Never again will movie's be made with the same amount of love and attention to detail
100% spot on.
Not true. Every movie is made with the same amount of love and detail.
However movie making is really hard, and seldom they turn out different from the original intent
Or movies.
I am so envious! Would love to visit one day! Chris is the best. I have to go polish my swords now.
@@MarkFilipAnthony grow a brain dude
Just two dudes hangin out and stroking their swords. Wholesome
Well, we dudes love stuff like that...
OG Lachlan: "Hey lets paints some minis and make some stupid big scenery!"
Lachlan today: "Look at my sexy as fuck floral shirt as I help clean and maintain the ACTUAL swords used in LOTR here at WETA Workshop"
I'll have you know it's maple leaves ;)
@@Zorpazorp Whatever the vegetation, I am very happy to see the channel come such a long way!
As a sword enthusiast myself this is absolutely amazing! Soooo jealous. I am loving the New Zealand content, it's so good! Can't wait to see what comes next.
I'm glad KW! It was such a joy to shoot, I cannot wait to get back
I met Christopher on the tour, he gave us a brief run down on how they make the swords and which actors used it.
What an incredible video!!! It felt like I was watching a brand new chapter of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition extras that I watched as a kid!!! Incredible work Lachie, this was a real treat!!!!
Hahahaha thanks Dana, it was utterly surreal being there, meeting all the folks I've been worshipping for 20 years. Wait till you see some of the next couple of WETA videos
Did you get a chance to visit any of the east coast beaches while you were over here, Lachie? Dana would love to see all that pale sand.
@@Zorpazorp I'm excited!!! Can't wait to see!!!
My latest video with Wētā is now live and this time I’m FORGING A REAL SWORD from LOTR! I’m really proud of it, but it’s so different from my normal videos it’s not getting shown to all the folks who want to see it, so I’m here spamming my own comments to try and reprogram the silly algorithm. It would mean the absolute world to me if you gave it a watch. Thank you so much
LotR love
This is the type of content we need more of! I could binge watch you talking to film industry makers and nerding out for hours. Awesome stuff man!
Good cause there's alot more on the way haha
As luck would have it, my engineering career was in full swing when Lord of the Rings was released, and I was in position to buy the limited run of swords produced by Peter Lyon himself. So while they aren’t exactly the actual hero-prop swords, they are the next nearest thing, and as a result I know quite nearly how you feel to stand in front of a wall on which Anduril, Glamdring, Strider’s ranger sword, and Sting are all hanging. No orcs here, baby!
Weta's work is so brilliant when compared to pure CGI. I would like to see more real sets being built and actors wearing costumes again.
Thanks for the video.
I wanted to thank you for sharing all this with us, the people who are unable to be able to see all this any other way.. so thank you for letting us join you on your new adventure. With that happy holidays to you and your family.
Thank you so much Christina, a happy holiday to you and yours too!
They will never make a movie like that again
I loved that moment when you heard "His sword that never made screen time" your brain immediately goes into breaking down that sentence with both curiosity and glee.
"Lets take that sentence a step back"
The temptation to duel would've overwhelmed me lol
I got into making because of the extras on the LOTR DVDs and it was my dream to work for Weta when I was younger, never mind that I was on the other side of the world!! I’ve worked as an arms and armour conservator and a mail maker, and Japanese metalworker (inlay and tsuba making), and honestly what Chris does every day is still my dream job. He’s living the absolute dream doing this. Thanks for sharing it!
I still maintain a dream of buying a replica of Theoden's sword some time. These movies have aged so gracefully since so much of the craftmanship was so real.
You can find very nice replicas of his sword along with the main characters swords for very reasonable prices online. I have Anduril and King Theodens sword and they are beautiful around the $200 range
Museum Replicas I believe is the website I went through, they have a section in the licensed products for all LOTR weaponry and things!
I remember having a Sauron action figure with the mace and the sword and wondering why he had that - makes so much sense now, thanks for clearing it up, Chris!
Wow, I wasn't expecting to see something like this. It was equal parts laidback and awesome.
wielkie, wielkie dzieki za film , jak sie to oglada zachodzi chec powrotu do sredniowiecza👍
Really so happy with the insane content this channel has been making lately! Visiting locations physically to paint there, tours of Weta workshop, and of course the most insane terrain and batreps I've seen in a long time. Really great stuff, living the dream!
Thank you mate :) :) lots more on the way!
Thank you for this Weta aventure behind the scenes! Loving this kind of videos!!!
That was so cool! This is something us viewers never really get to see so it was really cool to see the swords up close :)
Amazing, wow. What a dream come true. You have real talent in this interview, and the editing was great.
Absolutely AMAZING Lachie!!! I'll echo the other comments as to what a treat this was to watch. Really Impressive stuff man and big props to WETA for doing this with you man.
Ah thanks man
I gota say, I have huge respect to whoever decided to put gorgeous flowing floral etchings on Sauron's weapons and armour. Probably Peter Lyon. It's so something you wouldnt expect but it really gives it a regal, royal, sense of power and beauty.
Moar! This is fantastic content. The closeups of the swords and helmets are great!
Glad you like them!
Amazing! Thank you very much for this tour!
My only sad point is just that we didn't't saw Elrond's or Haldir's swords ;P
Oh my gosh I absolutely love this!! If it’s possible can you please do a video with the swords from Narnia??
Wow, look how far this channel has come. Well done, Lachie! And thanks so much for sharing with the rest of us nerds :)
I'm so jealous and happy for you dude, smashing out awesome content keep up the hard work.
Cheers Ricky!!!
Absolutely great content man, love these insights at Weta
Much appreciated!
I love it, at last we get some nice up close shots of Faramirs sword also. Most pictures I have found are of the replicas. But this is the first video I have seen of handling the sword.
Weta had some pictures on their website in the past that looked really close to this, maybe that was the real deal. Seems like the leather have turned brown over time, instead of the lovely green.
Such an amazing behind the scenes video and love your energy and enthusiasm! Thank you! 😀🤘
Glad you enjoyed!
amazing video guys !!!!!! thank you so much for making this!!!
I have no idea how you were able to contain your excitement and stay professional. I know I wouldn't be able to! Fricking awesome!
It was a tough balance hahaha
Brilliant. Keep up the amazing vids my guy
Thanks, will do!
I love how so much thought was put in to the design of every single prop and set element on the LOTR films. Nothing has come close to it in the past 20 years.
Seeing you being able to geek out with the Weta guy is truly amazing. I am rather jealous and would absolutely love to visit their workshops one day.
It's a magical place dude, truly magical. Hope you're doing well mate
This would be a literal dream of mine fulfilled. I've got a growing collection of United Cutlery replicas from the films, but the actual hero props themselves would be another world entirely to get to hold and examine. Glamdring is probably my favorite sword ever, so beautiful.
Keep living the dream mate and thanks for sharing it with us!
p.s. Was blown away seeing these magical "spring steel" artifacts! Just finished googling it, never would have guessed 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it mate :)
I cant remember if I was a sword and black Smith enthusiast before LotR, but I can point to Weta's work as what really hypercharged it. I remember having a computer class and we all signed up for yahoo email to get geocities space to learn HTML. My entire website was Swords with a section devoted to the LotR ones. I always wanted the United Cutlery Sword of the Witch King. Its always stuck with me. And then the mask and gauntlets in Return. Is amazing how incredibly impactful those visuals were on my creative output as a child. I loved the Nazguls lol.
6:19 "Weird little swoopie bits". Couldnt have said it better myself.
amazing youve been able to tour weta workshop like this in the last few videos; truley any hobbyists biggest dream !
Wow! What an awesome career that would be; I confess I'm envious. I've polished many a motorcycle crankcase to a mirror finish with Solvol Autosol, it's perfect for the job.
Yep, these are the blades that ultimately got me into swordfighting. Thanks for this really great video! :D
Glad you enjoyed!
Thats an impressive mace. Shame he didn't have the Sauron Sword to show you!
Amazing 👏 the work and detail that went into the making of the movies is incredible.
This is so good man! This. Is. Zorpazorp.
What a treat man, thank you so much!
Its still sharp, the blade that cut down sauron! You cannot deny the return of the king!
Lol the editing when choosing between boromir and faramir, amazing
I do recommend taking the Weta Cave tour, I think it was only about $25 and you get to handle some of the props.
That edit to stock footage of Faramir when you chose Boromir’s sword is *chefs kiss*.
Muahahahaha full credit to Beau he nailed that
12:45 That was a lowkey great line, lmao!
The Rohan swords at 9:03 are just beautiful
Nice to watch someone having a very good day!
Amazing! I wasn't expecting Sauron's "sword" 👌
Me neither Tiago!!!
It's hard to see someone else living your dreams :'( haha great video zorpazorp. Keen to see what else you got up to at Weta!
More to come!
great craft, great attention to detail, great dudes, great lore
You are living one of my many varied nerd dreams. So awesome
Ahhh what a lovely guy. Thanks for the video guys! What a joy!
As a fellow Aussie. I'm truly jealous.
Amazing video my dude \m/
This swordsmith is a gem
Making Zorp from just hobby into nerd-variety-hour is ace. I'm all for it.
Theoden King stands alone. (there is much meta going on here)
Amazing - what an awesome experience!!
I'm glad they took the time to sculp the worg wang in that first seconds of the video.
It's beyond clear that someone had a blast right there - and why wouldn't you? Props or not, there is quite a lot of artisan's skill that went into creating these - and it is nice to see them get the appreciation they deserve. Just one question.. what would you reckon Sauron's mace weighed when you held it? Even in aluminium I'd reckon somewhere in the ballpark of 15-20 kilograms?
Eaaaaaasy 20kg, it was beasty mate. Glad you enjoyed the video mate :)
@@Zorpazorp Yeah, it does look like a chunky bugger alright. And yes, i did enjoy it.
You're posting so many great videos in succession I can't keep up!
Ah thanks mate
I have a united cutlery glamdring hanging above my PC setup..most beautiful sword ever. Never gets old appreciating it. Details like these swords are just another reason why Peter Jackson is a legend
My bro chris made it to youtube! nice xD
1:04. Zorpazorp loves you, Faramir... you will remember it, before the end.
Waiting for the ZorpaZorp extended editions and those two juicy discs worth of appendices! :D
Omg, that Video is so fucking awesome. The real sword? Epic
Unexpectedly awesome youtube recommendation!
They have a game coming out (weta) I have high expectations. I look forward to it!
does it have a glass case to store and for protection? I was surprised to seeing it on a wall like a picture. EPIC!!!blades!
I do not say this lightly. But I think I honestly would have tears rolling down my face if I held those swords.
15:11 I'm a huge fan of Villains ( especially a massive fanboy for Sauron and the Witch King lol. Probably my favorite villains of all time are in LOTR and the Hobbit. Aka my favourite movies of all time ) I would've been screaming in major hype if I got to hold a model of Saurons mace like that lol it's such a gorgeous weapon. This whole vid was amazing getting to see stuff like this. Even though I doubt it'll happen, but Seeing New Zealand is at the top of my bucket list cause of these movies. My dream vacation is to get to see every major location spot they filmed for the movies , and see Weta workshop etc. That's my all time dream vacation if I ever get to do something like. I envy anyone that was able to do that lol
Zorpbae felt my grip and loved it 🥰
Awesome! Just awesome! Thanks fella
My pleasure!
Love this series 🙌🏻
I just loved everything about this video! :D
your smile all the time was so lovely. like a child on christmas eve. dude I would have looked like this every second as well :DD
this is soo cool! :D
Thank you Tom, it was a surreal experience!
Holy cow. Those swords look amazing. I only dream to own replicas of said swords. seeing these swords makes me want to p/u Battle of Pelennor Fields and Battle Osgiliath. LOL. Anyways, Awesome video!
Wasn't expecting the swords to bend that much.
Lord of the rings is what got me into swords and I tried blacksmithing one time and it didn’t take. But last year I started making knives and once that takes hold I’ll move on to my first sword
Christof is exactly what a swordsmith should look like.
each sword there got more detail and thought put into it than the entire RoP season....
Why is my heart pounding so fast ?
Came for the terrain making, stayed for the Zorpa'
When he asked about miniatures you could see the guy thinking about which 40k army he should talk about.
5:10 Did Legolas just shoot from the right side of the bow?
I love seeing people living their best life
In *_Reveling_* in all the excitement of the Look & Fabrication of these Iconic LOTR Blades/Swords: _it's easy to forget _*_what these Lethal Weapons can indeed do to the Human Body._* *
(* i.e. take it apart like a Butcher w/ a Bone Saw thjrough butter)
love the, it's "micro crystaline wax" and pulls out a tube of autosol hahaha
So very jealous mate! Fantastic video
Mate that would of been an amazing experience.. wow
It was mind blowing Robbie, just mental.
WETA is so damn cool! Thanks for this!
Super jealous of this! Could someone direct me to the Zorpazorp alternate channel just for war gaming?
I thought Viggo and the rest of the actors took the movie swords home with them?
What a video, Top content 👍🏻
Thank you 🙌
