    In the state of Alaska, it is required by law that each boat has a rockfish release device. It is also illegal to vent fish. This is no proper way to vent a fish.
    Study's have been done that show the survival rates are best when using a fish descender to bring the fish back to a minimum of 100 feet. or the depth the fish was caught at it it was less than 100 feet.
    Many people that fish deep ocean wrecks in warm water are still venting fish for the release and this is likely killing a large portion for fish unintentionally.
    I would strongly recommend that anglers who fish deeper than 80 feet of water learn to use a fish descender. There are many low-cost options available.
    For large 8 pound plus yelloweye and large groupers, the swim bladder is so large that it takes more than three pounds of weight to send the fish back to the bottom.
    The best tool on the market to use in a SeaQualizer device. This clips onto the mouth of the fish and releases at a depth of 100, 200, or 300 feet depending on the settings.
    When a fish is brought up from deep water it is suffering for barotrauma which basically means the gas in the swim bladder has expanded and the fish can not swim back to down. For fish brought up from over 150 feet, the swim bladder is often sticking out of its mouth and its eyeballs are bulging. Videos have shown that if the fish if brought back to depth the fish becomes normal again and survives.
    I hope this helps you release fish that are caught in deep water more safely for the fish.
    Thanks for watching,
    Captain Cody

      Well right now I am in Florida. I would like to spend so more time in Alaska, I defiantly miss being up there!

    Thanks. Im not a fisherman. And I live in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona and will probably never see a live rockfish.. but I saw a video on RUclips shorts about releasing a rockfish with a desending device- per new California law. I had never heard of it and was interested. Even though I will probably never be in a situation to need to know, I found it interesting, and enjoy learning new things, even if they are random. I liked that you gave good information while still keeping it "beginner friendly", so someone who has no ideal about any of it could still follow along and learn, as well as a more seasoned fisherman. Thanks!!

      Thanks for the positive feedback! Well even in Phoenix you are pretty close to the west coast! Lots of good fishing not to far away. If you fish in the pacific you will catch a rock fish! Almost guaranteed. It is good to know random things. To many professional fishermen do not even realize how important it is to use a release device. It is more work but saves the life of the fish when catching them in deep water.

    Fish and Wildlife Services needs to make this mandatory for all coastal states. i don't do much deep fishing but i am gonna have one in my fishing bag just in case.

      That is a great idea, way better to use a descender rather than a vent tool!

      I believe I saw a video that California now makes it required to keep on on your boat. Not sure about other states. But its a good start.

    Late comment but that looked like a boccaccio rock fish. They get big in northern CA past 50 fathom but tend to be wormy

    Great video. Does the Seaqualizer have options for the 30-100ft range? Edit: Just read on their website that it’s lowest setting it 60ft.

    • @CaptainCody7
      @CaptainCody7  2 года назад

      Yeah as far as I know the lowest setting is 50 feet so 60 feet will likely release their fish. That device has settings for 50 feet 100 feet and 150 feet. I did write an article on global fishing reports that show all the different types so fish descenders. It is linked in the video description. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    reeling them in slow doesnt help because they wont have time to adjust anyways.

    • @CaptainCody7
      @CaptainCody7  Год назад

      Yeah, I am not really sure the speed reeling the fish up matters either. The main thing is to use a descender to send them back down.

      Yeah that can happen. They are very useful for properly releasing fish though.

    Oh, is that how the notification bell works? Had no clue it would notify me when you upload being called a notification icon, but also it won't for any video, rather you must choose all after clicking said bell. So stupid

    • @CaptainCody7
      @CaptainCody7  Год назад

      Yeah, the options are all, personalized, or none. I am not sure exactly what happens if you click personalized. I guess youtube decides if you will want the notification.
