  • Taking a look at the history of Gandalfs sword Glamdring, Foe Hammer, The Greatest Sword in Middle Earth. I saw a video today by Adam Savage looking at Glamdring so had to dig out my sword from United Cutlery. I am currently working on building some terrain based around Middle Earth SBG, but it is quite an involved and complicated project so when I got home from the pub last night I decided to make a quick "Lore" video based around one of my favourite possessions!

At the age of like six, I really wanted to have the sword and any wooden sword I got around that time was basically this sword in my imagination. Whenever I come over to your house I still to this day think that it the coolest object in anyone's house. Strange to think that this sword is older than I am. Wicked sword, may have to think about adding it into my build for my product design GCSE. :)

Glamdring was a great sword but Narsil had a far greater lineage. They were both created during the First Age around the same time, Glamdring by the elves and Narsil by Telchar the dwarf, greatest weapons smith to ever live. Narsil was around 6,500 years old when Aragorn became King.

Just fyi I believe the name "Foe-hammer" translates directly to Glamdring in an elvish language - the orcs named the sword "Beater" (sorry to be that guy).
