- Ever since the Acolyte episode 3 disaster....the acolyte rotten tomatoes score for the audience recently dropped down to 16-17 percent setting a world record for lucasfilm as the worst performing star wars project under kathleen kennedy....one major development now has to do with leslye headland losing out on millions of dollars after the acolyte episode 3 disaster hit a new low for disney and bob iger with his position as the disney ceo. Already those like amandla stenberg and dave filoni are beginning to go into damage control over the series for disney plus due to the acolyte backlash getting even worse. It's true that the acolyte is officially hated by fans due to its lackluster writing and acting along with the disney agenda becoming beyond obvious at this point. I knew Leslie as a kid. She and her family moved in around the corner from me in Maryland, in the mid 80's. We were friends growing up until she accused me of saying things that I didn't say. I mean, for all the flack Jar Jar's actor got (and boy did he get a lot of flack), Jar Jar Binks existed t o fill the comedy relief gap for The Phantom Menace that was normally occupied by 3PO and R2. He had a reason to exist in the setting narrative-wise. The cast of the Acolyte... I'll be honest the only character who feels like he belongs and isn't human-shaped cardboard cut regurgitating dialogue to move the scene along is probably Sol/Lee Jung-Jae's character.
A good part of the issue here is this arthouse -Rashomon- non-linear storytelling the show has going on. While that might work for some settings, in Star Wars it doesn't really work well at all. Hell, even in the old EU this sort of 'multiple perspectives covering the same situation' storytelling style only really worked *in the novels,* and that was just for novels with certain themes (think heist, spy thriller, etc) written by veteran authors who knew how to write compelling characters/stories such as Timothy Zahn.
Disney is so out of touch that it's mind-boggling.

Cancelled my disney+ account yesterday. Watched maybe 15 mins of the last few series I was excited for in both Marvel and Star Wars. Will not be going back. A shame to see my loved series and comics come to this.

Didn’t Disney actually report a net loss for the first time ever a year or 2 ago? Do you realize how hard it is to lose money when your company legitimately owns half of all things the average person sees every day? It is literally next to impossible. Its disturbing that the Writers Guild in HollyWood was on strike for more money for 6 months of 2024 , and then we get this absolute BS writing in The Acolyte .These hacks ought to be getting pay CUTS, not feeling justified striking for more money , i have graded 10th grade creative writing papers that were better than The Acolytes Scripts.
Disney's first mistake was sweeping away the well established canon story line, relegating it to the so called "legend". From what I saw, there wasn't much complaining from the fans. I think people were just holding their breath and waiting to see what would happen. I saw this as a slap in the face to Lucas and his team, and all the writers involved in splaying out this cool, coherent, story-line. It's not like Disney didn't have an ENTIRE universe of possible stories they could create, instead this allowed them to rewrite the established story as they saw fit. Now they've hired a new generation who, as George RR Martin has said, they "make it their own". Fans are hungry for classic, traditional Star Wars story telling, some escapism from the world, not to be blasted with modern personal agendas told through poor script writing and directing.

I dont really understand what the deal is with them changing Star Wars to try and appeal to little girls? There were little girls who loved Star Wars before, but that wasnt good enough for them. All they do is turn off their fanbase and Star Wars has one of the biggest core fanbases out of any franchise ever. What was the need?
They didnt need to change a thing, Princess Leia was there in the first 3 most beloved Star Wars Films and was a "girl boss" before "girl boss" was even a thing. , and there is no way anyone can say she wasnt a primary lead character.And even after that Padme/Queen Amidala was right in the middle in a strong role.
If you think of all the D I Equity thing as less of a "Pro female" or "Pro non-white" and more of a "anti white male" thing, the pieces will fit in place quite easily.
It is also wise to remember that to them (and to their target audience) star wars is just a name, something they will enjoy while people are talking about it, but forget about it right after. You can't expect people who just consume and follow w/e trend they are told to follow to care about lore consistency or even the soul of a brand.
I just don't understand with Disney being a multi billion dollar for profit company, how could no one there have NOT done the math: When you make content geared towards a specific niche audience that does not represent your traditional audience demographic, you are not going to get the ratings you want. Being inclusive is fine, but when your entire content is focused on a tiny minority of the population that's a very small cash pool to pull from. Of course it's going to lose money. It's one thing to completely wreck a beloved series that's been popular for multiple generations, it's another to not be able to tell in advance that certain decisions are guaranteed ways to lose income.

A lot of people say it’s women, but I think women could do an amazing job with this, but just the right women and not just this who are looking to ‘correct’ starwars.
I’m also okay with female leads or protagonists, but the problem is that Disney is giving scriptwriting to directors.
Disney and the world has been blessed by a few standout writer/directors , but expecting that from most directors will create problems.
They should have simply contracted the best scriptwriters they could find, approved that . Then the best storyboard / concept artists. Then approved that, then hired directors to match these.
