOO MANY, GREAT IN THEIR OWN DESTINCTIVE WAYS. ONCE I TRIED TO SOLVE THIS DILEMMA BY WRITING THE NAMES OF A DOZEN OR SO OF MY FAVORITES ON SMALL SLIPS OF PAPER, SHUFFLING THEM AROUND IN A HAT TURNED UPSIDE DOWN, AND DRAWING ONE OUT. THE NAMES INCLUDED: GORDON MACRAE, TONY MARTIN, JIM REEVES, DAVID HOUSTON, SLIM WHITMAN, FARON YOUNG, VIC DAMONE, JACK JONES, ED AMES, STEVE LAWRENCE, GEORGE MORGAN, JOHNNY TILLOTSON, ROY DRUSKY, ROBERT GOULET, JOHNNY DESMOND, DAVID ROGERS, DICK ST. JOHN (of Dick & Dee Dee and BOBBY LEWIS (Country singer, not the pop singer.) THE NAME I PULLED OUT WAS, GUESS WHO... JOHNNY MATHIS!😊 THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IT'S TOO DIFFICULT TO SETTLE ON A FAVORITE RECORDING BY A VOCALIST WHO RECORDED A VAST NUMBER OF SONGS, MUCH LESS A VOCALIST! THERE ARE SO MANY OYHER PROFUNDLY GIFTED RECORDING ARTISTS TO CONSIDER: DANNY WILLIAMS, SLIM WHITMAN, NAT "KING" COLE, JOHN GARY, GENE AUTRY, ERNEST TUBB, NAT STUCKEY, JACK GREEN, JOHNNY RAY, CHARLIE RICH, ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK, PAT BOONE, JERRY WALLACE, CLAUDE GRAY, RAY PRICE, ELVIS PRESLEY, JERRY LEE LEWIS, JOHNNY DARRELL, HANK SNOW, RICK NELSON, JOHNNY DUNCAN, DICK HAYMES, JOE WILLIAMS, TONY WILLIAMS of the PLATTERS, JERRY VALE, FRANKIE LAINE, MARIO LANZA, SAM COOKE, JACKIE WILSON, ROY HAMILTON, BOBBY HATFIELD, GENE PITNEY, JOHNNY HORTON, CHARLEY PRIDE, ARTHUR PRYSOCK, WARNER MACK, DEAN MARTIN, and on and on and on.. THANKS, DEAR TITO.😊 🦢💎🦋🦢💎🦋🦢
@@felixbautista Thanks. It's been a long time since I got carried away like this. Just now I came back and added more to my list. How could I have neglected to put Gordon MacRae on it❓️🙉 I placed him at the top of the list. Hundreds of times I have recommended your video of "ONLY A ROSE," but to no avail that I can see. I listen to that song probably more than any other.😊 (Have you ever noticed how in that phrase from this song: ..."like a leaf clings to a tree," that J. Mathis's pronunciation of the word TREE sounds odd? It's almost as if he doesn't pronounce the letter "r" in the word. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but "tree" doesn't come out of his mouth sounding right to me.🤔😬😊)
Beautiful song! Many thanks.
You're so welcome...... thank you for your fast response.... just finished editing it before you came in.
Excellent song Tito . Have a blessed night.
Wow... am just about to park for the night.... thank you so much.
@@felixbautista your so very welcome Tito .

Love me, love me; say you do
Let me fly away with you
For my love is like the wind
And wild is the wind
Give me more than one caress;
Satisfy this hungriness
Let the wind blow through your heart
For wild is the wind
You touch me;
I hear the sound of mandolins
You kiss me
And, with the kiss, the world begins
You're spring to me, all things to me;
You're life itself!
Like a leaf clings to a tree
Oh my darling, cling to me
For we're creatures of the wind
And wild is the wind, the wind
Wild is my love for you
You touch me;
I hear the sound of mandolins
You kiss me
And, with the kiss, the world begins
You're spring to me, all things to me;
You're life itself!
Like a leaf clings to a tree
Oh my darling, cling to me
For we're creatures of the wind
And wild is the wind, the wind
Wild is my love for you
I truly appreciate your inspiring attention to this video.

@@miltonmoore8369 - I replayed and heard an "r" though kind of vague... I know you like Gordon MacRae.
