I do armored trucks, I'm baffled at how common it is for new guys to tailgate other drivers with our trucks. Like bro, back off, you're not going to be racing anyone in a 25,000lb armored truck. When someone crashes into us, they walk away with bruises. When we crash into someone, they fucking die. Slow down and stop tailgating.

@alliwantisfinancialstabili7414 the most stressful part for me was learning the different ATM systems - specifically the ones that are loaded from the front in very crowded areas. Like how can I watch the people around us if I'm trying to figure out how to login and where the receipt rolls go in?

The fork on the vest is hilarious. I work narcotics in a big city in Europe. We dress like the suspects; hoodies, sweatpants, blue jeans, tracksuits and baseball caps of bucket hats. Don't forget the fake gold chain. We get stopped by uniform officers often. And dealers think we're junkies. Look like a junkie not like a cop, thats the goal. We carry no gear: just a radio, handcuffs and a pistol. A kevlar vest is easy to spot even under a hoody, so that stays in the car. Suspects with a gun are very rare. Knives are more common and cars are most dangerous. Living life on the edge and the thrill of the hunt I guess.

My department won’t let us dress down while we are shadowing. So I always usually show up a minute or two after my trainee and stand outside to eavesdrop or stand at the back. If people try to talk to me I say “I don’t know, I just got here. You should talk to that officer.”

Totally agree that training people takes so much emotional and mental energy out of you, on top of an already really social and stressful job. I work security right now and I'm constantly training new people, if they in fact actually show up which is a rarity. The difference with training in security compared to training a new cop is that new cops typically can write and speak English pretty well, and drive a car properly. Not the case with security unfortunately, so i tend to end up being, an English teacher and navigator on top of actually teaching the do's and don'ts of the job. The candidates simply aren't, most of the time, the caliber of people that make it into police work. I've supervised in security for several years and being the brains for an entire group of people at times is so taxing and the sheer aww of the ridiculousness that transpires in security is even more taxing. Gladly i won't be in security for much longer because I'm finally in a position to start applying to departments in my state (finally passed the PT test) and I'm in a couple of other hiring processes out of state currently too. The challenge right now is deciding which department I want to go to😬🤦 I've got lots of tough decisions to make regarding choosing which of my options is going to be best for me to go work 25+ years at. But I'm excited to see what transpires in the next few months. Nice to see you sir! Stay safe out there! 🙂I

@ FFT Just food for thought & not dogging the kubaton(I upgraded to the asp defender from Monadnock but I remember when everyone had one & if you took the class it does come in very useful) but something else I carried for court and dressing down ASP makes a great lightweight clip on baton called the Agent & Protector (one push button one, other strike close) depending where worn is where it's carried but in a pocket clip looks like a knife clip. It offers a secondary option, I usually like to have it & not need it vs other.
Also the fork is a great touch but think SOG makes a metal spork ha

Tommy, a video on lateral officer FTO process would be a good topic.
I’ve got four years on in a small agency and I’m looking to leave. For both a bigger agency and another state. I know every state handles certification a bit different, but generally you don’t have to go through a complete academy. And many agencies will do an abbreviated FTO for lateral officers. But I’m not quite sure what that looks like.
    What’s your experience with laterals?

This is other than SWAT & Patrol Officers. Police detectives are still police officers but wear different uniforms & don’t need a marked patrol car for their job. Same applies to other divisions to like drug squad for example. Administrators like the police chief don’t need marked patrol cars to. They’re usually gonna meet with the mayor or do other administrative things & a marked patrol car doesn’t suit their needs very well.

I personally think that if you work for the City, and not working narcotics, gang task force, or any high level criminal task force, you are in uniform. Us tax payers pay for the uniforms, so use them unless its more practical to be covert. You admitted that looking like a jump out boy looks cool. Your (law enforcement) job is to protect and serve. That's why we pay you. We don't pay you to look cool. And this is coming from a former bondsman that has been undercover many times to arrest my skips. We have our office shirts to conduct business in the office, but that wouldn't be practical when we go out to hunt, since our only objective is to turn the fugitive into the jail. A beat cop's job is the general protect and serve. You know how many wanna be cops out there that pull people over? Lots. And if you pull me over and not visibly a legit law enforcement officer, my window is not going down for you, and my legally concealed firearm is within reach. The world has changed, especially in pro gun states. Be aware of that fact in regards to officer safety.

@Bad Drivers Of The NorCal Area actually, since I make 6 figures, I automatically pay more in taxes. I literally could buy this dude's life 5× over. And I'm glad I don't have experience as a cop. I've done the job BETTER when it comes to investigating, skip tracing (finding people), and arresting, and downtown Greeley, CO. can attest to that. Long story short: active murder investigation of Eric Maxwell, last year April. I arrested one guy who was in direct correlation of what happened. Put him in jail, went after the next guy. Evans PD was already on scene, 6 deep. We find out the current guy I was after is also associated with the murder. Both of these cats are cartel. We were told to back off cause it was still an active murder case. Respectfully, we did. However, guess who was getting info on the guy's whereabouts? I was. Guess who was being hated for not taking the case seriously? Greeley and Evans PD. I was getting hits left and right from the streets of the dude's whereabouts. The public HATES law enforcement, cause law enforcement have proved over the years that they don't actually give a shit about civilians. I, a bondsman at the time, was being trusted over TWO law enforcement agencies. To cops, this case was just another 12 hour shift. To us? We had 100k riding on this hunt, and that kind of money can really hurt a bail bonds company. Not only that, coincidently, we ran into and met the victims mom and sister when we were hitting shitty motels. We witnessed a mother's and sister's pain over their loss. When law enforcement treated them like absolute shit, the victims mom, sister, and half of Greeley, CO. turned to me to get the job done.
