  • McLaren-Mercedes showed lots of promise on Friday - and the momentum continued into qualifying, with Lando Norris taking the pole by 0.022sec from his team-mate, Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen starts P3 for Red Bull, 0.024 away from Piastri, ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Both George Russell (Mercedes) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) failed to make it out of Q1, Russell due to a fuelling error and Perez after catching a slippery chicane kerb and spinning into the barrier. Peter Windsor looks back at the day's events.

      This has to be the play. Give Danny Ric one more go in the car he was so successful in. Yuki is also very deserving but he is also known for some mistakes from time to time, and he's unproven being in a top car with the extra pressure which is a big factor. Daniel Ricciardo is proven at that stage and can win races. Most importantly, Danny Ric's driving style matches the RBR. We have seen many solid drivers (Albon, Gasly, Perez) who can't extract the maximum out of it.

      @@hmika215Oscar needs to out qualify Lando then, if he was on pole today, McLaren would be giving him the same support, just as they would have used Lando as a road block in Monaco, if it wasn’t for the red flag ruining everything. The instruction will be, don’t take each other out and don’t let max win. McLaren are only interested in maximum constructors points, it is the biggest prize in F1. Nobody in that team seriously thinks Lando has a chance of the drivers title, his battle is for second, which he should easily be able to achieve.

  • @zlm001
    @zlm001 Месяц назад +3

    McLaren needs to calm down and the whole team seemed much calmer today. They need to race like their main objective is to maximize points no matter what happens or where there are at any given point in the race. You can’t treat every single decision like a life and death situation. Last race especially it seemed like each decision they were gambling for a win rather than just making the safest decision. Every decision doesn’t need to be the genius, race winning decision. Just play the probabilities with the safe choices, because you will lose most of the time if you take risky bets that might gain lots of time but rarely pay off.

    It's definitely going to come down to tires, unless there's lots of crashes and they decide the thing. But tires will be the thing that wears out before the end, it will come down to who can manage their tires, and who has the right allocation of compounds to give them a chance to charge after the last stop. Norris is good at this, Max is brilliant, Oscar has had trouble with his tires getting used up too soon. I'm thinking Lando/Max 1 and 2, with Oscar maybe 3 or back in the midfield due to tire deg.

      Max knows that the RB20 is not competitive enough anymore and that it‘ll most likely only get worse as the year goes on.
      There‘a only so much Max and the brilliant operational team at RB can do but if the raw pace isn‘t there then you‘ll always have to rely on the faster teams to make mistakes.
      That‘s why Max is so frustrated lately ( also today where he openly criticised the lack of performance of the RB20 since China).
