If anyone is wondering why Japan made an advanced mechanical pencil. After living there for 4 years. Mechanical pencils and writing utensils are really big there. Especially among high school and college students. There’s stores that are dedicated to school/office supplies with thousands of different pens and pencils.

You forgot the most important thing. The pipe slides into the body as you write, so pushing the button gets reduced to a minimum. If you want the latest Kuru Toga tech, you have to get the Kuru Toga Dive, which twists as fast as the advance but has an auto lead advancing mechanism with 5 speed/length settings.

I can’t believe this came out in 08, the year I graduated 🙈
I used only mechanical pencils of the highest quality of the time, and I was constantly rotating my hand in an effort to keep the pencil graphite retaining a sharper “edge” on one side, which I used to write with great clarity, whereas the “dull” side produced characters that one might mistake for elementary school handwriting.

Yeah as the other person said, buying the alpha gel versions might be a good investment for you. Depending on who you buy them from, the Uni Alpha Gel Shaker usually comes in three different grips that you can choose from (Soft, Medium, and Firm Grip), each to accommodate those who may need more finger support while writing with the Kuru Togas.

They made metal ones. They actually feel better in the hand to me than the advance. The most important thing about the advance is the sharp part of the tip now retracts.

I've been using a KuruToga pencil for a few years now for sketching up mechanical designs before implementing them in my CAD software. The consistent lines are super nice for fine work

I love mine for drawing because if you hold it down for a long time at an angle, it stops the turning and gives a cool gradually increasing line effect I like to use for shading

I think the reason describing fanfics with tropes works in a way describing books with tropes doesn’t is because fanfic assumes the reader already has familiarity with the characters and the canon plot. So a fanfic tagged as “one bed” gives the reader the only piece they are missing: what makes this story different from the original. Readers approaching a new book don’t already know who the characters are or what the plot is, so just describing with tropes leaves out a whole lot of relevant information

I liked the wear down to an angle on the regular mechanical pencils. It made it easier for me to write fancy using the edge, kinda like a fountain pen.

Even better one, Uni alpha-gel switch mechanical pencil - Kutoga with alpha gel rubber grip added. This one is the ultimate. This has fine alpha gel rubber and you can swith normal mechanical pencil mode and kurutoga mode. I prefer this and I use this (I also have those pencils but I adore this more)

I use a version of their pencils but I don’t remember which it is, haven’t seen that thing since highschool but it was honestly my best pencil I had ever had, it’s very nice for writing and art, but sometimes it’s too precise for a project and you have to downgrade to a wood pencil or charcoal, besides stuff like that it’s fantastic for sketching and consistent lines
