The color of the vehicle has no bearing on the "hardnes/softness". The clear coat determines that.

You are absolutely correct my friend, and a mistake on my part for wording it like that. I guess after polishing so many different cars we end up with tendencies.

If you were wearing a headlamp and had lights on the floor pointing up, you'd be able to see the defects as you were working.
I'd suggest you look into getting a Bosche dual action sander, 6 inch with dual mode.
I'm glad to see someone using a stool to sit on rather than kneeling down wrecking their knees.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try the headlamp.

@@mintypremiumdetail2720 I spent 40 years detailing cars and went from cars painted with lacquer to modern paint, from carnuba wax to ceramic. I was here through the whole switch from rotary polishers to these dual action wastes of time.... If you want me to work with you let me know. Send a link where I can contact you - not your email here obviously.

Why does he keep referencing the “paint” and not “clear coat”?

Enjoyed the video. I'm just getting into polishing on my solid black truck. It's 16 years old and t don't believe it's ever been polished. The roof looks pretty bad, so I figured I'd try it first.
I bought a 5" da and it came with 3 pads, yellow, black and burgundy. I also have a bottle of Farecla G360 that was given to me.
I used the yellow pad and it made it shiny, but there's a lot of 'fogginess' under the shine. Should I use the coarser pad, or just do more passes? I don't want to destroy the clear coat.
Sorry this is long, just trying to learn. Thanks.

Its hard for me to tell you which pad and compound will do what because every brand offers those in different grit levels. I’d look at the brand you have and see what grit they say each product is. Go off of that!
Based on that you can build a 2 step system. One cut step and one polish step. Let me know if this helps get you started.

It's a Wen, and the company told me that the yellow pad was medium.

I believe I'm trying to do paint correction on the roof. It was pretty dull, and after polishing it, I still see a cloudy finish underneath.
This is the first time I've ever used a polisher, so I'm trying to take it low and slow.
Thanks for your quick responses, not trying to be a pest.

@@randysmith1630A paint correction is 2 steps. One more aggressive cut stage and following up with a softer polishing stage to refine it.
Are you using a compound or a polish? Do you have both?
Which one of your pads is a cutting pad? I would start with this one and do 3 passes on speed 4.5. If you’re seeing oxidation you will have to use a compound and a cutting pad.
