Man for me it's either Joyful Noise, Don't Run Away, What I Said, Moment of Truth and of course Let It Shine. You can't just like one song there's too many bangers

Don’t Run Away is probably in my top 3 songs from any DCOM ever…It’s a staple when my friends and I go on road trips (keep in mind that I watched this movie for the first time when I was like, 8, so there’s a lot of nostalgia behind it)
I think Coco Jones later came out and said that she was supposed to get a full music career and show after this movie, but Disney kept making attempts to pretty much white-wash her and wouldn’t let her create the music she wanted. Then when they weren’t seeing the sales they expected, they practically dropped her and focused on other stars that matched their “image.” Super sad because you can tell that Coco and the other stars of this movie are talented, but held back by bland Disney writing

I'm saying Disney told Coco that Let it Shine was her intro into something bigger, which would lead to a show (KC Undercover...allegedly, not many other black lead shows at the time). This is what was insinuated from her RUclips video a while back. Disney apparently didn't want to continue afterwards with her and Zendaya probably just decided to step in since, like you said, it was her show and they needed to get it going. Again this is just what me and a lot of other people assumed after hearing why she no longer works with Disney. 🤷🏾♀️

I’m so glad billy realized they were going for a kid version Nicki Minaj with coco jones character. I definitely see it with the pink streaks and her background dancers with the pink bob also the animation they gave coco when she rapped … she kinda ate that
The summer of 2012 was the best for Disney Channel and for the 2000s kids. This was one of the last good DCOMS they made that soundtrack, gospel music and the rap battle was awesome. Fun Fact this was Coco Jones first movie and she was 14 while Tyler James Williams was 19 when this filmed.
We got a first collab on the channel Billy?! OK!!! Let it Shine is one of those underrated DCOMs I swear. I love each and every one of the songs. Crazy to think I was 13 when this came out! They don’t make movies like this anymore. Definitely in my favorite DCOM list!
This movie is fire, I was 16 when this came out and it surprised me how good it was, not only representing black people in a light by Disney no less, but also teaching stepping into your own with your talents Guardian Angel is my favorite one
I feel like we were able to ignore some of the cringier moments because we were younger and appreciated having almost an entire cast that looked like us. Guardian Angel was a good song tho ngl!

This might be controversial, but the dad's attitude towards rap, that it's "the devil's music" brought to mind how religion was weaponized against different demographics and felt like he was saying what was made by the black man is inherently evil (indirect messaging that's passed off in some toxic churches)

Word is...Disney had a hard time styling African American hair and clothes. They pretty much had a set formula for the kids and it wasn't "us-friendly". The movie is VERY dated, but its hard to get over the styling to see the talent.
Ngl, ya'lls commentary had me in shambles. Real life tears streaming during this. I also don't remember it being this corny or the outfits being that bad but this is still one of my all time favorite dcoms.

Omg this movie!! Such an underrated gem!! I didn't even notice Chloe and Halle were in this and I just rewatched it several months ago. 🤦🏿♂️ It is wild tho to see how far they have come in addition to Coco Jones, Tyler James Williams, and Trevor Jackson. Rags is another great movie with KeKe Palmer that came out the same year on Nickelodeon. Sn: I peeped Mello's shirt change halfway through the movie

Let It Shine came out after I stopped watching Disney and DCOMs and judging from this, I'm glad I stopped watching when I did because even if I was still a children when this came out, I refuse to believe I would've liked those horrible lyrics. And I'm mad they got Angela Bassett husband up in here playing a preacher again, this time without Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington.

Love this movie! Disney was lacking on their movies and then they dropped this movie out of nowhere and its one of my favorites
Word is...Disney had a hard time styling African American hair and clothes. They pretty much had a set formula for the kids and it wasn't "us-friendly". The movie is VERY dated, but its hard to get over the styling to see the talent.
