TOTAL is the motor oil brand... at 4:14 it's a Škoda Fabia (Czech car manufacturer, owned by Volkswagen) and at 4:56 it's a Citroën DS3 (French car manufacturer, part of PSA concern).
At 8:10 it was the Opel Adam... German car brand, model of little city car.
9:06 it's a typical, artificial chicane, setted up to force the crews to slow down and weave through...
10:06 ...the real Smart cars are way smaller than that... the thing with rallying in little hatchbacks is, they are short, narrow and because of that, very nimble.

When the cars leave service they need to be road legal (they drive on public roads between competitive stages) and parts that are under homologation rules must be present. Usually there's a service in the beginning of the day, mid-day and end of day and competition is spread over two-three days. Also, if the part isn't according to regulation (like few grams too light) competitor may get disqualified. So sometimes they need to use quite a few spare parts during a competition..
rally drivers are special.. the know how to fix maintain and drive these cars. the focus and tuffness are world class
cars must be roadworthy after daily maintenance, so a front bumper is put on them for that reason and also a little bit of aerodynamic.
TOTAL is a sponsor and it is a brand of oil manufacturer :)
They have to have the bumper on because they drive on the streets between the races and they can not loose the identety of the car

At 4:15 you said "Total, whatever that is" 🙂 For the future, its just a sponsor. Total is a brand of MOTOR OIL. The car is Skoda Fabia. It's a Czech brand. I wouldn't say extremely popular nowadays. And as far as I know, as of today, due to very poor sales, they stopped importing Skodas to the US completely. Plz correct me if I'm wrong. They just sold out the leftovers. Nevertheless, Skoda cars are certainly strong rally performers, that is for sure.
the "navigator" is saying left, right, 2nd gear, 130 etc.
Im not a rally driver, but there's few manners to navigate driver:
1) Easy but inaccurate: easy left, hard right, 150 (meters to the next turn)
2) Classic one: left 4 (scaling from 6 to 2 where's 6 is the easiest turn and 2 is almost hairpin)

A family friend who rally's once said to me that rallying is about being in control 99% of the time, that 1% is where you crash.
That being said you really should watch some of the group B rallies from the mid 80's, 400hp+ cars, weighing just over 1 tonne (some lower) and driving with the crowds parting just in time for the cars to pass by, sometimes though spectators wouldn't be lucky and it was common to find fingers and such caught on the cars
For them it's just like "happens". They just get crazier.
Oh, don't worry about the people in the cars. They have astronaut level safety gear, suspension that costs more than most regular cars. Per wheel. With the cage in those, they wouldn't be any safer in a tank..:)

Please have a look at the new GOAT of Rally, Kalle Rovanpera (YT at age of 8, age of 11 and now!), THY!! PS: You're misunderstanding the seriousness of this sport a little... These are nowhere near the cars you think you see from the outside and when you say "There seems to be a lot of work in it", you're VERY right, because the livery maybe is 0,1 to 0.5% of the work that's in these cars. If you would buy a new Factory-Team WRC Car (what noone officially can) you'd propably pay around $25mio, because the car alone, without the immenese development cost, would be 3 to 6 millions (and that's the cheap part) + you need at least a 5 PPL Rally-mechanic crew and 100k a month to run it propperly ;) Only the best 10-20 drivers on the Planet get to ever drive a new factory WRC. Watch Kalle, all F1 drivers are looking up to their skill and respect them more than their colleges ;)✌
