There is one comment that seems to come up many more times than other comments on this channel, and that is the idea that Tamil is the world's oldest language.
In this video, I strive to figure out just that: is Tamil the world's oldest language? Just how long has Tamil been spoken? Where did this idea come from? Whether you're on the side of hard evidence or spiritual beliefs and ancient mythology, this is a perplexing question that may not have an answer. Enjoy the ride!

@Rail Chaser Agreed. Both Tamil and malayalam came from Proto dravida (Sanskrit free).
But, i hope you know that tamil is the least sanskrit influenced in the Dravidian branch.
So, it is safe to say Tamil and Proto - Dravidian don't differ or evolved much.
I have much respect and love for malayalam. The casual words malayalis using are used by Tamil only in literature.

@Rail Chaser Even though, Sanskrit (Indo-European language) not survived with common public now,
Still, it was one of the powerful language of the world.
Agreed, Sanskrit is stronger and smarter than Tamil or Malayalam.
      Love - Tamil and Malayalam.
      Respect - Sanskrit.

@Reing Reing tamil is our language. We are indians. I feel sanskrit is older it was used in gita puranas vedas etc. And also on takshila and nalanda. Both belong to us. There is no competition between those two. Great accient languages. Tamil could be the oldest language in daily use

Tamil's first written literature is "Tholkappiyam" dates back to 300 BC. Tolkappiyam deals with the Tamil grammar, which itself shows that tamil is much older than 300 BC as to write a grammar book for a particular language, the language should have been flourished, patronised and nourished earlier. This doesn't mean that tamil is the oldest language in the world but Tamil is the oldest surviving classical language in the world.

Yes majority look at caste for marriage because i see that in marriage advertisements. Even sinhalas and Christians look at caste system. You have to understand tamil areas are under sinhala military/police rule ever since Britishers left (for a short period Tamil tigers ruled). Imagine all the TN police is Hindi police imported from north and they dont know any tamil. thats how Tamils are living in places like Jaffna. Sinhala police not going to beat you up after asking your caste. 😁 So tamil caste system has become a secondary issue. Nowdays even lowest caste people like "pariyar" go into Kovils. In the old days people used to look at caste and strictly enforce. I think there is 2 types of Karaiyar in Jaffna. one are fishermen and others came from Kerala? but im not sure. I think Prabakaran Father came from Kerala? but nobody is sure. I seen prabakarans "relative" a old lady lives in Kollam in Kerala named Janaki. She said her ancestors came from Tanjaoor.

This is not an apt premise to argue for Tamil's legacy. In fact it is downright incorrect and by employing it you have proved yourself incapable of arguing for the side you think you are behind.

I don't understand why this has to be controversial. He clearly says he's not sure if its the oldest language and he has clearly explained the reasons for him believing so. Why are we Tamils getting so emotional and hitting the dislike button without a moment of thought.
I am a proud Tamilan as well. But proving that our language is the oldest does nothing. Heck we have schools in our State that prohibit students speaking in Tamil. And I'm very sure 90% of the people who disliked this video would happily make their children study in those schools.
So, take a chill pill, make our language live, and stop the fruitless rants online.

    *FIRST TAMIL SANGAM* or (Talaiccankam):
Held at the city of Then-Madurai (south madurai - now under water) under the patronage of 89 Pandya kings, during this period. It has lasted for 4,440 years between 9600 BCE to 5200 BCE
Shiva or Sivan ("the red one" in Tamil) was the head of the First Sangam
549 poets were members of it including Shiva, Murugan, Kuperan. 16,149 authors attended the convocation. Its chief works were Perumparipadal, Mudukuruku, Mudunarai and Kalariyavirai. It used Siva grammar. There are no surviving works from this period.
Muranjiyur Mudinagar, a member of the first Tamil Sangam, was the king of the Nagas in Jaffna.
    *SECOND TAMIL SANGAM* or (Idaiccankam):
The second Sangam was convened in city of "Kapatapuram" headed by sage Agasthya . This Sangam lasted for 3700 years and had 59 members, with 3700 poets participating. There were 59 Pandiya kings starting from Vendercceliyan to Mudattirumaran were decedents and rulers of that period. This city was also submerged in sea. Ramayana and Arthashastra of Kautalya corroborates the existence of a city named Kavatapuram which went under sea. The grammar followed was Budapuranam, Agattiyam, Tholkappiyam, Mapuranam and Isai Nunukkam. The poems attributed to second academy are Kali, Kurugu, Vendali and Viyalamalai Ahaval.
    *THIRD TAMIL SANGAM* or (Kataiccankam)
The Third Sangam was held in the current city of Madurai and lasted for 1850 years. There were 49 Pandiya kings starting from Mudattirumaran (who came away from Kabadapuram to present Madurai) to Ukkirapperu valudi were descendants and rulers of that period. The academy had 49 members, and 449 poets are described as having participated in this Sangam. The grammars followed were Agattiyam and Tholkappiyam (still followed today in modern Tamil). The poems composed were Kurunthogai, Netunthogai, Kurunthogai Nanooru, Narrinai Nanooru, Purananooru, Aingurunooru, Padirrupaatu, Kali, Paripaadal, Kuttu, Vari, Sirrisai and Perisai.
And written form of Tamil language have existed even before the 1st sangam and spoken many thousand years before that.
Tamil language has evolved from primitive humans:
Just like the amazon forest tribes, even 50 years before, a traditional tamil women if she sits down on the ground, left foot should be kept near her private part and leg should be folded upright and only right leg should be stretched out or folded on the ground(but today that practice is gone)
Calling animals by the sound that it makes is off of primitive origin.
even today modern Tamil uses those words to call
crow - Ka Ka or Ka-gam
Parrot - Ki Ki or Ki-Li
Cuckoo - Ku Ku or Ku-yil
    Goat - Mae or Mae-sam
    Cow - MaA or MaA-du
    etc.,
Sea like Erithriyan sea (Red sea), through which the Tamil people went, who escaped the Great flood of Kumari Kandam and settled down in mecca , is of Tamil origin name
Erithriyan Sea - Eri (Burning) + thirai (Wavy) + Kadal (Sea)
Just because the evidence is not found, it doesn't mean it did not happen.
With the help of modern technology, evidence are all there to see in coming years.
    .
    WORLD WILL KNOW THE TRUTH

Tamil language is a very rich in vocabulary. It's a very sweet language too.
at the same time, it is a little difficult languge to learn newly for Non Thamilians. the reason is that every word has numerous synonyms. different area people use different words.

tambiran sezhiyan Actually the lemuria concept that the tamil fanatics adopted to suit their their "kumari kandam " needs have been discredited by the scientific community long ago. If you believe in plate tectonics and continental drift then you can't have this

    • @Viveera2024
      @Viveera2024 6 лет назад +3

tambiran sezhiyan By your logic, the middle Earth was real. Do you know this amazing literature that records the dwellings of elves and hobbits. There is a whole map of the middle Earth. It even fascinatingly records the language spoken by those people. You should totally believe everything that's written in those books. Its not just just one instance. The presence of elves and hobbits are recorded in so many books . Its believed they are in hiding now because they want to live in peace and protect their culture and gods mainly their lives from the orcs who are still on a hunt.

The ancient religion started around 11th century by Sufi leader, and is derived from Zoroastrianism (an ancient Persian faith founded by a philosopher), Hinduism, Christianity and Islam etc. The religion has adopted different elements from each. That paintings looks suspicious considering Ancient Tamils didn't dress up like that going by our sculptures and artifacts that are the evidence we can verify. And by the way there was the trade with middle East and rest of the world since ancient time. And considering peacocks were an exotic bird that was displayed as a sign of wealth by royalty and elite in their courts since Roman times or perhaps earlier. Its not really a strong argument.

Thanks for making the first step to research on Tamil Language, kudos to you man ;)
Indeed Tamil is the only language, that full fills the seven criteria to be the world's classical languages, among the 7000 languages in the world.
This is what the Tamil chair of Harvard university states about Tamil.
Tamil language has one of the oldest written traditions in all of Asia and boasts a rich body of literary work dating back 2,500 years. Tamil has been accorded with a prestigious recognition as one of the seven classic languages (Greek, Sanskrit, Latin, Hebrew, Persian, Tamil and Chinese), and it is one of the very few that has survived all the way through to the modern world since its beginning.
Currently, Tamil is the 20th most commonly-spoken language (by 80 million people) in the world, with vibrant literatures for over 2 thousand years. Literature represents the culture and tradition of a language or people, and it provides a kind of blueprint of human civilization.
Thus far the global reach of Tamil literature is so limited, and for its ancient and Classic standing, Tamil literature deserves to be critically looked from new and diverse perspectives and the resulting knowledge needs to be shared across other cultures for mutual benefits.
So the purpose of this chair is multifold. First, it is a matter of great prestige for Tamils to have our language taught at the world’s most prestigious university which attracts brilliant students from all over the world.
There is also a need for research in ancient classical Tamil literature. Harvard will produce Tamil scholars who will be trained in research methodologies.

You have done fantastic research about languages
can you able to make a video abt 3500BCE Sumerian and similarities between others?
because here we can see the word Sumerian in Tamil's root word (Ma-மா) Ma means - measures several things, for more information pls : ruclips.net/video/_BCwcIzsJVM/видео.html
In ancient tamil scriptures the word Meru used in many places Meru indicates higher, bigger mountain top etc
    ( pronounce mea as may)
Usually we can use similar words starts frm "Mea"மே (meale - top) (meall - better), (Meagam -clouds) (measai - desktop) (mearku - west) and so on and places in ancient (Ku- Meru - now Kumari)
(KashMeru - now Kashmir) like that can you pls elaborate Sumerian? With the root word of any other ancient language? We Tamils atleast hypothetically understand who Sumerian are ! Thank you.
