Please try and save your blue cochin! When I see chicks struggling, I get their food wet and make sure they eat it. Also adding Nutri-Drench (vitamins) helps. Best of luck!
I received chick very similar in March. She was incredibly lethargic and had her eyes closed all the time. Along with save a chick I gave her egg yolk only for the first day then gave her mushy scrambled egg for a few days and now she’s the baddest hen in the yard. Wishing you good luck!
I got 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes and 3 Americaunas who just turned 6 weeks old. Your videos have helped me immensely since I'm a 1st time chicken mama. Thank you for that! ❤️
We're getting our first chicks tomorrow and this video was extremely timely. Please continue sharing their progress, including when things don't right. I see too many videos that make everything seem perfect and don't mention how to deal situations when things don't go according to plan. I've been following you since we decided to get chickens and you've been incredibly helpful. keep up the good work.
I love watching your videos! This is our first year starting a homestead and raising chickens and your videos have really helped us out. Thank you so much for all the useful information you provide!
So happy for you! Congratulations Momma 😙 our Welsummer lays deep chocolate speckled eggs, you'll love them. She is also super loud and proud when she lays. Our Wyandott hen lays eggs that are between 60grams and 58 grams depending on the season.
Omg I’m obsessed with the polish chicks! Their all so cute. I had a handicapped silkie chicken, and she had a seizure last night and sadly passed away. Both her legs kinda stuck out to the side so she couldn’t really walk to well so we kept her inside.
Congrats on new chicks and new baby on the way!! (I live in Houston area of Texas, hot/humid) My mommy hen,,(not sure of her breed as she was a neighbor's) hatched 2 chicks, 1 on Monday & 1 on Tuesday. Thursday I bought 4 - 2 week old chicks from the feed store .. 2 Easter Eggers & 2 Light Brahams. Well of course Mommy didn't want the extra chicks (I was so hopeful!) She'd done well in Feb with her 1st hatching ..well not so good with her newest 2, seems she could care less, but she was overly aggressive the 4 feed store chicks.. Anyway I moved all six chicks to the top shelf of my coop. The chicks are all doing great & Mommy & her Feb baby (Gray Winnie) are going about their business like nothing ever happened..lol
I just got five checks this week. 3 silver laced Wyandottes and 2 barred rock. All are supposed to be pullets but time will tell, lol 😂 I use the same chick starter and grit as you showed in your video.
I was told that you put stones or more like Rocks in their water container as the chances are they may drown if you put little rocks in there they have to put their beak between the rocks to get water I am trying this year to incubate my own chicks I've got 60 eggs in and they are due to hatch within the next few days let the fun times begin
I have chicks that are turning 3 weeks old your videos are so helpful mine were never that tiny though. I wanted all the types of Wyandottes, but we only got 3 silver laced all wyandottes are really pretty. Name the Rhode Island Red Rhoda , just an idea. Please keep us updated on your baby!
Wait so you ARE moving to the farm property?? :D Did I miss something? That's so exciting!! The chicks are so cute. Also exciting that you can get a rooster now :) I would love to see a life update!
We had one of our blue Cochins arrive dead from the same hatchery 😞 I wonder if they had issues with that breed this year. The other one had terrible pasty butt but is doing fine now. All the speckled Sussex and buff rocks we got were super healthy though.
My experience with birds is limited to raising cockatiels and budgies. Our dog, Rosie, would cry when one of our birds was on the floor. We clipped their wings and had them out on an open playpen. I'm hoping my chihuahuas will behave in a similar protective manner when I begin raising chickens.
I've heard you can scramble the chick, an egg. I've never had to do it, but it may be worth a try to save him, if he will eat it. Congratulations on your little belly too!
The more I have done my research the more I have noticed that a lot of chicks tend to be born with deformities, I’m just surprised, more common then I expected
How is the Rooster that was wobbly any update on him. Oh, by the way congrats having a baby. What are you having? I'm an Aunt as well to my oldest sister had 2 boys and they have GF. And I have a Niece from my brother that my family and I adopted from South Korea he's married to my sister-in-law. That had a daughter. I love baby chicks I use to remember raising baby chicks that my teacher hatch some meat chickens oh boy i had 2 rooster that I wasn't happy about, I was hoping to have females chicks.
This is a great video, about to get my first barred rocks, did you leave the lid off the plastic container when you kept the chicks in it, how long did you keep them like this before putting them in the coop? Till what age must the chicks use the brooding lamp? We are out in manitoba canada, gets quite cold here, and when would they go without any heating or do they need it all through life in the snowy cold?
You can fix the toes on that Polish chick...if you take a piece of light cardboard, like on a pad of paper or a business card, and cut a small "shoe" from it, then tape the foot flat on that. You can use medical tape, or you can use vet wrap. The chick only needs to wear the shoe for about 3-5 days. The sooner the better to correct those toes though, if you wait too long this method won't work.
I bought 2 easter eggers pullets and now come to find out they're a breed called silver spangled Hamburg chickens. Idk how to feel about it I was excited about colorful eggs😂
I've heard Rhode Island Reds can be aggressive and mean to some of the other more docile breeds. Are you planning to keep your Red with the Easter Eggers? Do you think they'll get along okay? I've not had chickens yet but look forward to getting some in the future and was wondering about the compatibility of the breeds!
Can you please tell me how old the chicks have to be before you give them the black fly soldier larvae? I want to train them for recall. Thank you, Tom
I’m in Kenosha- I was going to get the polish crested hat chickens, but read they weren’t cold hardy. Did you do anything special for them or did they do ok over the winter?
How many can i start with? Is 4 chicks ok? We live in an hoa community so i am doing it inside our house and will let them out in our backyard a few times a day when they are older
so apparently polish chicks are hard to care for, but I never knew this and my one polish is 5 years old and fine, this time we got 2 baby polish ladies. both died in 20 hours. I feel so bad but im not getting any more polish.
Paper towel! I wish this video was out before I received my chicks the were always getting bedding in their food and water. Since they are bigger now I have their food on bricks. Congratulations on your pregnancy, be sure to have a Doula whether you have a midwife for a homebirth or birthing Center or go to the house. Read The Birth Partner by Simkin its in its 5th edition. Be well and be safe. Peace
That's another question I have, it's September 4th, is it to late this year to get chicks? Or should we prepare now and wait until the spring to get our first chicks?
And here I thought you were only moving your lifestock to the farm down the road, but it sounded like you are moving homes too. Haven't you just renovated a ton on your house?
Please help!!! We have backyard chickens & we're from Alabama. I've been raising them for almost 3 years now & for the first time we've come across a bad problem. We have 3 hens that roost constantly lately, 2 will leave their roost momentarily but the one won't! I've had to put her food and water right there with her and the problem is.... She's been sitting on her egg pile that continues to grow and grow and grow and GROW to the point that now there's a pile that's no longer being sat on & they're way past 21 days and no baby chicks and they're stinking so bad!! But to try and move her off the eggs makes her fighting mad! WHAT SHOULD WE DO?? Please someone, anyone... HELPPPPPPPPPPP
Take away the eggs. She will fight you. It needs to be done. Then put her in a crate with the bottom taken out. This will cause air flow to the belly. Look up a broody hen. You will have to break her of her broodyness

My chicks arrived today. Been binge watching your videos to get informed on chick care. Thanks for the videos!
I love watching your videos! This is our first year starting a homestead and raising chickens and your videos have really helped us out. Thank you so much for all the useful information you provide!

I was just going to look for THIS exact topic!!! beautiful!!
Good morning. Perfect timing. I just hatched my first batch of eggs on 6/11/21
My BLRW, Rose, is one of our favorites. First time chicken owners, they are about 13 weeks now and she is the sweetest.
My chicks came today. This helps. Thank you 💜
Yes!! We want to hear all of the updates! 💜
So happy for you! Congratulations Momma 😙 our Welsummer lays deep chocolate speckled eggs, you'll love them. She is also super loud and proud when she lays. Our Wyandott hen lays eggs that are between 60grams and 58 grams depending on the season.
Congratulations! You're gonna be a Mom! Don't hide anything,, Be Proud!!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear you lost her. 😞
Wow how beautiful I'm excited about these new baby chicks and how exciting about your pregnancy as well congratulations you look beautiful ❤️
We love getting our chicks. We received 40 this year! Lots of eggs in the late summer!! Cheers from Minnesota!
Yay! So happy for you! We just got ducklings!
Congrats on new chicks and new baby on the way!! Try a little scrambled egg for the blue cochin... Hopefully he pulls through! Beautiful chicks! ❤️
Good timing on the series, I just got my first chicks 2 days ago
Wow the wellsummer chicken looks like it has eye makeup on
Love your video! We’ll be getting some chickens soon this summer. I’m super excited!
Thank you for the informative videos! Best wishes. 😁
If you see this did the last chicken make it or did he pass away? Thanks!
I was told that you put stones or more like Rocks in their water container as the chances are they may drown if you put little rocks in there they have to put their beak between the rocks to get water I am trying this year to incubate my own chicks I've got 60 eggs in and they are due to hatch within the next few days let the fun times begin
The chicks are so cute 🐥❤️
I read you should wait a few hours before adding feed and only give them water at first it's better for them to have plenty of water before eating.
Cute! Would you ever have broilers or are you strictly interested in them for eggs/pets? I'm definitely branching out on breeds next year 🥰
Great video! Good luck with them!
Colloidal silver is good and acv in their water.
i have 2 golden laced wyandottes who are just starting to lay they are very pretty
Wait so you ARE moving to the farm property?? :D Did I miss something? That's so exciting!! The chicks are so cute. Also exciting that you can get a rooster now :) I would love to see a life update!
great video! Sydney, Australia is in lockdown atm...I cant wait to get more chicks!
Congratulations soon to be mom and dad! Hope all your chicks remain healthy!!

I had to read this one a few times lol
The more I have done my research the more I have noticed that a lot of chicks tend to be born with deformities, I’m just surprised, more common then I expected
Next time you should show a picture of the adult breed. Cute chicks though :D
Congratulations on all your baby’s!👶🏼🐥 I’m in WI too! Where are you from?

Try Soaking your chick feed for the slower one a couple of days of feeding.
We have 2 black laced silver Wyandotte’s and they lay small eggs
This is a great video, about to get my first barred rocks, did you leave the lid off the plastic container when you kept the chicks in it, how long did you keep them like this before putting them in the coop? Did the fluffy baby make it?

Did the rooster make it?
Love your videos! Have a stupid question - has anyone you know of used a heating pad covered for chicks?
I bought 2 easter eggers pullets and now come to find out they're a breed called silver spangled Hamburg chickens. Idk how to feel about it I was excited about colorful eggs😂
nice job
I've heard Rhode Island Reds can be aggressive and mean to some of the other more docile breeds. Are you planning to keep your Red with the Easter Eggers? Do you think they'll get along okay? These are the only kind of “hot chics” my wife lets me watch on RUclips.
Can you please tell me how old the chicks have to be before you give them the black fly soldier larvae? I want to train them for recall. Thank you,
Tom
I’m in Kenosha- I was going to get the polish crested hat chickens, but read they weren’t cold hardy. Did you do anything special for them or did they do ok over the winter?
did the chick make it ok?
Nice
How is the Jersey Giant Rooster doing now? Is he pretty docile?
What happened with the sickie?
Hello, I have heard you mention a temperature chart for chicks but I can never seem to find your link.
Did your black roster make it? They are all so cute. Hope to get 3 soon.
How many can i start with? Is 4 chicks ok? We live in an hoa community so i am doing it inside our house and will let them out in our backyard a few times a day when they are older
HI! WHERE DO YOU ORDERED THEM?
What brand of food do you give your 12 week old chickens.
You should name the Rhode island read bumbles
so apparently polish chicks are hard to care for, but I never knew this and my one polish is 5 years old and fine, this time we got 2 baby polish ladies. both died in 20 hours. I feel so bad but im not getting any more polish.
Where do you get them
How long should we keep our baby chicks indoors. They 6 days old today (6/13/22) we are in Florida and there’s no chance of cold nights outside.
Where can you order chicks in singletons? The places I found require ordering more than one of each breed.
Peace
Yes to a doula! Also, Babies Aren’t Pizza’s is a great, quick read!
Im new to this channel, but tell me she had a boy from this pregnancy? Congrats either way!
I heard that you should put pebbles in the waterer so the baby chicks don’t accidentally drown? Is that a thing?
Now how are you keeping the chicks cooled in this humid weather it's crazy here to but adorable chickens you make me miss mine already
Baby chicks need warmth. Not cool. An adult chicken needs lots of ice water and frozen treats
Congratulations on your impending little acorn! Did the weak little guy make it?
At how old do you start putting pine shavings bedding?
Around a week
How long to the chicks stay inside before moving to an outdoor coop
Around 6-8 weeks!
That's another question I have, it's September 4th, is it to late this year to get chicks? Or should we prepare now and wait until the spring to get our first chicks?
To have ready to lay eggs layers then late season chicks, for meat birds early season to all season round.
And here I thought you were only moving your lifestock to the farm down the road, but it sounded like you are moving homes too. Haven't you just renovated a ton on your house?
How old are the chicks when you start giving them chick grit?
Did the poor thing pull through I've been going through a lot of videos and haven't seen anything
I am trying to order chicks now but they work be delivered until 2022
Please help!!! We have backyard chickens & we're from Alabama. I've been raising them for almost 3 years now & for the first time we've come across a bad problem. Hope your dogs are well disciplined around chicks. They might be a snack to them. Lol
My rooster doesn’t look half as pretty as yours. Mine is really annoying and a trouble maker
