There seems to be alot of confusion in the comment section. This is finnish defence forces live fire exercise. Leopard 2a4 which has mounted MG3 machine gun and the AK rifle is east german MPI-KM which is used by vehicle crews. They were acquired when we bought 2S1 self-propelled howitzers from germany in 90's
@@WW5RM dont know their exact service history but since we have alot of soviet armored vehicles still in use and the mbt before leo 2 was t72 we propably had a huge stock pile of them and they chose to use them rather than buy new ones before they were worn out.

Well it's point blank,12 o'clock, with the turret perfectly aligned beforehand. The commander had eyeball on the target before the gunner so it would have been a total desaster if it took any longer.
Both the commader and gunner sights have thermals and great magnification ability so acquiring targets is rather easy. Not to forget how well the turret/gun is stabilized, that gun will stay on target even on rough terrain while moving.
in real life...Germany deserves the most powerful Tiger Tank....to defend themselves...after World War II they do not want to be occupied by Soviets anymore. I don't blame them now if they had over 9,000 tigers and tiger II's and Jagdtigers and Jagdpanthers we all be speaking German. accept it,they are good for making great military equipment,which is why I like two things Rommel and DAK!

KissaKala it’s most likely Finland. You can see it from the East German AKM variant on the roof with the folding stock, which is issued to tank crews in Finland. Sweden does not possess such weapons.

I did find this from Wikipedia, about AKM: "Finland: Holds stocks of imported AKM clones for wartime reserve service (the Chinese Type 56 known as the RK 56 TP and the East German MPi-KM as the RK 72)[56] along with locally designed AK derivatives (the Rk 62 and the Rk 95 TP)." So you are right, it's East German MPi-KM and I think some Leopard crews use it. I was one year in finnish army when I was doing my military service, but I didn't know about that before this. :D
I’m an infantryman and not a tanker but I would assume this is similar to our rocket battle drills. We have a cold position (where we prep the rocket and are in cover) and a hot position (where we are out of cover to fire the rocket). Smoke and light are big signatures so going back to the cold position after firing is wise.

Callsign-YukiMizuki if the target is hit the tc will annouce "Target, cease fire" and if it missed tc proly annouced "*how it missed high low etc*, relaze, fire and adjust" idk if he gives the command for the loader tho
The MG3 is essentially the MG53, MG71 and initially the MG42. They mainly changed the caliber from 7.92x57IS to 7.62x51NATO and reduced the cadence from 1500 down to 1200rpm. Also a few minor details were changed, like a break to keep the lid open, a AAA sight and a new kind of recoil amplifier (due to the smaller rounds). The barrel is now a polygon rifle, not lands and groves. There is a hitch to hook the belt in, so you don't need a 3rd hand reloading with an open lid. You can also load with the lid closed, using a belt with a load strip. The MG4 was a bad idea and was not fielded in large numbers. IMHO so is the MG5 which is supposed to replace the MG3. Same weight, but only 800rpm - what's the point? I do hope they will at least keep the MG3KWS in service.

Random question but how would the top mounted mg3 be used? It doesn't look like it's in a comfortable spot to fire from the hatch as the handle is so far back and there's no way to get any sort of sight alignment going. Is it really just there to spray and pray or is there some sort of way to get the gun further forward so that it can be used by whoever is in that hatch area (tank commander?)?

@@chuzic lmao great propaganda. Ukraine has lost so far 6 leo's beyond repair, and 2 that were captured if i aint mistaken. And Russia has used T-55 and T-62 in frontline service and as SPG's during this war. Sure there have been plenty of mobility or combat kills, but not that many which can be recovered and repaired, the big difference between Eastern and Western tank design is once Western ones are penetetrated or knocked out of action, they are quite likely to be recovered or repaired, unlike Eastern tanks which most often than not explode or cook off so that they cant be repaired.

ReachForTheSky That's because the MG3 is literally just an MG42, only in 7.62mm. I'm pretty sure that's the only difference.
The MG3 is essentially the MG53, MG71 and initially the MG42. They mainly changed the caliber from 7.92x57IS to 7.62x51NATO and reduced the cadence from 1500 down to 1200rpm. Also a few minor details were changed, like a break to keep the lid open, a AAA sight and a new kind of recoil amplifier (due to the smaller rounds). The barrel is now a polygon rifle, not lands and groves. There is a hitch to hook the belt in, so you don't need a 3rd hand reloading with an open lid. You can also load with the lid closed, using a belt with a load strip.
The MG4 was a bad idea and was not fielded in large numbers. IMHO so is the MG5 which is supposed to replace the MG3. Same weight, but only 800rpm - what's the point? I do hope they will at least keep the MG3KWS in service.
@Tearjerker Well the MG3 is accurate and the barrel can be quick changed in about 10 seconds, so it's kind of a toss up really.
I'm a former armored squadron commander trained on leopard. Unfortunately it was useless in Ukraine with incompetent crews

So badass,one of my co workers was driving a Abrams tank in Iraq when a better armoured T62 came around the corner and got off the first shot.he said it was loud and shook his tank,but the round bounced right off.when they returned fire,it went straight through and popped the turret right off.

Random question but how would the top mounted mg3 be used? It doesn't look like it's in a comfortable spot to fire from the hatch as the handle is so far back and there's no way to get any sort of sight alignment going. Is it really just there to spray and pray or is there some sort of way to get the gun further forward so that it can be used by whoever is in that hatch area (tank commander?)?

@@chuzic lmao great propaganda. Ukraine has lost so far 6 leo's beyond repair, and 2 that were captured if i aint mistaken. And Russia has used T-55 and T-62 in frontline service and as SPG's during this war. Sure there have been plenty of mobility or combat kills, but not that many which can be recovered and repaired, the big difference between Eastern and Western tank design is once Western ones are penetetrated or knocked out of action, they are quite likely to be recovered or repaired, unlike Eastern tanks which most often than not explode or cook off so that they cant be repaired.

@@kimmoj2570 That was OBVIOUSLY rehersed. The leo commander probably ran up and down the hill 10 times and dry fired until the barrel is always sighted on the target when popping.
