Awesome demonstration, Ed.
Thank you so much for this very easy to follow demonstration.
Awesome idea!
I'm out of Crescent City and have released some big yellow eye using that first rig, only with alot more weight.
need to show how to hook the Shelton device in the fish's mouth
looks like an awesome tool, we fish for stripers, deep in summer , bull shoals ,norfork, Beaver, hope this helps those fish, will post results
The best way to protect them is not catch them. I dont get the idea of using descending release device
So? I will take ten minute per fish to make sure they are released alive? Impractical and an a hassle. Who wants to spend ten minutes per fish? Seems to me that the fish was put under more strain waiting to be released.
So, your implying that it's better to poach or just let them go as floaters and feed the seagulls? To say that it takes 10 minutes is a ridiculous exaggeration. Less than a minute is more reasonable. For this episode, Ed was handling the fish by himself and trying to explain the system which slowed him down but still took no longer than a minute and all fish were released successfully. Fish & Wildlife recognizes the importance and value of these release devices and therefore includes their use in determining there models which directly effects whether or not we have open fisheries to utilize. That's why it's importance to report their use to creel checkers. Yes, there may be an inherent hassle to managing our resources but thankfully most people understand the importance from a socioeconomic and ethical point of view. Thanks for watching and please consider attending the Saltwater show in February.
these fish have sealed swim bladders. They won't get better over time and they will just float and die if released at the surface. the fish are at risk of overfishing so be responsible and release them properly.
takes about a minute to do, if you dont care about the future of these fish, please dont fish
