sad news that Charlie pass away , he will be miss but the music will go on for ever long after i have gone , have seen the TRS a good few times over the years , but will all ways remember the one time at the old Wembley stadium ,at the end of the concert Mick and the boys got behind Charlie and push him to the front or the stage and said he was to old to get up :(
This is the Stones at there potent peak ...definitely the best RR band in the world at that time , Jagger's voice is better than on the record ..the boys are not bad to
Jagger packin led ... no more to be said...Altamont and Jones grieved and buried - Stones firing all cylinders baby.. and they are all still alive - JESUS CHRIST hell wont take yet...
Oh yeah! Keef and Mick Taylor!! You couldn't ask for a better setup than that while running lead vocals. Mr. Jagger you have to admit that those two deeply contributed to the fame of the Stones!
I wish Mick had put more effort in his vocals on tour in the 70’s and early 80’s His voice is spot on in this clip, a great Jagger vocal as his unique way Subsequent tours he got lazy vocally and tended to bark out lyrics Still he’s my favourite vocalist of all time
" At least he's fun to watch and not the boring shit we see live these days." Quite, who cares how he dressed, he was one of the original great front-men, has many, many imitators, if you doubt this, watch "The Hives." And, there's the little deal of having co-written 20 or so of the greatest, most iconic rock songs ever, along with possessing one of the greatest, most iconic singing voices with which to put them across! The stuff will be played so long as there machines to play it on!
@RobFace10101 good call brother the rolling stones are awesome i think he dresses pretty cool and i enjoy the entire band 100% keep the greatest rock band coming to the usa .keep me tuned brother
when you are sad , just play this loud ,and it will make you feel good just like the sun is out and you feel happy and good , enjoy your life as you only have one life so enjoy life. Love and peace to all :) 6/9/2020 :)
@swimologist8: Bill Wyman was the bass player, so it would be kind of odd for him to be hitting Carlie Watts' cymbals. It was pretty rare at that time for bands to be allowed to play live when appearing on TV shows. Usually it would only be the vocals that were live (sometimes not even those). There were exceptions, but it was just faster & cheaper for the shows to do things that way - the bands didn't have much say in the matter. Btw, "lip syncing" would mean that he *wasn't* singing live.
@shimokita2 I guess he was considered when Brian Jones and then Mick Taylor left, but the BBC did not do their research very well. The version of Brown Sugar that he appeared on was recorded on December 18th 1970 with Al Kooper on Piano, and it would have been Keith Richards' twenty-seventh birthday. This was more than eighteen months after Mick Taylor joined, and more than a year after it was recorded at Muscle Shoals.
I love the video... But if you listen even relatively closely, you'll notice that everything besides Mick's singing is very close to the studio version of the song on Sticky Fingers. In fact it's identical. That's because it's playback. The only person performing live in this video is Mick.
William Wilson, TOTP was like that. The program did not want full playback and at the same time they did not have the time to set up the studio for a full live recording, so they just added the live vocals, which was easy to do.
Pop music TV shows made most of the performer's "fake play" the instruments... That's a shame because this version would be great to see and hear Mick Taylor play
@shimokita2 Clapton, Butler, Bruce, Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Keith Richards were all part of the same London R+B scene in the early 1960s. Ronnie Wood ended up playing with both Stewart and the Stones, but they were all a (musically) close bunch. I doubt Clapton would have joined the Stones, as he was a soloist. Stones guitarists just play very complicated rhythm guitar. But, if anything ever happened to Mick, I bet Rod Stewart back then would have been the first person they asked
interesting, it sounded pre recorded and at first I thought is was the single and they were miming the song, a common practice, but the vocal was different and in some ways the backing too...confused.
Every live performance from the first performance of the song at the infamous Altamont Speedway in California in 1969 to Australia in 1973 sounds different. Not necessarily better, not worse. Just different. Personally, I prefer their live sound of this song especially on the 1972 tour.
They aren't renown for their live precision...and that's part of the attraction. It's raw, it's subtle, it's Keith and Ron/Mick/Brian trading off each other like a musical tsunami. Charlie trying to keep up, figure out where Keith is going.....and Ronnie, bless his heart, kicking Keith in the head and saying "Fuck that, watch this!" But where they lack in that precision they more than make up for in work ethic. Height of their party animal days they played like life itself was at stake. Twenty years later in Philly, 1994, hard rain, high winds, cold temps....and they played a 3.5 hour set. Twenty more years and they go at it even harder. They give every show everything they have...they honor their fans by shoving incredible licks down our throats with our blessings. I still think of Ronnie as the new guy.
So true. They're not neat, trim boy scouts. Its all part of the allure. Raw. Rowdy. Raucous. Hedonistic. Debauched. You want a neat little package that sounds just like the studio version, with a bunch of stiffs sitting on stools, go see the fucking eagles because you dont get it.
I always hated the fake playing. Jagger is actually singing live. But the drummer shots are silly. Charlie Watts is not keeping time with the cymbal splashes.
Jagger is lip-syncing to the studio song. You can tell because at 1:01 and 1:06 Bill Wyman doesn't hit a cymbal, though you hear one. Plus is you look, the cymbals aren't miked at all, and there would have to be a mike somewhere close to get that sound. Plus the sax player isn't Bobby Keys, but he plays the solo note perfect. There is no difference at all. Impossible to do. So this is all fake except Mick's singing.
Rock and Roll at its best!!!! Anyone actually like that crap that was the Superbowl halftime show this year. Someone build a time machine quick before music is lost
The best, and purest, rock and roll song ever recorded.
Agreed.
@RobFace10101
He's also an unbelievable singer. No modern guys could rip it out like a 1970s jagger did.
So much passion, and energy in the voice.
sad news that Charlie pass away , he will be miss but the music will go on for ever long after i have gone , have seen the TRS a good few times over the years , but will all ways remember the one time at the old Wembley stadium ,at the end of the concert Mick and the boys got behind Charlie and push him to the front or the stage and said he was to old to get up :(
Mick showing everybody what "Rockstar" means. Classic Stones.
This is the Stones at there potent peak ...definitely the best RR band in the world at that time , Jagger's voice is better than on the record ..the boys are not bad to
What an outfit Mick. I salute you
He can pull the shit off easily, I dont get it lol
Haha is Keith playing a transparent guitar?
Thanks for uploading this in High Quality. This is so cool!
that is a dan armstrong guitar and very very heavy; i tested one in music store back in the day....very heavy but great sustain......
loooooooove this!
i'm so happy!!! thanks a 70's performance one of my favorites:-)
Mick has an awesome drug-squint going - he's massively stoned.
Wanted to see The Stones live since '70. Finally got the chance in Toronto at the concert following SARS...Mick can still strut...amazing!
Mick****Majestic***
Pink Panther Suit****Sizzling***
Purrr-fect Performance!!!
Stones Still Strong.
Thank you for posting the entire series!
Это-моя любовь и хит на всю жизнь!
Jagger packin led ... no more to be said...Altamont and Jones grieved and buried - Stones firing all cylinders baby.. and they are all still alive - JESUS CHRIST hell wont take yet...
Gotta love the choo choo dance at the beginning. Hahaha, sweet moves Mick.

This is a fucking great clip, just a shame that the frame is small..
Hell of a good one!
Glorious!
Keith has a mic set up in front of him but forgets to sing XD
Very good performance.
Oh yeah! Keef and Mick Taylor!! You couldn't ask for a better setup than that while running lead vocals. Mr. Jagger you have to admit that those two deeply contributed to the fame of the Stones!
wow love it! yeah yeah yeah yeah ......
I wish Mick had put more effort in his vocals on tour in the 70’s and early 80’s

Subsequent tours he got lazy vocally and tended to bark out lyrics

Gimme me some brown sugar indeed!
Except for Mick's live vocals here, the underlying music is the audio track from the album cut. Its exactly the same.
Yeah, that guy playing Bobby Keys part totally fake.
Great!!!

There is only one Mick!!

Remember everyone...there are girls, and there are hot black girls
😍😍😍🙌🏻😍😍😍
@jaystarstar They already did and still are. What are you talking about?
The sound is ideal, to tell the truth.
@redlinechavez Yes, he is. It's quite a heavy guitar.
@redlinechavez
Yep, it's a Dan Armstrong guitar.
@spacewithace1997 Well said!
Pop music TV shows made most of the performer's "fake play" the instruments... That's a shame because this version would be great to see and hear Mick Taylor play
First TOTP I watched in glorious colour. They did Bitch that night too?
@RobFace10101 well said.
lol brilliant comeback
all you haters should just leave the stone fans here to bask in the glory of gods
@shimokita2

@alanbmx321 i got a time machine if you want one mate!
What! The Stones recorded Brown Sugar in 1969 but Mick Jagger wrote the song 1970 WTF something is f...up with your timeline people.
Great audio, too bad the video couldn't match it.
na casa de julio no 71 mais ou memos,jjjj
ofcourse they sound super or it is prebacked studio
or even playback all together
nevertheless +++++
+Albert van egmond They're miming to a pre-recorded track. That's why there's thick cardboard taped to Charlie's drums.

@Roachenator And ya know what? Fred would have agreed with you!
@shimokita2
Rod Stewart/Jagger and Wood/Richards were very similar artists back in 1971.
Both influenced each other
Chris, the Faces were great but the Stones were the "influencers", it was not a two way thing.
@jaystarstar come on man the rolling stones are the best fucking band in the world
Ugliest too.
Sex on legs-nuff said...
@ppetracco
Yes...because HE just could!....
@jaystarstar laughing my ass off
Sky dog slaver ya know he doin allright
Good god, could the lead singer be dressed more ridiculously?
Live vocal. Dubbed trax.
Interracial coitus and miscegenation lives
I actually like the live vocals over the recorded track......i've seen the Stones at least 3 times and they butcher all my faves.
They aren't renown for their live precision...and that's part of the attraction. It's raw, it's subtle, it's Keith and Ron/Mick/Brian trading off each other like a musical tsunami. I always hated the fake playing. Jagger is actually singing live. But the drummer shots are silly. Charlie Watts is not keeping time with the cymbal splashes.
Man Mick is so ugly. LOL But cool as hell.

Vocals are live, music is canned.
