This oil cooler leak happens on various Toyota models, but it doesn't get talked about enough. I've literally only seen your video and one other video a guy did on a Sienna. Well done, sir.
Man, I've been trying to chase down this leak for YEARS! After seeing this video, I took off the driver wheel & a little cover and there was the only place I couldn't get to before. I scrubed it clean under the oil cooler, fired up the 4runner and watched as it started to drip. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably slightly hellish haha Might be able to reach it through the driver wheel well though Jack it up a bit, take the wheel off and take the cover off
Thank you sir for this excellent video. I had been convinced that I had to replace my rear main seal. A big job. But thanks to you I realized that it was just the oil cooler seals. You Rock!! The parts were super cheap and it only took like an hour. This video will save a lot of people a lot of trouble and expense. Seriously, thank you so much for posting this.
SWEET HEAVENS. It's funny, cause I was browsing to try and cross reference washer fluid pump part numbers and this came up?? I'm so glad the algorithm was dumb, because I've been trying to figure out this leak for 5 years now (same diag saying it's rear main). I did just do my oil change
I'm glad it helped! I'm guessing you'd loose enough that you'd basically need an oil change, maybe just wait for a couple thousand miles and do an early oil change

Thanks Aram! I'll be doing this on my birthday weekend; Earthday, April 22nd. I'll be 49yrs old. I've got a 99 4x4 SR5 manual. It's my favorite ride so far! I've got a 1992 VW GTI 16valve, & a 1986 Toyota AE86. These are the only rides I have left. Go anywhere! 🌄🏜🌌👍
you should check for clogs in the 2 hoses that attach to the back of oil cooler cuz they could be clogged seen it in another vid not good if they are clogged it will cause oil cooler to overheat and the same results will happen again. I believe this clogging in the radiator hoses that connect to this oil cooler is what causes the pink milkshake
I have a 1996 3.4v6 5-speed... Not sure why the dealer parts website says the o ring 22001 doesn't fit my car. Even though the name of the part says from 95-2020
Hey man thanks alot.... i cleaned up all my oil underneath and checked the next day and this is definitely where i am leaking a tad....mine has same drip on what you called rear main..
My GF has a 2001 4Runner with the 3.4L V6 and had a small leak that looked like the rear main seal or something nearby. We cleaned off everything under the engine really well and kept monitoring. At one point, it looked like the oil pan seal so had that replaced but that wasn't it so she bit the bullet and had the rear main seal replaced and krap, that wasn't it either. Months went by and she lived with it as the leak was very small. Fast forward a few months, it turned out it was the oil pan drain plug! Apparently the way the air flows under the car, the oil splashed everywhere other than where the drain plug is.
How would you go about doing this without taking the differential off? My only guess is through the wheel well somehow. It looks pretty much impossible to do with the diff on the truck.
I've never done it personally but I've heard a few people doing it with the diff in place. I imagine it's extremely tight in there. It's definitely better having the diff out, especially if you plan to do more work in there
@@aramschannel I just did this job with the diff and suspension in the truck. You have to pull off the splash panel in the drivers wheel well thats behind the UCA mount and go in in through the hole between the body and frame. Its a royal pain in the @%$ but its doable. Especially the clamp on the coolant hose going to the block. My O ring was missing entirely.
The 5vzfe toyota motor likes to leak oil from back and front of head at and just under the valve cover gasket their are half moon shaped metal plugs in the head. You have to pull them out with pliers clean and reglue them with toyota seal packing 103 (fipg) theirs also plastic circle cam plugs that gets replaced and reglued with same toyota sealer the top of the half moon plugs is part of the sealing surface the valve cover gasket sits on.Don't forget to pull and reglue these pluges when doing valve cover gaskets or your wasting yer time and money. Also use the gasket made in Japan I beleive the name starts with iso or something close .also put some sealer on the gasket in the area of these plugs
Anyone know while he was loosening the bolt & he got it free, it suddenly cut to the oil cooler being prayed off. There was a loose hose hanging, what is it & why was it disconnected? I know the oil cooler is being held by the coolant hose that's why it didn't fall off.
I dont remember exactly but I know for sure it wasn't related to the oil cooler. I had my front diff removed, I wanna say it had something to do with that. Next time I'm under the 4runner, I'll have a look and see if I can confirm
Did you have to drain your coolant?. I seen other videos that they do. On your video seems like you didn’t disconnect the 2 hoses that are connected. Is that the reason?. Thanks and your video has definitely helped me. 🙌🏾
@@aramschannel I have a leak on my 98 4Runner that drips off that transmission bell housing too, but I'm certain it's from valve cover gaskets. I felt around and on the passenger side of the valve cover where there's the half moon seals I got straight oil on my fingers. If this didn't fix yours I'd check valve cover gaskets cause they're super common to leak on these too.
Did the leak stop? I have a leak in the exact same spot. Honestly I did not know about the oil cooler. I'll need to see if it's the same on my 2.7I 3RZ-FE

I've been chasing down a few little leaks and the worst one is in the back of the engine drivers side so I bet this is part of not most of the problem
