Great video. Quick note on 10k oil changed interval with synthetic. Several reputable sources are strongly advising 5k oil changes even with synthetic, they speak of first hand experience with engine damage using the 10k interval after the 100k mark. "The car care nut" you tube channel has several videos about the "why", he is toyota master tech. Figured I'd mention this as you keep your vehicle long term. Love the vids!

Correct, 5k is best. Always cheaper to change your oil than rebuild/replace your engine.

Oil changed, rear diff fluid changed, engine air filter changed. Will do front diff too and might as well do transfer case. Radiator drain and refill coming up too! Woo! Transmission drain and fill is the only one I find slightly intimidating.

Great video and I was able to install a new PCV valve in about 20 minutes. I did have to buy a deep 19 mm socket to do the job. The total cost to me was less that $15.00. I also was able to change my spark plugs and I added the cleaning of the Throttle Body and the Sensor along with a new air filter. Thanks for teaching 4Runner owners how to take ownership in the health of our vehicles by doing some really important DYI projects.

It did! I just replaced the original PCV valve on my 2015 4Runner Limited w/ 64,000 miles with an identical OEM valve from the dealership (part number: 12204-31110). I followed your procedure but added a couple of steps: 1) Sprayed the old PCV with Free All as it was hard to loosen, 2) Torqued the new one to 20 Ft-Lbs per my search of the internet. The old one sounded almost as “free” as the new one, but at only $7.27, I replaced it anyway. Thanks Wanderlost Overland! 🤓

I installed the JLP oil catch can. It basically collects oil vapors before going back into the engine. Easy job and its good insurance. I changed my oil, Royal Purple 5W-30, 5k miles ago. Still looks fresh. It still change my oil and filter on all my vehicles at or around 6k miles.
Also invest in a oil filter magnet, made by Filter-Mag.

My wife’s Lexus came with “free” oil changes every 10,000 miles the first year. I took over the maintenance after that. After seeing how filthy the oil got after 10,000 miles, I reduced the frequency to about 7000 miles. By then it’s getting plenty dirty but nowhere near as bad as the 10,000 miles. I service the transmission and other items as well. The Lexus is a Toyota w more options. Great reliable vehicles, but I would never recommend waiting 10k to change oil!

I put a JLT oil separator on my 2020 Runner right after I bought in new in 2020. It catches all the oil and fuel blow by that comes out of the PVC system before it gets routed back into the intake for engine to burn. I don't believe you should force your engine to eat what it pukes out the PCV system. I empty the catch can about every 3k miles. Makes for a cleaner engine IMO.

Curious question I think you said you changed the oil every 10,000 on the 4runner and the Fj every 5,000 and the valve wasn't as dirty as the 4runner. I get conflicting advice some say you should change your oil every 5,000 10,000 on synthetic oil like my 2017 tundra but I started changing it every 5,000 the last couple of years what's your opinion. Thanks

Great video, but as you said should be able to be cleaned out. Yes that part might "only" be 15$. But that is not the "only" part that is "only" 15$ that should be maintained. add 10 parts that can be restored with some cleaning instead of buying new. Now we talking 150$ in parts if we going to use that logic. Obviously if the part is no longer functioning at all then it needs to be replaced. But I am overhauling a 1999 J90 Prado atm. And if I would use this logic I would have spent 170$ on just lug nuts if I bought new instead of cleaned the treads etc.
