We have been doing an honor system for 26 years on the porch of our big building. Several years ago I had a person who would stop twice a week and steal money and produce. I bought a digital recorder and five cameras and had the guy prosecuted. Since then we have had almost no problems, we have a bulletin board we call the" wall of shame ", if we catch you ,we post photos of you on our bulletin board. This really works cause our customers don't want to see themselves up there. I've had some wall of shame people offer $50.00 to remove their photo but it stays up all season. Works better than giving video to the cops. We have seven permanent hoop houses with 900 tomatoes and 250 cukes and are building two more this fall. We grow 5 acres of sweet corn , 3 acres of pumpkins and melons and an acre of other veg . Our business has almost doubled this year and we run out of tomatoes almost every day. We attribute the big increase from facebook and covid 19. The same money box has has sitting un -fastened on the produce table for 26 years, 24 hours a day from May through November. We keep around $ 35.00 in coins and bills in the box and people make their own change. Seeing themselves live on camera from five angles really helps too. We get more tips than rips.

I love that they make from scratch the ice cream base with fruit. Soft ice cream machine costs a lot of money and the product is gelatin and sugar.

When you’re creative with ice cream, people are more open to try it. I’ve seen people freak out over “weird” veg varieties, but ice cream is approachable - they’re genius haha
We have a Mennonite farm in Redland, Florida (Knaus Berry Farm) that sells fruit and cinnamon rolls, but the people line up for the strawberry shakes/ice cream!

It has always infuriated me when urban workers look down their noses at farmers, as though they are simple folks who wouldn't be able to hack it in the city. The sheer breadth of knowledge and intelligence that one requires to run a farm, absolutely puts to shame that which is required to work in a cubicle as a "cog worker".
Why is anyone's air more valuable than someone else's? Sounds like you're the one looking down on other people’s work.
@@pristineparr7509 farmers and homesteaders are the only ones providing their own food. If you can’t make your own food someone feeds you. That makes you a domesticated animal. Literally.

Did anyone else start to cry with admiration for this couple and how there thriving together and how they care for their new way of life it warms my heart to see people returning to the land it’s the way god intended us to live I would love to visit

I’ve seen many instances on RUclips of people quitting their tech jobs to become farmers. It occurs to me than since the “new normal” now includes ubiquitous WiFi and the huge increase in telecommuting, that process can now be gradual. For awhile you can more easily “keep your day job” while you build up your farm. Also, since remote tech jobs are 7/24, your “day job” could be in the evening.
I certainly plan to keep on programming stuff while becoming a farmer :)

That's awesome, we drilled a well on some property 1 month before closing... major risk but we did not want to wait 12 weeks after closing the get a well drilled... we did the closing today..13 ac to enjoy and grow food.
I almost cried when he talked about taking responsibility for taking the life of his animals. We have relocated to West Africa from the US and have begun to kill our own animals or purchase from a farm that does it decently. The taste is even different, light years better. This family is getting it. Keep up the great work.

In the middle of the video I realized how much I appreciate colors in your videos. Greens are super saturated but not like burning your eyes :) so color correction and color grading is on point. Great work!

I truely agree with taking the responsibility for your meat. We have cows and chickens and only eat our home raised animals. I just carved up my first chicken last week and made chicken noodle soup with our veggies and my husband and I both noticed our bodies feeling so healthy. Its really is a game changer and pays you back tenfold. This Farm is wonderful and such an inspiration!

Richard Perkins says the same thing about chickens followed by cattle for greatly improving his pasture land. He was just saying that the pastures now have so many worms that the soil is loaded with worm casting and despite not getting rain, the soil is moist.
This just gave me an ah-ha moment. We just bought 5 acres in a high wine tourism location. The property came with 75 Peach trees, nothing else. Its a bonus fruit as our primary plan is berries. This years non-pesticide program worked good but a freak May frost knocked out 80% of the blossoms. Still we had more peaches than we could possibly give away to friends and family. Then we made Peach Gelato for the first time ever -- WOW is this good! The next batch we added the neighboring winery's Peach & Honey wine WOAH! how do we sell this? wait, what if all 75 trees produce Peaches next year? (correct answer: Sunday soft serve Peach Gelato + Sorbet, by the roadside!). Note, milk products in Gelato tends to dampen the fruit flavor. The Sorbet was a Peach explosion! Great for non dairy customers!
Looks like you stumbled upon a goldmine, I even got a company name for it, All Peachy! Peach sorbet, peach and berry smoothies, peach cobbler, canned peaches, go for it!

We have farms in New Hampshire that have homemade ice cream and a petting section. Another apple orchard makes the most gorgeous pies! Its a great idea for the entire family to enjoy. We are a bit envious of their growing zone, as Central N.H. is 4B. Not sure where Hillsborough, NC is located, but one of my favorite authors is Jan Karon from Blowing Rock, NC. I would love some raspberry swirl ice cream :-)
