Lovely compilation. Such a shame Royal Ballet put Siegfried in black against a black background. William Bracewell is such a gorgeous dancer but practically invisible here
I don't understand why ANY designer of ballet costumes and sets dresses a dancer in a black or very dark costume knowing that the dancer (usually male) will be performing in front of a black or dark background and therefore will be difficult to see (except for disembodied head and hands). The same goes for any artistic director of a 'gala performance'. Indeed what is the artistic director of any company thinking when he/she is sitting down with a designer, choreographer and lighting director ... this is not rocket science, it is just good sense. Dark on dark and bad lighting means 'pretty much invisible', especially when being filmed. I have lost count of the times I have gritted my teeth and thought "well, he has a very nice face and nice hands, pity about the rest of him". (That's my polite wording ... I can't really write here what else I say!!)
The Mad Hatter has got to be Steven McRae's greatest, most idiosyncratic role. Only he could have performed it. And congratulations to Christopher Wheeldon for putting Steven and unique tap dancing together!
I absolutely adore him in this role. I wish the RB would put it on again, once Steven has recovered 🤞🏻🙏. Fabulous ballet. I love all these dancers. But very excited to see Natalia in don Quixote next month. ❤️❤️❤️
VADREAM, He is so moving in all his interpretations, fabulous in this small clip of 2 Pigeons which l saw ages ago. It is a show case of the varied repertoire of the ROH as well as the amazing principles dancing everything.
These excerpts, from familiar ballets, much loved, moves me to tears. The level of perfection in every aspect of these dancers' performances is simply exemplary. The Royal Ballet has accomplished a magnificent achievement. Thank you for bringing it it to all of us, so consistently, generously and predictably.
Thankyou so much for this. The Royal Ballet dancers are, for me, the best in the world. This company shows a wonderful balance between top class male and female dancers. The male dancers in this company also show finely tuned technique combined with musicality, expression of feeling and especially the awareness and use of their feet which is still rarely seen by male dancers in other companies. A joy to watch (and I especially love to watch the young dancers in the background and see how they move forward and upward in the company)
They are all fabulous! I’ve loved Marianela and Vadim for years. For me, I can see the potential for Marci and Anna Rose to follow in their footsteps. I really do think that the RB has so many wonderful dancers!!
So agree! He just doesn't dance he hdances with his whole body. Few male dancers do this. His Green Boy in Dancers at a gathering is my favourite pa de deus of all time. I am 80 and have seen a lifetime of pas de deux.
Hirano is incredible. I want to see him live. I love fumi too. And Marianela, and adore watching Natalia, she’s incredible. Steven, just wow. Gosh, I’m just in awe of each one of them.
The Royal Ballet's principals all show great energy and sensuality, even the other dancers, whether first soloists or retired principal dancers. Recently we saw a RB first solo female soloist and a retired principal dancer’s performance in Australia, which was really wonderful. Their performances are unique, pursuing the understanding and expression of emotions, and their dance skills are impeccable. One can often see them pursuing a new interpretation of ballet born in Russia using British aesthetics and traditional habits, which is very unique. The only suggestion is that black is one of their favorite colors. Sometimes it's difficult for viewers to distinguish between a black background and an actor wearing black, such as in the second segment of this video from "Swan Lake."
It hurts to see the great dancers who have passed, like Zenaida Yanovsky - I think she is helping other dancers learn her roles. But her Red Queen was inimitable!
I admire all of the gorgeous and extraordinary dancers' you portrayed in this beautiful compilation video ❤ ❤. Thank you to @ BalletReels for sharing 😊.
Without my glasses, I read “principal dangers of the Royal Ballet.” So I eagerly clicked on it to discover what these dangers were. You can imagine my disappointment… and relief. 😂
@@BalletReels At my age, I’ll gladly go without food for a week to enjoy a decent performance. They are so rare these days (ah… listen to the old biddy grumping.)
Thanks for this compilation. In m opinion The Royal Ballet has the most impressive roaster of principals in the world right now! I am a devoted fan and I don't miss any cinema streaming, live or replay. Talking about streaming, I see you have excerpts from Sleeping Beauty in May 2023, which I would so much love to see again but cannot find anywhere in internet... I wonder if you could direct me to the full video? I would really appreciate. Thanks.
It's always slightly sad when Ballet Day starts and he's hosting again. He caught my attention way back on National Ballet Day. He had such Presence in class,
thanks for your comment! i thought so too but wikipedia refers to him as a Mexican-Canadian dancer (being born in Mexico City). i wasn't sure what to put so i deferred to that!
@@BalletReels I understand. There's often also a stage/costume design problem with dark costumes against dark scenery and low lighting. Perhaps the fashion will pass...
Why isn’t Melissa Hamilton on this list yet? She’s marvellous and would round out this roster beautifully. She already dances lead roles and has a varied career too. I think this is a real oversight.
Best set of principals in the world, at the moment! May I ask you where did you find the Sleeping Beauty recording from 2023? If you can't write it here and leave you my email address and delete my comment later.
The Royal Ballet, in its story ballets, strikes a perfect balance between the extravagant romanticism of Vaganova and the Bolshoi - and is totally nothing like the stripped down, often leotard ballets of Balanchine and Robbins in New York City Ballet. Though Balanchine and Co. are using the same ballet vocabulary. I conclude each has its good points - but the Russian style is a bit too extravagant and the Balanchine is too minimal. The Royal Ballet strikes just the right balance of emotion and technique!
I was just thinking this yesterday, while watching the Bayerisch Staatsballet company class from World Ballet Day. Compared to the rest of them, Antonio is just in another class altogether, but RB probably wouldn’t take Fernandes at the time. Maybe when the next RB principal retires…fingers crossed.
Nice to see them all but most of the men were not shown dancing just sort of moving around. Didn‘t do justice to them. Would have preferred to see their solos. 🙂
@@JMA864 I was literally looking for a comment like this. I thought I was the only one who wasn't a fan of hers. She has tremendous technique but that's about it. IMO, her acting ability isn't quite there, her leaps in the iconic Kitri-variation solo of Don Quijote are objectively sub-par and in top of all she doesn't have the best ballerina body proportions. Looking at the rest of the Principals they all seem like they belong on the same league, but Mayara's real rank (all things considered, especially her acting abilities) is First Soloist tops.
@@SkylarLux Well stated. Totally agree-just not quite there, at least compared to current set of principals, but in fairness they may be an exceptional bunch right now.

yes a very dark broadcast :( hopefully it will be corrected for the swan lake broadcast this spring!
