I wish I would’ve known this before having getting my valve cover changed.. so I’m going to have to take off the valve cover again to get to these cam cap?
@@nbprotocol5406 You right.... More I look at this. Thinking he using a Cheap 7/16 or 11mm 12 point. Also.... The head of the bolt looks pretty much in tack.
No. Bad design. The fix is Right Stuff FIP gasket maker around the edge of the plug. Clean the surfaces first though. That stuff is rubbery and very flexible. Toyota should have used an o-ring around the plug. That FIP will stop it. I've done tons of these. Torque is not important on those 2 bolts. Just snug them down. They just hold the cap on is all. And don't unbolt any bolts on the back of the head like he did here. Just the two on the cap. This is the source of your leak. Not the valve cover gaskets themselves.
thanks for the video and thanks for showing when shit went wrong.

My same thoughts exactly going through it right now with my 3rd gen 4runner ..
Yes. The cap is what leaks. Crappy design.
Was that a 12 Point Socket? A good 6 point socket would still got that bolt loose.
The socket he used looked pretty sloppy.

What happened to removing the plugs in the front of the camshafts?
You can use an air ratchet, you just have to brake it loose 1st with a breaker bar.
The cam plugs are not in the valve cover kit.
That's where mine leaking.
Had to do mine twice.
Told the parts store...they need to add it to the kit.

Where did you get that extractor?
6 pt sockets are made to prevent this from happening.
