Great list George. It's nice to see you give recognition to Rory Gallagher, I feel he's really under appreciated. Maybe I missed it in your honorable mentions but I'd also add Ted Nugent & Michael Schenker. Ted wrote some of the best riffs ever (Stranglehold, Dog Eat Dog, Cat Scratch Fever, Fred Bear, Great White Buffalo, Wang Dang Sweet Poontang etc)
Hey George I enjoy this blog. Mine is a bit predictable Guitarist & Showcase song 1. Jimi Hendrix Johnny Be Goode live at Berkeley 2. Jimmy Page Stairway to Heaven live SRTSame 3. Michael Schenker Rock Bottom live Strangers in the Night 4. Ritchie Blackmore Catch the Rainbow live On Stage 5. Randy Rhodes Diary of a Madman 6. Dave Murray 7. Adrian Smith 8. Vivian Campbell 9. Tony Iommi 10. Brian Tatlor Sucking My Love live Diamond Head. Rock on G
Great list! Some of my personal favourite guitarists; Victor Griffin (Pentagram) Matt Pike (Sleep and High on Fire) Rick Wartell (Trouble) Mark Reale (Riot) RIP Piggy (Voivod) RIP Dave Carlo (Razor) Buzz Osbourne (Melvins) Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains) Terrence Hobbs (Suffocation) Jeremy Wagner (Broken Hope) Gary Moore Michael Schenker And of course Tony Iommi
Those are some awesome guitarists indeed. Great album picks too. My two favorite guitarists are Adrian Smith and Angus Young, but - man - there are so many guitarists out there that I think are awesome.
One of my favorites and most underrated is James Murphy. One of the first to bring melodic soloing to Death Metal and I love his work on the Testament / Low album. The Low album helped make up for the disappointment of Metallica / Load. 😁🌿🔥
That is a great choice! James Murphy is amazing on Low and Obituary cause of Death! I have one of his solo albums just incredible! Thanks for watching!
So many great ones...sooooo many more opinons, which is great. I'll love to learn about artists I may have overlooked. For me, I'm just throwing Criss Oliva into the ring. He certainly would not be out of place with the greats you mention, in my opinon.
Great idea George, there are so many to choose from but here are a few of mine… Zakk Wylde, his first 2 Ozzy albums are amazing! Andy LaRoque… maybe one of the most under appreciated guitarist ever. Glenn Tipton and KK Downing Mattias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker… you could do a video on your favorite guitar duos! James Hetfield because…duh! Ace Frehley, he will always be my favorite. He was the guy that really made me want to play guitar.🤘
Hi George!!! cool idea for a video and guitar players too.... I think we agree on a couple of your choices and it was nice to see some "underrated" axe-man like Mick Mars or Leslie West a guy i'm not familiar at all and the usual suspects too. Here are a couple of mine, in no particular order: Adrian Smith; George Lynch; Warren Di Martini; Gilmour; Angus Young; Wolf Hoffmann..... cheers and be well
A few favorites here : Mark Farner, Toni Iomi, Mark Shelton, Daemonskald of Sig:Ar:Tyr and Dave Mustaine...just so many great guitarists 🍻 ❤ Cool video George, saw Mick Mars live once in SLC and the Crue played for 3 hours and Scorpions played 3 hours and it was absolutely incredible! Mick Mars had my respect since and still to this day, cheers 🍻
Great video George! As a guitarist, my favourite guitarists overlap with some of my best guitarists list. There is a difference I agree. But also my favourite guitarists are those who have influenced me the most, in terms of songwriting and solo style. Some of my favourite guitarists include Joe Satriani, Alex Skolnick, Randy Rhoads, Gary Moore, Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, Dimebag Darrell, Marty Friedman and Jimi Hendrix. Great list of guitarists yourself George, Jeff Waters, Mustaine, Blackmore, Iommi, Steve Vai, Jimmy Page and Van Halen, all incredible influential players in their own right! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
