My father would have been extremely thrilled to watch this! He had joined Air India when the airline had operated the DC-3s, the Vickers Vikings, the Connies and Super Connies. And when Air India had entered the jet age when it went in for the Boeing 707. He, along with some others, had been sent by the airline in 1959 for training in UK. You see, the earlier versions of the 707 had Rolls Royce engines

Air India the MAHARAJA, was one upon a time the best airline. In fact, the time it was the best airline was called the golden age of air India. All the businessman used to travel with air India only. AI introduced a very unique cabin and air hostess dress which any other airline cannot do even today. Fly the Maharajah! The best! Also it’s service was the best at that time, however, it’s the worst today.

Thank you for uploading. My dad worked for Air India and I have many fond memories of the 707s. I was not even a teenager then but followed everything about Air India in detail. In those days AI used to have a daily flight to New York. New York bound flights were odd numbered and returning flights from New York to Bombay were even numbered. AI 101 was on Monday, AI 103 on Tuesday and so on so this flight, AI 108 would be Bombay bound flight leaving New York on a Thursday. The flight landing in New York could not have been an even numbered flight. I believe the pilot in command was Captain Guzder. He was also the pilot of the very first Bombay London flight by Air India, using a Lockheed Constellation back in 1948.

This video made me nostalgic about my first trip on Air India. In 1982 I flew from Montreal to Delhi via London on Chandragupta Maurya. In those days Air India planes were named. 747-747-237Bs were named after emperors--Ashoka, Shahjehan, Rajendra Chola, Vikramaditya, Akbar, Chandragupta Maurya, Kanishka (bombed out by terrorists in 1984), Krishna Deva Raya, Samudra Gupta, Mahendra Varman, Harsha Vardhana, Shivaji & Narasimha Varman. 747-437Bs were named after temples--Konark , Tanjore, Khajuraho & Ajanta. 300B4s + A310-300s were named after rivers--Ganga, Godavari, Kavery, Yamuna ,Teesta, Saraswati, Beas, Gomati, Sabarmati, Narmada & Krishna. Each name was followed by a line--"Your palace in the sky." Indeed, elegant, sari-clad hostesses served the passangers royally. As Chandragupta neared Delhi, we heard the announcement in Hindi, which was soothing to the ear--१२०००km दूरिकी यात्रा समाप्त कर चन्द्रगुप्त अब देहली पहुँचा है. Since then, I have flown often on Air India; and I must confirm--its service still ranks among the best in the world.

It’s actually comforting to know that you’re relieved a little of having to rely on so many instruments when you have a good experienced controller talking you down. It’s called a PAR, Precision Approach Radar for a reason & existed for times when that’s perhaps all you may have to navigate down to the runway. I flew the military version of the 707 in the Air Force, the old KC-135 Tanker, which still flies to this day (with upgraded fan engines of course).😊✈️🛫🛬😊

Hi, I found their service to be excellent. Bear in mind that a few years earlier, a seat on a Boeing 707 was very expensive indeed and service had to be the equal of top restaurants. The coming of the Jumbos brought ticket prices down with a proliferation of bucket shops in London. I bought my ticket from schedair at Coram street, Russel square W1, I doubt if they're there today.
I see that with fewer people traveling on aircraft owing to the pandemic, airlines are going to have to step up to the plate as regards service.

+Jaden Desveaux It's just a matter of training. Just learning the phraseology and listening to it again and again. It has changed a bit over the decades, but the basics are still similar. Just go to LiveATC.com and start listening, and get the FAA or ICAO phraseology documents, they should be available online.
Probably around 90% of it is just standard phrases.
Typically (for visual flights rules) it goes something like this:
(Me:) "Delta-Echo-Hotel-Alpha-Bravo, at holding point Alpha, Runway 2-4, ready for departure"- (Tower:) "Delta-Alpha-Bravo, right turn approved, Runway 2-4, cleared for takeoff, wind 270 at 7 knots." - (me:) "Delta-Alpha-Bravo, right turn approved, Runway 2-4, cleared for takeoff."
